Pierce Wants to Finish Career in Europe

Friday, August 20, 2010

Paul Pierce told CSN New England that he wants to finish his playing career in Europe once his NBA days are done.

Pierce signed a deal this summer to play three more years as a Celtic, with an option for a fourth. That means he would be age 36 or 37 when he went to play in Greece or Italy.

"As far as retiring from the NBA, I think I will be done after this contract because eventually I want to go overseas and play and live for a couple of years. That's why this is a big contract for me, knowing I'm going to retire a Boston Celtic. I want to go to either Italy or Greece for a year. I think I want to be able to bring my family over to just kind of share a different experience overseas for a couple of years, before I settle into retirement."

Better than him riding the pine as a Celtic.

Good luck where ever he goes.

I think he can now if he wanted to. Wasnt he actually born there when his father was playing?

Can Kobe play for Italian national team?

I don't think so.

Aren't players only allowed to play for 1 national team in their careers?

I thought that's how it was, seeing as he's laced em' up for team U.S.A, I don't think he would be eligible for Italy's national team.

I may be wrong.

Kobe has played for Team USA so he cannot play for them..

I mean it's not a small detail or anything

Hellcrooner

you can only play with one national team.
if you pkay with one in a yout category like U21 or U 17 you can still change your decision and play for a different MAIN team.

But once you have played ONE minute wiht the first national team you have to stick to that.

If i had been any good i would ahve had to choose between Spain and Venezuela to play with, for exampe.

^^ Yup, only one team. It came up with Timmy D playing for the US. Has also come up recently here (New Zealand) because there was some hopeful speculation Kendrick Perkins might be eligible for us through his dad - but I'm pretty sure he wasn't keen, and didn't want to give up on playing for the US one day.

I have a hard time believing that he'll actually do it -- but we'll see in four years.

It is kind of early for PP to talk about this. i dont think he intends going to europe purely for $$$...i heard he's interested in working as a GM after retirement...so maybe he just wants to experience/learn the way they do team business here in europe ?!?! we'll see what happens...i hope his focus for now is on working for that banner #18 !

There u go. Your all time sexual fantasy would come true.

Seriously I can see Kobe is Spain. I can also see Kobe in Italy, because his dad played there and Kobe spent time there as a kid.

As for Pierce, some european team i'm sure will give him a nice payday for a year or two of service.

***Its also noteworthy that if you watch or read this full interview, Pierce mentions going to Europe in "3 or 4 years". He may retire from the NBA with a year left on his current deal

He has always expressed interest in play for milano where his dad played when he was growing up.

And he also has visited Barcelona many times, he likes the team of soccer ( wich also owns the basket team)

He sees to be meshing up well with Pau , he in fact visited him in barcelona in the summer before Pau was a laker ( mmmm in fact he and BUSS met there in arcelona tha tsummer, were they already cooking the trada?)

THey expire their lakers contract the same year , pau will be 34 and kobe 36 -

Pau has expressed his interest in retiring in Barcelona.

So , more than a wet dream it looks like a likely posibility that Pau concinces Kobe to go play togheter in barcelona.

This demographic never ceases to surprise me anymore. They continue to jockey for media time with ignorant press releases and one liners. They're all in competition with eachother for what, to look stupid and ignorant? Murders, murder cover ups, putting a GPS on the wife's car, pot in the car, purple drink, reality love shows, shooting up the club, shooting yourself in the leg, making it rain, getting beat down in Vegas, run-ins with the law, 7 kids w/ 6 women, hold outs, forced trades, choking coaches, getting popped with prostitutes, DUI, speeding, speeding with a guitar case full of guns, ****ing Lebron's mom, "Love Boat", cocaine, etc..... Why can't they just play golf or go fishing?
