View Full Version : #6 SG in the NBA? (Volume 3 Edition)

Hey guys, Some of you may remember that for the last two years I have conducted a poll at the end of the season that had PSD users vote for the top 10 players at each position. Its is now that time to vote! I would like to start this up once more considering the NBA season is now over and we can get to this discussion since lots has changed since the start of last season. Please TRY AND VOTE FOR THE BEST PLAYER AND DON'T BE A HOMER. I will leave the poll open for one day and than we can carry on to the next best player at that position. I will add more players after each round. I have also included the results of those last 2 years so everyone can see how much things have changed...Enjoy.

REMEMBER this is based on who is the best player, not the player who has the potential to be the best.

SG Rankings DONT FORGET TO VOTE!!

1) Kobe Bryant
2) Dwyane Wade
3) Brandon Roy
4) Joe Johnson
5) Manu Ginobili

Stephen Jackson for me. He's been a 20-4-4 guy for a few years now. He defends well, has good size for his position, brings toughness to the game and is the remaining SG I'd want on my team if I were going into the playoffs today. He is also versatile and can play bigger if needed.

Ellis had great PPG last season, but with the way he dominates the ball on such a poor team, I don't think those stats would translate on a winning team. I love Ellis' speed and ability to get to the rim (his shot has also improved), but Jackson contributes more in other areas.

I find it interesting that I also defended my position on Jackson comparing him to Ellis as Ellis has the lead in votes, but to be honest I think it really should come down to Allen or Jackson. I watched Monta play a lot last year, and while I was impressed with his speed and finishing ability, I really questioned his decision making and trusting his teammates.

Ray Ray's efficiency is just off the charts. I thought he was "done" after we beat the in 09...I was so wrong.

Monta is just a product of being on a bad team that just loves to run and gun. Ray actually performs well on a good team doing things that help his team WIN. Anyone can put up Monta's numbers if they are given his spot...not many can do what Ray Ray does.

Monta is more efficient without the Ball actually. He was not at all efficient this year. His most efficient year came when he played off the ball back with Baron, S-Jax etc in the we believe run.

I went with Ray, and theres still a few on that list I'd chose before Monta.

I hear what you are saying but you are also discrediting the man and acting as if he's nothing more than what you state. He is immensely talented and extremely versatile, if he gets his act (head) together he'd easily become a top 5 SG in the NBA. Its not just because of the system and the position he's in that he's able perform at such a high level. Until he realizes however that he's not as good as he think and ups his bball IQ he's remain an extremely talented player who no one respects and never wins.

Anyone who says Monta puts up big #'s doesnt know much about #'s. Its no surprise Monta is winning, Im just glad the only players hes going to pass up are guys who are in his tier anyways. Thank you PSD for atleast recognizing Manu's worth. Even though I think hes rated too low, it would be a damn travesty to put him below Monta. Seriously though Monta should be after Ray and Jacko.

One question to all the Monta supporters, how is he ahead of the guy who, when they played together, was the main guy who also put up hollow per game averages.

All of this Monta hate just goes to show he should keep his mouth shut. If he never said he was the second best player in the league people would look at his actual game instead of automatically saying he is overrated. I also don't blame everyone for not being completely knowledgable about what he did last year. Warriors are never on TV and I'm guessing most people saw him play 5-6 times all last year.

Monta played on a team full of injuries and had to do things on the court which he shouldn't have to do. It wasn't until Curry and him built up their chemistry at the end of the season where we saw the real Monta play. The Monta that played together with Baron who played off the ball and wasn't a "chucker". Go look at his PER or whatever advanced stat you want from his last season with Baron and you will see what I am talking about. This poll means nothing and I could really care less where Monta gets voted in. I guess all of the "overrated" comments just rubbed me the wrong way.

All that said, I agree with the voting on the PG poll and SG poll so far. If you all think Ray is better then Monta then I can accept it.

i second this. monta is soooo overrated and id rather have a pure shooter any day because you know what your getting every game. a person who can hit the open shot and hes not a bad defender. like reggie miller imo was a top 10 sg until retirement and i really think ray is wayyy more of a valuable asset then monta.

Ray Allen is only one vote behind Monta after my vote, 53-52. This one is going to be close. I went with Ray because he did very well in the playoffs, especially the finals and that should count for something. If its this close near the end of the poll, you should hold a poll for #5 again with only Monta and Ray eligible to recieve votes. 53-52 is too close to call and this is still an important spot.

Edit: Damn, well nevermind I guess. Just during the time it took me to write that message, Monta got 5 more votes.

To be honest, I'd take just about every player listed in this poll over Monta Ellis.

His stats are inflated, he's a turnover machine, he's undersized, he's a crappy passer, he doesn't rebound at all, he can't play defense, and he's benefited from a fast break offense that hasn't exposed his obvious flaws (too badly). He's a one-trick-pony on offense, and shoots TERRIBLE percentages from 3pt range.

His eFG% is 46%, while Ray Allen is at 55%, Carter is at 49%, Mayo is at 51%, and Martin is at 50%.

Great, he scores a lot. Anyone can score a lot when they take 22 shots per game like Monta did last season.

I think Monta Ellis is getting more votes because Kobe fans dislike Ray Allen.

Nobody in their right mind would take Ellis over Allen or Jackson on a contender. I voted Jackson, he is underrated.

i feel you but you should have voted ray just so monta didnt win thats what i did. everyone is voting for him and idk why. THEY ARENT EVEN GIVING REASONS!!!!!!

Everyone vote Ray Allen even if you think Jax is better.

Monta as #6 SG proves how badly this site could use a stats forum.

i voted for monta and i meant to vote for ray! NOOOOO  @ myself

monta scores a lot but he is also one of the most inefficient players in the league. ill take ray ray, and possibly s jax over him

and if monta wins this by one vote then im just gonna deactivate my account lol

WTF is up with all the Monta hate? lol. I mean, yea he turned it over way too much, and didn't shoot a great percentage, but come on.

Let me explain Monta to all of you havent watched him that much.

He is lightning quick, he was a leader in points in the paint for all guards for most of the season (till he was injured), he has an improving 3-pt jumper, deadly pull-up midrange J (automatic in 07, but almost back to form by the end of this season), ok passer.

VERY good defender on national TV or vs good opponents. EX: Forcing Kobe to 10 turnovers on national TV, stripping JJ twice to seal the game on national tv, shutting down Roy, Durant and Granger. He loves playing D on opposing stars, but will let scrubs explode on him.

I dont care what stats you show to me, Monta is better than Jackson. I watched Monta his whole career and Jackson during his best years and i can honestly say i would always choose monta over jackson

My vote went to Jackson. He did a great job last year with Bobcats.

crawford is really good but hes a 6th man. common now there is no way i would take a bench player over ray

yeea, he comes off the bench and plays 40 minutes.

Perfect example of why there is so much mis-information in this forum.

"I don't care about the stats, i KNOW player A is better than player B, and that's all that matters!"

edit, monta deserves his spot but id say sjax right after. no way manu is better than monta do you people even watch basketball or get your ratings off some video game then rank who you think is better???

It's a sad, sad day for this forum when Monta Ellis is considered the 6th best sg in the league. :sigh:
