Shaquille O’Neal, who does not have a contract yet, said he thought he would play in the N.B.A. next season but would retire if a contending team did not make him an offer. Playing internationally is not an option, he said. O’Neal, 38, played last season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and ESPN and The Associated Press said the Boston Celtics were negotiating with him.

A legend either way.

I say he retires.

Writes a book titled Cleveland Sucks about his last season in the league playing with Lebron James and the Cavaliers. Tell All.

We line up for the midnight release

He profits!

Celtics made an offer I think so I don't think he'll retire yet.

This is at least a day old news. The fact that the Celtics will be signing him according to today's reports, negates his retirement thoughts.

He shouldn't get either. Come on Shaq, hang em up. You used to be great. This is just sad.

I never once thought I would be reminded of Oliver Miller when watching the great Shaquille O'Neal, but sadly that's what it has come to.

OT: He was good enough. He was let go because he was hired as an Assistant Coach by the Raptors and Basketball Canada wouldn't allow him to have "other interests". Seriously, when "other interests" are coaching in the NBA I think just about everyone would prefer that job. Including Coach K for that matter.

Back to Shaq ...

I much rather read about Jay Triano than talk about Shaq. Shaq's years are numbered. But onto another question: Who will retire Shaq's jersey? So many bitter relationships.

I think he should. It is sad to see someone who was so dominant as a shell of his former self. Specially with his age, he will just get slower.
