Stern knows X-Mas games are the big rating drawers, he made us watch Lebron vs Kobe last year, he'd be a fool to pass up Wade/Bosh/Lebron vs Kobe this year.

God, I love being right because then I can say "I told you so"

So everybody needs to their b***hing and complaining now.

Yes...

Or it could be there needs to be a double header. One game in the morning on the east coast and then a second game on the West Coast.

Lakers are the preeminent team out WEST SO logically whenever the league can the Lakers will be at home. It also doesnt hurt ratings to continually pan to the sunshine and beach shots in December when most of the country is freezing balls off

the lakers are a great team but they are really kind of boring to watch when kobe isnt going off, especially at home.

It is mostly because their arena actually focuses on the game and not what is in the stands, but thaat kind of makes it a little dull on TV. It isnt overly loud, too.

The games are always exciting to me because I'm a laker fans, but they do have the worst crowd in the league..Everything there thinks they're too cool to cheer except for the people further up... Sometimes it seems like the Laker fans at the road games are louder than the ones at home...

I can't believe people are honestly complaining about the Heat playing @ LA...the Lakers are the champs why would they play on the road?? Like someone else said a big part of it is also them being on the west coast...which helps when they have the triple headers....

GoatMilk
08-03-2010, 04:30 PM
what if it's the new NBA tradition?

in MLB, the Cincinnati Reds open up the season at home, always. no matter what.

not to mention the Lakers are the freaking champs. who cares

and it's just the way things work
you guys complain about everything

honestly, it's 1 game out of 82
i've even heard players say they'd rather have Christmas off. having to play at home on Christmas is probably tougher. Got to get up and go straight to the Arena. game starts at 12 on the West coast.
cant spend the morning with family, the night before you were probably really busy doing holiday stuff, etc

You guys finished 15th last year and finishing ahead of ATL, PHX and Houston isn't fair to brag about since MIA's arena holds more people then all three teams arenas, but PHX and ORL had a higher percentage of selling out crowds then MIA plus ATL fanbase is nearly non-existent.

For real like someone said, nobody in MIA paid attention to the Heat unless they had "El" in front of their jerseys. You guys sold out season tickets after Lebron signed.

But beat teams like Chicago, NY, LA, Boston and Dallas in attendence then come brag about.

absolutely agree. i dont know what 95% of you people get so hyped about. there's NOTHING SPECIAL!!!
the only reason they schedule these games on that day is because of TV ratings and $$$.
this is the point where the NBA is not a competition anymore as it is becoming pure entertainment for the whole nation with these blockbuster games on schedule.
i can only imagine players want to spend these couple of days with their families and spend some nights with the hot wife who absolutely appreciates the new luxury car + diamond jewellry she got as a gift.... christmas is the time where players are distracted, they shouldnt be playing games.
the best games happen during the season anyways....

Miami opens on the road @ BOS. Plays X-mas @ LAL.

NBA likes the HEAT going on the road. I don't blame them. The hate is going to be delicious.

Or they did it because the Heat aren't proven yet so they got to pay they're dues.
Once they prove something they will end up @ home for games like this.

Honestly, I don't like the Christmas game... I don't think teams play to their full potential during the holidays. I dunno, thats just my opinion, kinda wish no teams would play on Christmas, cause most players just want to be with their families.

Boring. I love watching games on holidays. Don't feel bad for them, they're millionaires. The off-season is like a holiday every day for them and their families

in those 2 championships did they have to face a team that had the talent and skill of a wade/bosh/lebron?........ Thats what i'm talking about funny guy.

I have to disagree with you there. Brickell and Aventura are nice as well and a little north of Miami you have Weston, South West Ranches, Boca, Coral Springs, Parkland which are all very nice areas. Miami is not by any means a poor city.

Almost none of the places you mentioned are actually Miami dude. Some of them are almost two hours north of Miami. Nice areas tho, yes.

It'll be "just another game" for the Lakers if they lose..

But if they win, it will be like the Lakers just won the championship.

Happens all the time, vice versa as well.

I really hate comments like this. You know for a fact this game will be playoff atmosphere and every game matters in the regular season, escpecially when you are playing a team fighting with you for HCA in the finals. Lakers know how important HCA is and thats why it wont just be "another game". Same goes or the Celtics fans that always say they bomb the regular season to save energy for the playoffs; we know that isn't the case. Every team wants HCA advantage and thats why games like this are the most important.

christmas games suck!
the players aren't focused.
they have other things in mind, family, kids, the hot wife has some new dessous, etc.
Laker fans will start throwing foam on the court again..watch out!!

Tell that to Cleveland which had homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs the last two years. Orlando beat the Lakers both times they played them the year they lost to them in the finals. Titles are won in June not in December

Yeah but he is right about one game, in a long series the depth of a team usually will be a huge factor in a series, no doubt Lakers would have the edge there. It should be a good game, hopefully both teams are at full strenght.

For championship teams it doesn't matter where you play, away or home, sure at home would be better but for proven teams it's really not a problem to have to win on the road as it has been proven time after time.

What I'm trying to say is that the guys don't care if they lose during Christmas especially since the Lakers are back to back champions. A loss in the regular season doesn't mean much to championship contending teams as long as they're not losing in June. If the Lakers lose on Christmas, they have to get back to work since their will be another game in a couple days.

Same can be said about Miami, I really doubt they'll act as if their season is over if they lose on Christmas.

There is no telling what Cleveland would have done had they gotten to the finals. Especially since they would have controlled HCA and did sweep L.A during the season.

lakers became the favs to come out of the west in the middle of the 07-08 season and what happened there?

lakers were favs coming into the 99-00 season, same with 01, not sure about 02. they were favs to come out in 04.

what was the outcome? they all have the same answer.

Well there you go.

As Laker fans, we know this game really means nothing in the long run considering we've experience 2 championships the past 2 years.

Yes, I'm sure every Laker fan wants the Lakers to beat the Heat during Christmas, heck as fans we want our teams to go undefeated.. But we can stomach a loss.

2 seasons ago the Magic swept the Lakers in the regular season but ended up beating them in the postseason.

It's a measuring stick game for the coaches and players. A loss will signify to the players on either team that they have work to do. Fortunately, it's only Christmas, and there will be ample time to get better as a squad. I could also see a loss as a major inducement for one of the GM's to make a mid-year acquisition.

As for the respective fanbases responses, you've nailed it. If my Lakers lose, oh well, it's just a game. If the Lakers win, it will be strictly fly swatter material for those pesky, boastful Heat fans that keep buzzing around this and other forums as though they've already won the O'Brien Trophy.
