West is still better for now. We need to see how Miami, Chicago, and New York do to change it.

The East has the teams in terms of being "elite" in the Heat, Magic, Celtics, who are possible of winning it all.

The West has the better teams OVERALL.

This will turn into another pointless poll just like the best team of the 2000's.. You know the one where the Lakers won the most Championships and the knucklehead writers and fans decided that San Antonio was the best team.. Just makes no sense but then again I guess it doesn't have to make sense when hate is involved.. So yeah the West has virtually owned the the Trophy for the better part of 11 seasons now yet people keep saying that the East owns the more elite teams.. If this is true then why does the East continue to lose in the Finals..?? Anyways OK yes the East is better now because Bron and Wade are on the same team.. Apparently that's what you need to hear so there.. You've now been validated and the East is going to lay little monkey dookies all over the crappy West..

Which conference sent eight 50 win team to the playoffs in 2009-2010?

The East is top heavy, but the best team is still in the west as well. Gotta be the west.

East has more top contenders that could win it all.

Best teams in the West ( no particular order )
LA
Utah
Dallas
Denver
Portland
OKC
San Antonio
Houston
Suns

East
Miami
Orlando
Boston
Chicago
Bucks
Atlanta

The west will still have good playoff caliber teams that will not make the playoffs. The east has improved a TON! But will still have a .500 or a sub .500 be their eighth seed. Its good to see the gap close as that is better for basketball. Hopfully some other teams in the east can rise up and challenge the top teams.

Yeah but look at it this way, in the west you have to play great teams all the way though the playoffs to get to the finals. The top teams in the east have a cake walk the first and sometimes second round. Personally I think many of the top teams in west can challenge or are even better than the tops teams in the east. Take out the top 4 teams in the east and it gets sad in a hurry. The top teams in the east have an easier season, where the west is stacked and play harder opponents. It means more to win 50 games in the west than the east.

East is top haevy. Heat, Magic, Celtics are all capable of winning it all. West is well balanced from 1st to 8th seed, but Lakers are the only team that possess a realistic threat to east's big three teams.

Easy to say without any proof.. In fact East coast minded people have been saying this for years.. How do you prove this though when the West continues to win Championships and sends more teams into the post season with winning records..?? It's easy to say they have more contenders, but the fact is there's no way for you or anyone in here to say that any team in the East beats San Antonio, Phx or Dallas in a Finals especially when the West has won 8 of the past 11 Championships..

West, but the East are starting to catch up.

If Melo and Paul leave for the East the tables could turn...

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. The west had 8 50 game winners last year, and the east had 4. The east is improving, but the west is still better.

Lol, pretty early to make a statement like that.

I voted East; the West belongs to the Lakers, as proven by their 3 straight Finals appearances since acquiring Pau Gasol. Don't shoot the messenger, but every other team in the West is a pretender right now.

The East, on the other hand, is up for grabs, and there's two teams that can take the Lakers to the limit with Boston. Then there's Miami that is the only team featuring 3 MVP talents surrounded by a supporting cast, but there's also up-and-comers like Chicago that can still grow and add pieces. Sorry I didn't include Orlando, but they didn't do much to keep up with Boston, Miami, and Chicago.

the west still has more good playoff teams, but the east is slowly closing the gap. the east should be better than it has been this year than for the last ten years. the eastern conference as a whole has been down for a long time, but with young stars moving east i see the east eventually surpassing the west as some of the western stars age.

We've learned our lesson expecting anything serious from the Mavs in the playoffs.

IMO, it's safe to say Chicago has a front court w/ a PG that can match up with any team in the West. Heat, 'nuff said.

But the point is, there's more better playoff teams in the East because they can give the Lakers more problems than the Western Conference did for the past 3 seasons.

Just my 2 cents.

Lakers, Mavs, Blazers, Nuggets, Thunder, Jazz, Spurs, Rockets, Suns are all capable of winning 50 plus. Grizzlies, Hornets, Clippers have some real nice talent to contend for the 8th seed as well. Kings, T'Wolves and Warriors are bottom feeders but Sac Town has potential.

Celtics, Heat, Magic, Hawks are all really good and outside of that, you don't know what you are going to get from anyone else.

WEST>>> EAST
