So we know it's hard to get to the Finals. And even if you lose in the Finals, you are still probably at least a really good team. The team that gets beat in the Finals is not always the 2nd best team in the NBA that particular year, but we still know they were one of the elite few. So who was the best Finals runner-up of the past 10 seasons??? Here is a brief summary of our candidates...

Pistons 05'.. they could have won that series, and it's considered a classic with the Horry shot, and it was a competitive series...

I like the Celtics of 2010. That was such a tough and gritty series. It went 7 games and the Celtics were up by 13 points in the 3rd quarter of game 7. One of the best playoff series I have ever seen. It was also cool to watch because the Celtics beat the Lakers in 2008 so it was a pretty cool rematch.

there really was no excuse for a team with kobe and shaq to lose in 04, but their egos got in the way

I would say Tayshaun's defense was a big part of it ;)

That Laker team had so many problems on and off the court. It was hard to watch sometimes... Kobe and the whole trial going back and forth between Colorado and wherever he played, Shaq being way way overweight, Malone and Payton really on their way out. Too many problems for that team, but still Kobe who had his offcourt issues, and Shaq who had his problems on the court and with the really big weight issue, these two still lead their team to the Finals, which was pretty crazy if we think about it.

Best runner up though IMO... 2010 Celtics... their defense was amazing, and they destroyed Miami, Orlando and Cleveland, while taking the Lakers to 7.

Voted 2010 Celtics.
Losing by -- not much, on the Lakers home floor, without Kendrick Perkins, 4-3, is not something to be ashamed of. They played hard and showed they still had it, and they rocked through their side till' the ECF.

Either the 2002 Kings (yes, I know they didn't go to the Finals but they were the real runner-ups), 2005 Pistons, or last year's Celtics.

The key players for the Nets werent RJ and Kenyon in their first finals run, and no the Lakers shouldnt have won that series vs Detroit. They were overmatched talent wise

I went with last years Celtics. If Perkins hadn't of gone down then who knows. They took a very stacked Lakers team to game seven.

i think we should probably eliminate injuries from the selection of this question. cause if both teams are healthy the lakers take it in 6 probably 5. if the lakers are healthy the pistons dont win the title. i think the best not to win is the pistons team that faced the spurs. that team was healthy and still lost but they went 7 games. by the way bynum out 6 games>>perkins 1 game

2010 Celtics or 2008 Lakers.

2004 Lakers? That team had zero depth and zero chemistry. Hypothetically they should have been better than the Pistons but the fact that they couldn't even get two games against them means its gotta be someone else. You can't lose 4-1 and be considered the best loser.

Any team that comes within one game of winning the title and loses is the the best runner-up.

So my vote goes to the 2005 Pistons or the 2010 Celtics.

Also, a special mention goes to the 2003 Nets. They were 10 points up with 10 minutes left in game 6 and let that lead go, letting the Spurs come back and take the series in 6.

the '05 pistons were the best runner up this decade. they didnt have a bunch of superstars, but as a unit they were a great team.

2004 Lakers. I think Kobe strayed towards the end and tried to do too much in the Finals, but they were a great team. That was the year of .4, they had all the momentum in the world.

Who actually thought the Lakers were going to lose in 04? As good (yet underrated at the time) as that Pistons team was that Lakers team had 4 future hall of famers on it no contest.

The Nets weren't bad, and the 2008 lakers were pretty good, but I think the 2004 Lakers were loaded. I'll go with them.

I actually liked the 2006 Mavs the most. They were up 2-0 and were leading much of Game 3. I liked that team, and thought they were built to win it all.
