Justin Masterson: Masterson pitched into the sixth for the 11th consecutive start Sunday, yielding four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in a loss to the Rays. The 25-year-old has a 2.45 ERA in five career appearances at Rogers Centre, all relief outings.

Shaun Marcum: Marcum has gone 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in three starts in July. On Saturday in Detroit, the right-hander allowed two runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in his second start since coming off the disabled list. He struck out five and walked one.

Jake Westbrook:Westbrook tossed eight innings of three-run ball Monday in a tough-luck loss to the Yankees. Curtis Granderson's homer in the eighth spoiled an otherwise sharp outing from the veteran righty, who is 2-1 with a 4.57 ERA in five games at Rogers Centre.

Brett Cecil: Cecil picked up a no-decision after logging seven solid innings on the road against the Tigers on Sunday. The lefty gave up two runs on six hits and ended with six strikeouts and one walk. Cecil is 1-0 with a 2.39 ERA in four July starts.

Josh Tomlin: Tomlin on Tuesday yielded one run over seven-plus innings vs. the Yankees to earn his first Major League win. The righty became the eighth pitcher in club history since 1920 to throw at least seven innings and allow one or fewer runs in his debut.

Jesse Litsch: Litsch started Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Tigers on Sunday and walked away with a no-decision. The right-hander gave up two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings, during which he struck out three and walked three.

Game Day Preview from MLB.com (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2010_07_30_clemlb_tormlb_1&mode=preview):
Marcum hopes for different fortunes in rematch

By Matt Fortuna / MLB.com
Shaun Marcum began July with a loss to the Indians before being sent to the disabled list the next day. He hopes to end his next start against the Tribe on a much better note.
The right-hander will face the Indians on Friday at Rogers Centre in his third start since coming off a 15-day DL stint with right elbow inflammation. He is 2-0 with a 2.53 ERA since.

The Tribe smacked Marcum around on July 1 at Progressive Field for six runs (five earned) on five hits over four innings in a 6-1 win. Marcum's seven strikeouts were of little consolation, and his subsequent placement on the DL only brought back bad memories for Toronto fans.

Marcum underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of the 2008 season on the same right elbow that bothered him following his start in Cleveland. He missed all of last season but had rebounded nicely to start 7-3 with a 3.14 ERA this season prior to July.

The 28-year-old has pitched well since his DL stint, though he has not gone six innings in either of his two starts.

His counterpart, right-hander Justin Masterson, will look to make it 12 consecutive starts of more than five innings. Masterson has not recorded a win since that same July 1 game, when he gave up just one run on eight hits over 8 1/3 innings, striking out five in the gem.

The 25-year-old has a 2.45 ERA in five career appearances at Rogers Centre, all in relief.

Indians: Back woes cut Talbot's start short
Mitch Talbot left Thursday night's start against the Yankees in the third inning with a mid-back strain and is listed as day-to-day. ... The Indians, after trading second baseman Jhonny Peralta to the Tigers, started Jayson Nix in his place. Manager Manny Acta said that closer Kerry Wood, dealing with a blister on his right index finger, will be activated this weekend in Toronto if the results from Thursday meet his expectations. Wood, who has not pitched since the All-Star break, missed one month with the Cubs in '08 because of a blister on the same spot. He will be eased back into the closer's role upon his return.

Blue Jays: Top of the order paces Jays
The Blue Jays are 6-2 with Fred Lewis and Yunel Escobar batting leadoff and second, respectively. It's a duo the club has used at the top of the order since acquiring Escobar over the All-Star break, and it has already paid dividends. Lewis has hit .333 (12-for-36) with nine runs scored and three RBIs, and Escobar has hit .361 (13-for-36) with seven runs scored and seven RBIs. ... Outfielder Travis Snider, who was with Double-A New Hampshire, will rejoin the Jays for the series against the Indians.

Worth noting
The Indians' Travis Hafner was scratched from the series finale against the Yankees on Thursday night. ... First baseman/outfielder Matt McBride was promoted to Triple-A Columbus after batting .285 with 17 homers and 64 RBIs in 94 games with Double-A Akron.

According to Jamie Campbell, Cito Gaston doesn't want to mess up the current lineup since they've won three in a row. I find that absolutely absurd. Put Jose Bautista at third base and Travis Snider in right field, and you've got a much better lineup.

ummm, when you have won 3 games in a row why would you change things? Granted, it was the Orioles, but there is only 1 person Snider can logically replace.. EE. However, EE has raised his average 50 points in the last 20 games, and is hitting .340 with 6 doubles over his last 12 games.

If Snider could have been here while Lewis was out it may have been a diff story, but Bautista is not coming out, Lewis is our lead off hitter, and Lind is scorching hot over the past week/month.

Wait till EE starts hitting like crap again, then move Bautista in there and Snider back in right..

The tigers obviously need a catcher who isn't Laird too - so it's a good fit. We'll see - I really like Buck but I hope he's moved so we can see JPA come up and play!

Jeez, I'm amazed at how hard it is for people to interpret an argument that isn't laid out step by step for them. It's not that hard, I don't think.

Point is, we're sitting in 4th place. Doesn't matter how Lewis is hitting right now, doesn't matter how Encarnacion or Bautista are hitting, we're still in 4th place. If you're contending right now, then you stick with the hot lineup, no argument there. But we're not, and we've got the most important part of the future of this offense sitting on the bench behind three guys that don't figure to play any role down the line when this team is ready to compete. There, simple, right?

People would have wanted Citos head on a platter if those two moves were not done, and we lost.

Hill bunting was the right move. Snider PH Molina was also the right move

I agree. If Snider is going to be a big producer for us he is going to have to learn to hit in those situations. Hiopefully we pull it out tomorrow and since we don't have a winning streak anymore what excuse will Cito use to keep Snider out.

CLE's starter for tomorrow has one MLB start against DET...did pretty well but his AAA numbers from this year, are awful...

His BB rate is high, and his K/9 has dropped. WHIP looks okay...

i wouldnt have bunted with Hill
and i wouldve let Molina hit...

he was 2-3 onthe day.

you dont bring in snider to pitch hit when the guy hasnt played in the majors for 2 months.

was at the game - it was worth it - for a boring, hot game. It got the crowd going.

( And in the end, a W doesn't really matter this season. )

FIP now sits at 5.47. I'm so glad he's starting games for us instead of Rzepczynski...

And thank you Cito, we all love it when you bring Tallet into tight games...
