Orlando has been one of the teams to beat on there side for the last 3 years when it comes to regular season play. They didn't need to adjust. The only team I see coming for that spot is Miami.

Now the playoffs ar different. Miami and Boston scare me then.

Huh, how? That's a horrible team. I'm not sure who will be worse between the Cavs/T-Wolves/Raptors next season, but I do know that they will be fighting for the #1 seed in that lottery draw come next spring.

Warriors with Curry/Ellis/D. Lee/ Biedrins back and Wright emerging will be better than a 15th seed, tell ya that.

From what I understand they changed the rule on that. The 3 division winners are garenteed a top 4 slot. But if a second place team is better then 1 or 2 of the other division winners. Then they can take the 2nd or 3rd seed. I forget where I heard that at but I think it had something to do with the spurs back in the day.

Hopefuly some one with some awsome NBA rules knowledge can help explain it better or show that i'm wrong.

Doesn't work that way anymore.
In the top 4 seeds, you are right, all three division leaders must be there. But it can be at any order. Hell, to prove my point, Atlanta was a third seed even though they finished second in their division.

Huh, how? That's a horrible team. I'm not sure who will be worse between the Cavs/T-Wolves/Raptors next season, but I do know that they will be fighting for the #1 seed in that lottery draw come next spring.

Cleveland will still be a borderline playoff team, I'm willing to bet that. Unless of course they completely trade all their players. I have hard time believing Lebron was worth more than 20 wins. That team still has some offense in Mo and Jamison. And it was a great defensive team. Defensively it will hardly change. A perimeter player does not have that much effect on a defense, but a big man does. Varejao hasn't left yet so I still expect them to be a top 10 defensive team and offensively they'll probably in the lower half in the league.

Sure about that?...

This team is starting Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon as their wings, along with no potential all star caliber player to supplement those deficiencies. That squad is not going to make a run at anything but the top of the lottery. The Pacers have a better team than this Cavs roster, and they're going to hover around ~30 wins. Lebron absolutely was worth 20 wins, are you kidding me? Probably far more. Even having the improvement of Antawn Jamison + Sessions for a full season, that team will struggle mightily to hit 30 wins. I actually can't even see that happening.

I'm positive.

Pacers have far more issues.
For one, they are bad defensively, Cavaliers are very good defensively. And after Granger, who exactly does Indiana have to score? Cavs at least have Mo and Jamison
Anthony Parker is an average player so I see no problem with that. Cavs weakest position sf, still willing to bet they get at least 35 wins.
Like I said, I find it very hard to believe that Lebron is worth more than 20 wins.
He is definitely not worth 30.

His best season (08-09), he had 20.3 win shares. This past season it was around 18. I'm gonna go ahead and assume you don't know much about win shares if you think he was worth "probably far more [than 20 wins]".

Anthony Parker is an average player? He sucks, dude. You're talking about a 35 year old who put up a PER of less than 10 (+ career avg's of 9/3/2 from a poor defender)... I wasn't even aware that was possible from a starter. Jamario Moon is equally horrible. Virtually every team has explosive wings now a days; those two are going to get LIT up. And Varajao may have been a nice energy player off the bench, but him + Jamison in the block are not exactly what I'd call a formidable low block. Mo Williams is decent, but not what most people would consider a top 15 point guard in the league (if even top 20). Losing their all league 1st team defender who can cover 3 positions does indeed hurt their defense (regardless if he's a wing or not). They won't be a top 8 defensive team this year, I can assure you that.

It's just a really poor team; thinking that they'll be in the playoffs is a joke bro. If you're really that eager to bet maybe we can work something out...

kozelkid

I wasn't even aware that was possible from a starter. Jamario Moon is equally horrible.

That's great, except I'd put Parker in the department of players that are the exception to the PER stat. Especially given how good his win shares and APM are.
It think you need to learn more stats than simply PER. It's one overall stat. And like any, it has its issues. When a player like Parker has very good APM and win shares, I'm inclined to believe that PER is more likely at fault.
Jamario Moon sucks no arguments there.

Virtually every team has explosive wings now a days; those two are going to get LIT up.

That would be true except Parker is a good defender. I also must have missed that defense is a TEAM concept. Moon is also a fairly good defender.

And Varajao may have been a nice energy player off the bench, but him + Jamison in the block are not exactly what I'd call a formidable low block.

Varejao is a top 5 big man defender in this league. You don't believe me? Check his opposing PER and defensive PM, one of the best in the league and by far the best on his team. Btw, that includes Lebron's.

Mo Williams is decent, but not what most people would consider a top 15 point guard in the league (if even top 20).

He's top 15 for sure.

Losing their all league 1st team defender who can cover 3 positions does indeed hurt their defense (regardless if he's a wing or not). They won't be a top 3 defensive team this year, I can assure you that.

Probably not. But they still will be top 10. Maybe top 5. Regardless, Lebron has always been an overrated defender. Inconsistent. Yes, those highlights with his chase down blocks are nice, but he was never consistent on that end.

It's just a really poor team; thinking that they'll be in the playoffs is a joke bro. If you're really that eager to bet maybe we can work something out...

They are borderline playoff team. So I'm not sure if they make the playoffs given how many other teams (like NY) have improved. What I'm willing to bet, however, is that they are 35+ win team assuming they don't trade their core pieces. For me, their core pieces are Varejao, Mo, Jamison, and maybe Hickson.

You need to learn more about win shares yourself bud. When a player is getting ~30 mpg on a 60+ win team and plays EVERY game, a 4.9 win share is not exactly amazing.

I'll cut this short because we're completely on a tangent here and leave it at this. The Cavs will > 8 games below the bottom playoff seed. If you'd like to make any type of bet based on those terms, get at me.

Miami
Boston
Orlando

and even that is subject to change

Miami better hope they have the maturity to work well with there roster or it could explode in there faces

lotta old dudes on that team
lotta injurys gonna happen out there this season

key guys for teams to stay healthy:

EAST
Bucks: Bogut
Orlando: Nelson
NY: Amare
Miami: Bosh/Wade

WEST
LAC: Griffin
LAL: Bynum
Houston: Yao
Portland: Oden

There are a lot of wild cards out there this season and I am excited!!!!!

Take Knicks and Bobcats out, Bobcats have done nothing but get worse they lost their starting PG and the team lost Tyson Chandler. They hardly made the playoffs last year and wont this year. Knicks won like 29 games or whatever and lost David Lee and Al Harrigton and got Felton and Amare. They are not a playoff team maybe in a few years.

In terms of the playoff teams, I'd say it's a pretty good prediction. I do think that 8th West seed will come down to Phoenix and Houston. The top 8 in the East are right on, but maybe a bit out of order.

Aren't 1st-4th reserved for the division winners and the best 2nd placed team of all divisions? So it would be possible that two teams from the same division rank 1st and 2nd in the conference. Last season Phoenix was 2nd in tje Pacific Divison and 3rd in the Western Conference, ahead of the Nuggets who finished 1st in their division.

In my opinion it's way to early to make any kind of prediction for next season. It's more like guessing right now...
I'm not judging any team that might look good on paper and hasn't played a game yet... Maybe Big Al will do better than Boozer in Utah and they could end up in the Top3. Maybe D-Will and Jefferson don't mesh at all and Utah is going to struggle... Same for the Heat, the Bulls etc... Ask me again when pre-season is over ;)

The Bobcats can easily be replaced in the top 8 with Wash Philly etc but the Knicks ARE making the playoffs this year barring some freak series of injuries..
David Lee is MAYBE a top 15 PF in the league, Amare is top 5 = upgrade.. Harrington sucks and personally cost us 2 games last year alone by hanging on the rim like an idiot so getting Harrington off the Knicks is an automatic upgrade IMO
