Who is the best role player in the NBA?

In my opinion, it's Lamar Odom. He brings a lot to the table with his versatility.

Odom is a very good rebounder, is especially solid on the defensive board as he gives the effort and will always look to box-out.

Lamar really has no equal at power forward when it comes to ball handling. He is a terrific passer who uses his length to see the floor and has a pass first mentality. His decision making can be shaky but overall he has the vision to play the point forward type of role.

Odom is an underrated defensive player. Very aggresive with a high foul rate but gives the effort and plays tough. Can guard multiple positions and does a good job staying with his man, keeping him in front and works very hard defensively.

Offensively, he's a very capable scorer. Uses his point guard like handle and good first step to get to the basket. Can take any power forward off the dribble and has a passable post game and can score inside with skill. Is not a consistent shooter, though.

Who's the best role player in the NBA today?

James Posey, even though I hated him during the Bulls-Heat playoff series a couple of years ago he always came in and got the job done and he was a HUGE part of the Heat and Celtics championships.

impossible to name a best role player. I am assuming it would need to be off a very good team. Cause I think Carl Landry, for example, would be the ultimate role player on a championship team.

I know what you mean, but I think Lamar would bring a lot more to a team than most guys..

BINGO! My first thought as soon as I read the thread title. James Posey is one hell of a role player.

He's on his way to being a star in Sacramento though.

I'd say a lot of the defensive specialists in the league.

Guys like Shane Battier, Thabo Sefolosha, Birdman, Kendrick Perkins, Ronny Turiaf etc. Some of these guys can give you offense but they are mainly there to fulfill their role of playing defense.

Anderson Varejao probably gets my vote for best role player in the league as he does exactly what is needed of him and always does it 100%.

I'd say Kendrick Perkins. The Finals showed how valuable he is.
