Unless Cleveland raises multi-year offer that starts around $3.5M, Matt Barnes will sign a 1-year, $1.7M deal with Lakers, sources tell Y! 2 minutes ago via web

Bummer that he isn't going to make much more money than he did last year. The Lakers can offer more than teams like Boston and Miami, so that's probably the main reason why he picked them definitively over those two. Cleveland can offer the most, but they suck.

Again, he's a guy who I think should chase money right now, just because he's never made much. But we'll see how badly he does want to win, and if he'll prove it by signing with LA for less than Cleveland's offer.

Not a bad pick up at all for the lakers if this happens. They get the backup SF they need and can fully run Lamar at PF off the bench

Steve Blake
Shannon Brown (If he returns)
Matt Barnes
Lamar Odom
DJ Mbenga

Is a prettttttty nice bench I like how that looks on paper for that team

ya miami is offering less money and less mins, so id be shocked if he came here.

Barnes has always been a paperchaser, it'll be interesting to see if he finally chooses winning over money. I can't see Cleveland willing to spend money on a role player despite all their claims about wanting to win.

Why exactly isn't Barnes going to resign with Orlando if he isn't going to get more than 1.7 million? Do they not want him?

god i hope we don't sign him, but if we do, a hearty welcome barney!!!

He's "only" earned $7.5m for his career, so i'm extremely surprised he's gonna take a pay cut to play in LA.

Why exactly isn't Barnes going to resign with Orlando if he isn't going to get more than 1.7 million? Do they not want him?Correct me if I'm wrong, but since he's only been their player for one season, the Magic would have to dip into their MLE to sign him. Don't know if they even have their MLE left.

Would be a great pickup for the Lakers, another low maintanence guy who can defend at hit open shots.

He would probably start for Cleveland though. I'd much rather have Barnes as my starting SF than Jamario Moon.

There are not many other/better option left out there for the Cavs (Maybe Rasual Butler), and Imo $3,5M for Matt Barnes is not bad value.

Lakers Bi-Annual Exception coming in clutch.

Wrong. Lakers don't have the Bi-Annual this year. They would be using the rest of the MLE for Barns.

Wrong again. he has made less than 8 million in his career.

Wrong again. he has made less than 8 million in his career.Wrong (:)). Just because no one wants to pay him doesn't mean he's not chasing the papers. He wanted a big contract after improving his play when he was with the Warriors.

We can offer him the same amount LA can (we have no MLE left). But we already have a lot of wing players...and aren't looking to spend more money than we need to. Barring a big trade, I think a third string PG is all Orlando has left to sign.

He wanted it, but didn't get it. There was no money for him to chase. He did jump at the chance to go to the raps this year for 5 million a year though..lol.

I hope he does get paid. Im from Sacramento and played against him in highschool, he was a pretty big deal here in Sac when he was in highschool, but I think he would have made more money if he stuck to football. he has a bunch of highschool WR records down here.

umm, but he was already on the team, so it's not like they couldn't sign him. Who else are they trying to sign?

I Agree. He's made a little over 7 million his whole career if I'm not mistaken. The guy is trying to chase a place he can finally call home.

If LA can get Theo Ratliff to sign for the vet min to be their backup center, then they have a really nice looking bench (assuming Barnes signs)

He would be stupid to go to Miami. They have no playing time for him.Would be lucky to get 6mpg. Lebron and Wade are both 39mpg players. My guess is Wade will play some pg to add a shooter between him and Lebron and they already have Miller so he will get bury on the bench end result a worst contract the next season. On the Lakers Him and Blake and Odom is the first two coming off the bench a major role. Miami is only trying to keep him away from the Lakers, they have no major use for him and could trade him mid season to a non contender and Lakers don't make many mid season trades.

Lakers Bi-Annual Exception coming in clutch.

The Lakers do not hav the BAE. They used it last summer. The 1.7 million is the remainder of their MLE.

He'd be a good fit for the Lakers. He went to school at UCLA too, so its kinda like a homecoming.

He'd actually play a ton of minutes in LA, and if LA wins again next year with him playing a good role, LA would likely offer him a bigger contract, or at worst he'd get bigger money, guaranteed with some years with another team.

Still its a nice pickup for LA if it goes through... guy will play big minutes with Blake and Odom.

if we get him, then solid pickup. only for only 1.7 mil. is also a plus. he plays good D and shoots the 3. But it'll probably mean the end of the shannon brown era.
