Looking forward to see how some of these young bucks step up and prove they deserve to be on the same level as the guys before them, Derrick Rose in particular.

Spain are favorites to win it, though I'm not sure who I am rooting for yet.

USA are always favorites for basketball tournaments, no matter who they send.

Spain, Greece, Serbia, France, Lithuania all might advance a lot in this tournament, but win it, we can never be sure. Spain is the best European nation though, so if the USA fail, they're #2 favorites.

Anyone else thinks Team USA will fail in this tournament? I see them losing in quarter finals(if they face a decent opponent) or in the semis. No gold or silver for them.

Too young a core for such a tournament, no international experience, no time to gel with eachother.

My preferred USA most frequent lineup for best results:

Rondo/Rose
Granger
Durant
Odom
B.Lopez

But I think the US coaching staff and players will mess up again like in 2006 and use weird lineups and cause them an early loss.

We're kind of lacking in size, and center depth. We could be exploited down low if any countries have some size.

Scariolo is not that bad.

Germany, Croatia and Russia so far SUCK in the Cyprus tournament which also includes Greece.

28pts win for Greece vs Germany
38pts win for Greece vs Russia
18/48 win for Greece vs Croatia in 2 hours from now? :D

They are the worst "big" country in basketball :D

They could have a decent team though with Gordon, Azubuike & Deng(maybe a few others)

They are not participating in the Mundobasket (world championship). They are currently playing for qualification to the Eurobasket of Lithuania in 2011.

Too bad for England I guess. Anyway, my Argentina team is looking good. Delfino-Noch-Scola will handle the scoring. Only guy I don't like on the roster is Oberto. Seriously, he stinks. :(

I will put up GTs every day for marquee Non-USA WC games so that we can have a discussion. There will also be a thread for the "rest of the games", meaning for games that no one cares about.

Just to increase activity in here.

they should make the tournament last longer :/

Is Donata Motiejunas not in the FIBA tourney? I didn't see him at all in Lithuania's game against Canada. Pretty surprised, he's considered a top talent in europe. Maybe he's hurt.

Argentina (and Greece) is playing at the minimum capacity needed imo. Keeping their best for when it counts.

Something the inexperienced Americans are not doing and might cost them. We've even seen them struggle against the first teams that actually played to win against them!!!

If the Americans had faced the two inferior sides first, then Croatia and Slovenia would have fought more against USA. I think Slovenia could have beaten them if they were dedicated to the game.

USA-Brazil btw was not that great of a game imo. It had a very nice 1st half but the 2nd half was very bad, too many turnovers etc. It's just the final 1-2 minutes that made the game so intense. Maybe the best finale of the tournament so far (along with the first 2 Germany games) but quality-wise it didn't say much. Just proved that the USA is really bad against pick & roll and can allow you too many free shots. Spain can punish them, not sure about Greece after our shooting so far. Turkey, Slovenia, Argentina, Brazil all can beat the Americans in the knockout stage, and if the French, Croats and Serbians face them on a bad day, they could beat them too.

Slovenia>Serbia so far for me (also taking into account Teodosic & Krstic return, meaning I have the pre-tournament friendlies on my mind too)

When will the QFs [ Serbia v. Spain, Turkey v. Slovenia ] begin? The official FIBA WC website has those games on Wednesday 8 September, while ESPN says it's on Tuesday 7 September.

I'm going with the official website but I'm just making sure

Really? I love it. Finally get to see the US in a physical game instead of just running everyone out the building. I will admit it may be more exciting at the very end if its close then seeing this for a whole game.

USA is starting to get away in the scoreboard... 42-35 42.5 seconds to the half

Fred
09-09-2010, 11:56 AM
that was a nice run to end the half (14-4) to get a 5 point lead....but, while i realize that they are playing by FIBA rules, there seems to be little organization....they are playing street ball most of the time and when they get physical, then the refs call it (equally)
....maybe I just have to like international style ball a little more

btw, there is no "d" in steph curry....

14 point lead after 3q
