I'm waiting for the Lakers to bring Shannon Brown back, I also wanted them to get TMac. However, as I watch the summer league games. I think it would be a good idea for us to give Gerald Green the last spot.

He's 6'8, relatively young (Class of 05), ex-slam dunk champ. His defense has improved and he has a similar game to Kobe and TMac. He won't get a lot of minutes but could be mentored by the best player in the NBA...We might as well groom someone to take Kobe's place in the next 4 years.

I can see Blake running the break with Gerald Green and Shannon Brown on the wings...Heck, he could do it in the half court set. Just throw it up and let them both go get it.

He has NBA experience and we could use another player who can break someone down off the dribble.

Got this link off you tube. Some of you may not like the language on the song but the "HIGHLIGHTS" Whew!

Why should we give him the last spot? What are you basing this on? This dude does not belong in the NBA.

Go Dodgers!

Real athletic guy, I have been watching him play in the summer league also and I think he has played well. Here's a dunk he did on the Kings the other day..

Maybe it's just me but.... the guy sucks.

He definitely does not belong in a Laker uniform if he can't make it on -500 teams.

I don't know, that's just me.

Dear Truplayer199 and Avenged24, I respect your opinion but obviously you don't know that much about basketball...You are probably just a "FAN."

First of all, if he couldn't play, he wouldn't have gotten drafted #18 in the 1st round of 2005.

In basketball, you don't always get cut or waived from a team regardless of their record because you can't play. Sometimes, it's political, sometimes, it's financial, sometimes, you don't get along with the coach.

Perhaps you also didn't view the link or watched him play this summer. Hopefully, you're not going on reputation or an assumption.

Perhaps, you're a "hater" but despite your opinion, Gerald Green has skills. He would kill Sasha on offense, there's one clip of him dunking on Lamar!

I know dunking isn't everything but there are also clips of him shooting 3's. Don't forget, Shannon Brown didn't play in Cleveland and didn't play much with the Bobcats but when he got here we love him.

Finally, we need to be more athletic, get younger, and have someone who could give us some offensive puch off the bench, someone to make other SG or SF play defense.

Would if you saw a clip that only showed Kobe dunk and shoot one jump shot would you rush to judgement and say he was similar to Shannon Brown?

You guys trip me out, when you either don't really know about a player or decide you just don't like them.

The game is about matchups...He's 6'8 like TMac (who wasn't a great shooter when he first got in the league...check out his stats) and Shannon Brown is 6'4.

Why would one compare someone 6'8 to someone 6'4?

No. You think way too highly of this guy.

And when I mean "way too highly" I mean, you compared his game to Kobe and T-Mac's.. That in itself shouldn't merit a response.

If you want to go athletic, young and a spark off the bench, Green is not the way to go.

anyone that EVER gets mentioned in association with the NBA has SOME skills....but this guy is another shannon brown.....so take your pick....you want shannon or green? you cant have both....has nothing to do with hating on him....like you said before...sometimes it is political....or whatever, but this guy has been bounced from team to team for a reason.....he is NOT lighting up the summer league like ebanks or caracter are.....so excuse us if we dont jump on your bandwagon....we just dont see him making the team

We already have a guard that can do sick dunks off the break. His name is Shannon brown. I would only consider giving this guy a spot if we didnt get Brown back. We need shooters off the bench.

The Lakers are too smart to sign this guy.

Wow. He can dunk. So can every other guy in the NBA.

The Lakers have made it a habit a of late to leave that last roster spot open just in case something pops off before the trade deadline. Can't see Gerald Green gettin it just because he's athletic. I see dunks every weekend at the community park....doesn't mean these cats belong in the L!

LAS VEGAS -- During All-Star Weekend in February 2007 in Las Vegas, there were a lot of stars. By the end of the weekend, Gerald Green had joined the list.

The high-flying Boston swingman won the NBA slam-dunk contest at the Thomas & Mack Center. He then put the finishing touches on a strong second season in which he averaged 10.4 points.

But what's become of Green since then?

Let's just say nobody is green with envy.

Green slipped badly after 2006-07 and wasn't even in the NBA last season. Now, he's playing in the NBA Summer League with the Lakers, and not exactly starring.

But Green did score 18 points Thursday in an 80-71 loss to San Antonio to finish with a 8.6 summer scoring average. That might be enough to get an invitation this fall to Lakers training camp.

"He got off to a slow start but he picked it up with increased minutes,'' said Lakers assistant and summer coach Chuck Person. "So there's a chance to be invited in the fall. He has the opportunity and he has the skill set that very few people have. He's very athletic and he can run and shoot. He just has to keep developing the mental part of his game. ... Hopefully, he'll get invited to fall camp, and we've got some spots open. So there's an opportunity for him.''

Imagine that. It's gotten to the point Green, taken with the No. 18 pick in the first round by Boston in 2005 directly from high school, would be happy just to get a training camp invitation on a non-guaranteed contract.

"I'm just trying to get my face back out there because I've been missing the action for a season,'' Green said of playing in the summer league after spending last season with Lokomotiv Kuban, a team in Krasnodar City, Russia. "So my main goal is to get out there and let people know that I'm back. Now, I'm trying to get back here and trying to land in somebody's vet camp.''

Share6 Green also was in the McDonald's All-American Slam Dunk Contest as a high school senior in 2005 and was the NBA runner-up dunker in 2008. Person said Green might have been too occupied with dunking earlier in his career, which hampered him from fully developing other parts of his game.

"We tried to hammer that home in the three- or four-day minicamp we had and in the five, six days we had (in Las Vegas),'' said Person, who said Green has to "learn the other players (on the court) can help you and let the ball help you and not just depend on athleticism."

Green, though, denies he's been too concerned about dunking.

"I never really thought that dunking was everything,'' said the 6-foot-8 free agent. "Even when I was in high school I never thought dunking was everything. Just the fact I dunked on people, people thought that.''

"I'm a big believer it's not how you start, it's how you finish. I don't have to be high profile. I just want to be on somebody's team. I'm not trying trying to be an All-Star. I just want to play basketball."
-- Gerald Green Now 24, Green says he's matured a lot. His arduous journey the last few years has helped.

Green was shipped to Minnesota in the summer of 2007 in the massive deal in which the Celtics got Kevin Garnett. He split 2007-08 with the Timberwolves and Houston, averaging 5.1 points before being waived in March 2008.

Green signed with Dallas for 2008-09 (shown in above photo during his time with the Mavs), averaging 5.2 points in 39 games. But he said he didn't get any offers as a free agent last summer before heading to Russia.

"I got traded to Minnesota and that wasn't a good situation for me,'' Green said. "I just bounced around. That's how it goes. If I can just find somewhere where I can stick, I think I'll be OK.

"I can't worry about what happened in the past. I'm just trying to worry about the future. I'm a big believer it's not how you start, it's how you finish. I don't have to be high profile. I just want to be on somebody's team. I'm not trying trying to be an All-Star. I just want to play basketball.''

If he wants to do it in the NBA, Green knows there are things he must improve.

"I have to work on every aspect of my game,'' Green said. "I can improve my ballhandling. My defense has gotten better. I want to get stronger and my shot to get a little better.''

Well, there's one thing Green doesn't need to improve. That would be his dunking.

But be assured the Lakers, even though next season's All-Star Game is at the Staples Center, aren't looking to sign a dunking specialist.

first off let me ask u where i said "i didnt like him",and yes ive seen him play and there is a reason why he was in russia playn last year and not n a NBA roster ..he's 1 demensional ,yeah he might get lucky and hit a 3 now and then ,but i also seen shaq hit a 3 before...every dog has his day..

problem is if we sign brown carracter and ebanks...we would still need veteran big to back up AB/pau; hence even though green might be worthy of that spot...its going to be hard to find place for him...

He can't survive on standard offense teams, how will he survive in the triangle offense? He has no outside shot. And who did he play for last year? Some hick team in Siberia! I'll take Ebanks thanks.

He's just a great athlete. It seems like he doesn't know how to play basketball. Always looking lost, confused and sloppy.

If we should sign anyone from the summer league team besides the rookies, DJ Strawberry. He looks like a pretty solid player.
