View Full Version : Players Who Can Get To The Rim With Ease, But Don't Do It Enough For Some Reason

Who are they in your opinion? I know a lot of player's bodies can't handle getting banged up like Allen Iverson, but some players seem like it'd be better to attack more, and have the ability.

Chris Paul comes to mind. Now, in his case, I know he's a true PG and doesn't want to score that much unless needed, but sometimes he didn't when it was needed.

Who comes to mind for you?

LeBron and JR Smith are the first to come to mind.

LBJ killed the Pistons in the 2007 ECF Game 5 by just going to the basket. Hopefully he gains that mentality back.

JR Smith has the type of athleticism most players dream of, but likes linger on the perimeter too much.

Lamar Odom. I watch that man drive, and every time he gets there so easily, and scores so easily with that wingspan. He could be the best sixth man out if he attacked. He just doesn't. And he'll only do it on nights where Kobe is doing good. If Kobe is struggling, LAmar will pass to him anyway. Makes no sense to me.

I think this has become known as "The Vince Carter Syndrome."

I'm a Carter fan, and this is what confuses me. I mean, even NOW if he attacked the rim at his age he would be give a lot of trouble for opposing teams. He needs to be more aggressive period.

Totally.
I'm not even trying to bash the guy, and I'm a diehard raps fan. He even said in an interview while still in Toronto that he wouldn't throw down any more big dunks because he wanted to be known as a shooter.
Ugh. He could still get one on pretty much any big man in the NBA if he got a lane.

I think Kobe can get to the rim a lot more but he has always been more of a jump shooter.

I think a lot of that has to do with teams designing their defences to make sure that he's a jump shooter!!

Wade and Kobe don't do it as much as the used to, most likely for the sake of their bodies.

But the ultimate culprit here is Vince Carter.

Thats the sole reason why most players dont go even with ease the constant bouncing off 250+ big man will tire anyone out.

Anyways my pick is Tony Parker he used to be known for his floaters but now he likes taking jumpers.

Monta Ellis and Jason Richardson as well, although I havent seen much from Monta lately

rudyfernanez just ask dwight

but stpid mcmillan just uses him as a three point spot up shooter and tdoes not allow him to hanbdle the ball or drive in.

Danny Granger. Most games it's even hard to notice when he's on the floor because he floats around the 3pt line all night.

besides the guys mentioned, jamal crawford.

to me he had one of the sickest handles in the game but always fell in love with the three. he has still had a good career, but i think he could have been a lot better.

come on guys..you have to know basketball is not just driving to the basket and vice versa. in order to be a scorer or labeled as a go-to-guy one must be good at both to have more options on what defense gives you. in the playoffs where every shot is crucial opposing teams would pack the lane and prefer to let you shoot a contested shot..that's why Kobe or DWade excel on this situations because both can drive and pull up and hit the shot depending on what the defense gives them.

maybe not now, but definitely VC. he would frustrate me so much sometimes. fadeaway jumpers and unnecessary 3s when he could get to the basket at ease. now though, in his 30s and bad knees, i kinda understand why he doesnt do it as much as he used to.
