This is the team they have thus far

PG Kidd/Beaubois
SG Butler/Terry
SF Marion/???
PF Dirk/???
C Chandler/Haywood

Beaubois is going to kill it next year.

If they sign Harrington, then yes. That's a crazy deep squad. Don't know why they signed Haywood for so much money just to trade for Chandler, but they do have 2 very good centers.

Nevermind, AL is a Nugget.

Haywood starts over Chandler. And I'd say no, this team is pretty much the same team that lost in the playoffs last year pretty weak.

Liking Dirk and Tyson. That's a powerful post.

They should find plenty of floor time for Roddy Beaubois. Their window gets smaller every year as Dirk ages. Beaubois has the potential to keep it open longer.

It would actually look something like this:

Jason Kidd - JJ Barea
Roddy Beaubois - Jason Terry - DoJo (Dominique Jones)
Caron Butler - Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki - Nobody Yet
Brendan Haywood - Tyson Chandler

And yes, I'm not sure if most of you have heard of Roddy B, but he is something special. He has the talent to average well over 20 points a game. If you throw in Caron Butler and Jason Terry off the bench you have some serious scoring. Not to mention defense specialists Haywood, Marion, and Chandler.

The team isn't done in the offseason, and is still looking to make a big move for someone like Rip Hamilton or Andre Iguodala.

Harrington just signed with the Nuggets...

They have to add another big scorer.

it will be until dwayne wade falls over at the red line and then is awarded 25 free throws.

They don't need a big scorer, they need consistent play from the 2. Haywood can finish, and that is good enough when you play next to Dirk Nowitzki.

Nope, Dallas still needs more improvements. This looks like another 50 wins and first round exit squad.

They will definitely be a very good team, but I don't know about best. They had a great regular season before before their series loss to the Warriors a few years back. And In 03-04 they had a really great team on paper.

C: Dirk Nowitzki/ Eduardo Najera
PF: Antoine Walker/ Antawn Jamison
SF: Josh Howard/ Marquis Daniels
SG: Michael Finley/ Marquis Daniels
PG: Steve Nash/ Tony Delk

that team had no center and they were bounced out of the playoffs pretty easily by the Kings in the 1st rd. The season before (02-03) that was pretty good where had that ridiculous start..like 12-0 before losing their first game on Thanksgiving.

This upcoming season's Mavs team would have been really good if they could have signed Al Harrington or Udonis Haslem. They need a backup PF who can offer great minutes...they have the second strongest in the West (on paper)

Tyson Chandler is not the final piece. They'll be great again and don't get me wrong I'd love to have a squad like that in NY but they aren't a title team and Dirk and Kidd keep getting older... I would call the Clippers and say "Dirk for Blake and Gordon?" and hope they bite.

Dirk got a non-trade contract (2nd time in history).

They'll get more chemistry during camp. Probably will be the deepest in terms of names. But guys get older. Chandler will never have a full (or near full) season of being healthy, so people have to take that into account also.

Honestly, unless Kidd and Terry find a way to drink from the fountain of youth, no, this isn't the best Mavs team ever. I don't even think they're the second best. Dirk had a few games last year where you could visibly see him getting older as well, which doesn't bode well. On top of that, good luck keeping Chandler healthy and happy. This team will still lack points in the playoffs and falter relatively early. We just don't have the sure scoring we'd need to actually compete.

Yup I agree. Nothing special here. Just another good team that will lose in the playoffs to a better team...

Another Mavs team right now who will fall short. They still have no real 2 guard, and no consistant second scorer for Dirk. The only bright spot is that at the deadline, Dallas has about 40 million worth of expiring contracts they can work with, so that is the only big improvement I could see happening.

Gotta factor in age at some point. Also every year it seems the Mavs get really good and then choke. I picked them to win last year at midseason and look what happened.

Cbast09
07-14-2010, 11:17 AM
No, they will just be a 50 win team and quick out playoff team. They still need some slight improvements to take them to the next level.

Tyson Chandler is trash, bar Roddy improving it'll be no different from last years team

Those who are saying they will be a quick out in the playoffs... Who is beating them?

Your argument against Dallas works against the Spurs too. Both are getting older and with Dallas picking up Chandler, I like them over the Spurs.

Utah got Jefferson for Boozer basically but I still think Dallas is better...

OKC doesn't have the size to match up with Dallas.

Pheonix won't be nearly as good, they still don't have a PF.

Houston could be a dark horse. Nobody wants to talk about them but they have a very solid squad if everyone stays healthy.

Either LA or OKC would beat them IMO. Maybe Houston (if ever healthy).

Let me tell you, at least on paper, they look very stong. They just need learn how to make that roster work, but they most certainly have one of the more talented rosters in the league.

Thats why no one wants to talk about them, they havent proved otherwise. i dont think Yao will ever be the same, theres alot of rust there.

Yeah. I didn't even bring up LA. I think they are far and away the best team in the West.

OKC would challenge Dallas, there's no doubt about it, I just think Dallas has more size and experience. Also, they match-up well with OKC. Butler and Marion take turns on Durant. Kidd, Terry and Robby B chase Westbrook around from time to time.

Who do you have covering Dirk? He torches that roster of big men. Haywood and Chandler are both good rebounding big men who can handle their business on offense as well.

Yah I see what you mean. Dirk is amazing and one of the best PF's in the game.

Dallas is probably the one team out west that can defeat LA.
