According to a source, Zydrunas Ilgauskas is close to accepting a contract from the Miami Heat. The Cavs had an offer for Z on the table.

Howard, who has been finalizing his minimum-scale deal with Heat President Pat Riley, is in the midst of sorting out last details before joining the team.

In my opinion Z proved his loyalty to the Cavs last season when they traded him and he returned to the team. At this point he should be able to go ring chasing and Miami is a great situation for him since the Cavs won't be able to compete for a title next season.

Can't wait to see Big Z and Juwan Howard run the fast break with these guys.

In all seriousness though, Juwan played well last season. He should offer solid minutes off the bench. The Heat need to look at some fresher, younger legs in the post though too.

So we can pretty much rest assure that Shaq won't be back with the Cavs as well...

So their lineup is looking like:

PG: Mo Williams / Gibson

SG: Anthony Parker / D. West

SF: Jamario Moon

PF: Antawn Jamison

C: Varajao / J.J. Hickson

Can that team win 20 games? Even if they had kept Big Z and Shaq, that is just disgusting to look at. Hopefully for them they'll get the #1 and swoop Harrison Barnes in the draft next season; dealing Jamison would be a huge bonus as well.

The scary thing about this Heat team is that they're seemingly all filled with old/tight friends (Bosh/Wade/Lebron - Wade/Haslem/Miller- Lebron/Z). That's not exactly going to hurt them when it comes to figuring out differences on the court.

Don't overlook Dexter Pittman. The dude got the body to bang and the will to win (he slimed down 100 lbs to prepare for the draft, now at a skinny 306). I take him to defend Dwight over Kwame Brown anyday. Hell, I take Dick Vitale over Kwame Brown.

You mean after they lost Arenas and went 15-45, losing 16 straight at one point after they dealt Butler/Heywood? EVEN WITH all of their roster healthy (which was infinitely better than this Cavs roster is without Lebron) - they were something like 10-20.

Honestly I doubt the Cavs win 20 games w/ out LBJ, but that may be their best case scenario in the long run anyway.

Hahahahah... I wanted to bold and isolate just one part, but there was nowhere to stop. Dude I'm not a Heat fan, and I'm not too excited about their team being this good -- but they are a couple small pieces away from being a potentially legendary team. Dynasty legendary.

You really don't understand how good Lebron and Wade are, do you? These are ALL-TIME great talents, on the same team... in their prime. Do you have any idea how hard it is going to be to guard two superstars that can't even be stopped via a double team? And now that they have built up a solid role playing cast (which will only improve), you are going to find yourself eating crow with the ridiculous comments you're making.

I really think that you guys are trying to rip these moves here without reason. They only have the veteran minimum to offer these guys and they got two quality bigs who had a solid role on playoff teams last year. I hate the big 3 as much as anyone but this is starting to become a complete team here. Z is a very nice addition to the front court, he can stretch the floor for the slashers and has already played with LeBron and gives him a trusted friend to go to off the court as well.

Obviously they still need to add some size and strength to their depth up front for this team but they are starting to put together a championship caliber team.

It's funny that most people (including myself until I actually saw them perform in the playoffs) considered the Cavs cast last year "definitely good enough" to win the title, but now this crew "just can't quite cut it"?

I wouldn't be surprised if a year or two down the road (when they've fully gelled and they add a true center) that they won't lose more than 15 games the entire season - including the playoffs.

I agree, but I think there is over-exaggeration on both sides. Heat fans and others are exaggerating the importance of say, an Ilgauskus or a Juwan Howard while mostly Lakers fans and any other new Lebron/Heat haters are immediatly putting these moves down as if the heat have enough money to sign a Dirk or Dwight.

The Heat won't be able to do much so I don't want to hear things like these are "great" moves or whatever but at the same time, they don't have much of a choice. They are trying to do the best they can, with what they got. When they signed these three and then Miller, they knew they wouldn't have a lot of $ left over.

As for the signings, they get some size(he never really gets down in the post though) and a nice shooting touch in Ilgauskus. Only problem is, his shooting touch won't really effect how other teams defend the Heat while he is on the floor. If it comes down to it, the opposition will let Z beat them. You think the Celtics are going to be sending Perkins out 15-17 feet to contest an Ilgauskus jumper? No, they will keep him in the paint to help guard LeBron and Wade. If Ilgauskus drops 35 on 15-17 shooting and going 5-8 from the line, then good for him.

Howard is a good role player who is getting up there in age. He played pretty well on Portland last year and he actually had to play some solid minutes with all of their injuries. He doesn't need the ball, is smart and can play solid defense.

Howard is a good role player who is getting up there in age. He played pretty well on Portland last year and he actually had to play some solid minutes with all of their injuries. He doesn't need the ball, is smart and can play solid defense.

I think J Howard will be a nice asset off the bench though.

Also, having a center with mid range.. I think he's going to take a big out of the paint and open up the lain. Old or not, if you put anybody short on him he can definitely hit jumpers all day.

The Heat won't be able to do much so I don't want to hear things like this are "great" moves or whatever but at the same time, they don't have much of a choice.

If it comes down to it, the opposition with let Z beat them. I agree with everything that you're saying. Both sides have exaggerated this but all the people hating on the situation really don't have much reason to besides jealousy. To your point about teams letting Z beat them, well I'm sure that's what the Heat got him for. He can still hit shoot from mid-range and at a fairly decent rate too.

Howard can provide some good depth on this team and he is a veteran presence which is always good. The Heat aren't going to be able to get young talented players to fill these roles so getting veterans with a lot of experience is always helpful. If they can get Erick Dampier that would also be a very good signing for this team.

This team isn't done finishing out the roster yet but they definately are getting better names then I though they would.

I thought juwan howard was out of the league LMFAO yeah they are desperate for bench help this is going to be a catastrophe in miami. Lebron has messed with karma in a big way and i see an ACL tear in his future.

Pathetic fans.

there would be an easy way to stop them. play a zone. none of them can shoot the 3 ball amazingly and all they do is slash. howard in the middle taking that away, lewis' length and maybe even having gortat on the court at once would take the heats game away. i understand that lebron and wade are amazing players. BUT THEY ARE BOTH SELFISH PLAYERS. they are used to doing it all on their own. they are going to have huge problems come playoff time

Desite their age, i love these moves. What they lack in athleticism will be made up by the big 3. They should make a play too for Jarron collins or Theo Ratliff too.

I think they'll find ways to beat the zone, but I agree with some of your points. I sense, next season, that we're going to see teams play the Heat with the Zone D a whole lot.

LOL you sound so jealous and mad.... You try to find any little thing to put this team down no MATTER what... point is we have 2 of the best players in the world in their prime... NONE can guard these guys straight up... Contain them at times? Sure but they will either get to the hoop or get fouled because they are THAT GOOD... to top it off we have chris bosh or has a great midrange shot if you play zone they can just pass to him at the FT... Your just hating my friend..

Zone are you kidding me? They are great slashers for a reason... They can get to the hoop at will... Help will come which will lead to easy baskets.... And Wade can shoot the ball my friend and has improved his range obviously u dont watch any basketball...

Don't you see teams play off of Rondo but he still manages to take over the game and get to his spots...

Actually scratch that there is no way this is real with the comments. Gotta be a fake account. The following is too extreme to be real.
