Currently playing today, in his prime, would be considered the overall clear cut #1 player today? #2-5?

You could've just made your argument for Kobe in the thread...

Probably Shaq.

T-Mac might lead the league in scoring, but wouldn't necessarily be the best player.

We've never really seen Yao in his "prime" yet though...

He already is in the discussion. The question said in their prime, so he's in the top 5, and we all know that's not speculation, it's legit.

That was probably meant for players that are past their prime, turbo. Why be an annoying homer... everyone likes Durant, no need to try to sway them otherwise and force hate on the kid. Everyone thought Grant Hill was the next (more versatile) MJ before his injuries hit. Don't take it for granted.

I'll answer this question as to who would be the best, most important players to their team in their prime. And if you had the chance to draft them at their peak, this is the order I would take them.

1. Shaq - just too large/talented/unstoppable not to take #1. There were multiple players that were at, near or slightly better than Kobe in his prime - but there is only one Shaq in the league.

2. Duncan - No character flaws, just a pure winner who literally has no hole in his game and has never had a true beef with a teammate. As irreplaceable as Shaq, and only doesn't get the nod because of Shaq's insane build.

3. Lebron - In the same league as Shaq and Duncan as far as being irreplaceable. Nobody in the league has ever possessed his level of size/strength/speed/athleticism/talent in one package. I could see different GM's taking any of these top 3 with their first pick in a mock-draft like this, and none would be wrong.

4a. Garnett
4b. Kobe
4c. Wade
4d. Grant Hill
4e. Jason Kidd

There are others that would be right up there as well.

I have NO idea why he's not currently on an NBA roster but without a doubt Shawn Bradley.

Don't think it's fair to mention players like Lebron or Dwight because we haven't seen them play in their prime yet. They keep getting better each year

But I think Honestly think Jerry Stackhouse, and Grant Hill could be in the conversation minus injuries.
