Cheap.

That may be the best pick-up in this off-season, as far as subtle moves go. He deserves up to 6, and maybe 7.

Does this mean Brewer is going to Boston?

cheap pick up. Shame his defensive talents will rot in Memphis.

I'm confused how Tony Allen, who has been in the league for 5 years get the same contract as the Russian guy the Knicks signed.

I would guess so. They're essentially the same player (Allen and Brewer).

I feel Ronnie Brewer is a better player, and I'm surprised they didnt keep him. Solid player though.

Tony Allen is a great defender, but he may be the worst offensive player ever and his basketball IQ is abysmal. I'll miss his D, but I can honestly say I'm not sad at all to see him go.

Watching them blow wide open 10 footers was probably the best part about watching the Celtics last year. Well that and Scalibrine in ugly street clothes on the bench.

This just weakens Boston.

If by weaken you mean weaken our bench defense slightly, then yes. Avery Bradley, who the Celtics drafted is a fantastic defender with much, much, much better offensive upside than Tony Allen, which made TA largely expendable.

we reportedly had already worked out a deal with him I thought (even though everything wasn't worked out)

Yeah but he is a rookie so u dont know what to expect. You know what u get in Tony. And do you really think Avery will do as good a job on Kobe as Tony?

I thought Tony was a restricted FA so Boston can match the offer? If not, I'm surprised Boston aren't going to try to re-sign him, i mean $3.3m is very cheap, and Brewer will cost the same

sweet......surprised i just learned about this

anyone that can effectively guard Kobe is a great addition...i don't care if he can't play offense cause the grizzlies have offense in Mayo, Gay, and recenty drafted Xavier Henry...we needed a defensive specialist...and we finally have one...that's already won a ring....for only $3M? wow

Yeah, Avery Bradley, at nineteen years old, 6'3", and a whopping 180 lbs is going to play man defense on the likes of Kobe and Lebron like Tony Allen did...

I'm going to miss Allen, I loved his defense.

I was wondering why the Celtics didnt match that offer but you guys are probably trying to get better offensively off the bench. Plus Bradley is a stud defensively that is much better offensively jus a lil smaller.

I agree. I think he is a steal at that price, but his offensive IQ is pathetic. You need a defender like him coming off the bench though. He just seems like one of those pieces that championship teams have.

P.S. he baptized Jamison with that nasty dunk in the Playoffs. Awesome.
