Who are some guys in the league right now that started out their careers on such a positive note but then spiraled downward?

One player that comes to my mind is T.J. Ford. For a while, it looked like he was going to become an elite (or at least a very solid) point guard, but then he strangely declined and has essentially been relegated to a third-stringer in Indiana.

Marcus Fizer, Danny Forston thought to have some serious upside but being undersized and in Danny's case unfit saw them just disappear.

Darius Miles.

Supposedly he is trying to make a comback too. He's still young though. Like 28 or 29.

Mike Sweetney is another undersized (height wise) who just never lived up to expectations and found himself out if the league really quickly, fitness was a serious problem with him.

Most of these have been out of injury rather than just not living up to expectation or some strange decline.

Also it's a little early to write off Yi isn't it? He might have been overhyped early but he's still considered a solid young piece. He's been in the league 3 years and wasn't even a top 5 pick to begin with.

Fred Jones was starting to look alright after a few years in the league, and he won that dunk contest, then had a slow fade into oblivion.

Slava Medvendenko, Devean George, and even Bibby. The guy looked like he was easily going to be a Top 5 PG for years to come early in the 2000's. Than he completely fell off and is not even an all star anymore.

The original question specified cats that are still in the league, so I would say Jamal Tinsley, Jonathan Bender, Marquis Daniels, Shaun Livingston ( he really stands out), and Darius Miles.

I think a lot of the names, like Michael Redd or Yi would not fit. Redd had more good years than bad. He is injured but could come back cause he is a shooter and they always have a place.
Yi has never done anything. There are plenty of high draft pics that didn't pan out, he could be another. But started out as average, and hasn't grown.

He did have a pretty bad injury, but it didn't really affect him at all.

I looked him up and he suffered a contusion to the spinal cord, which can be career threatening. It caused him to miss all of 04-05. He did return with a clean bill of health on Nov 1, 2005 though.

Did T.J decline or did he fall and almost bust his back open? I think injury stopped his rise.

Retired around 2003 due to injuries, tried to make a comeback overseas last year I believe. He could have been a very good player, sucks to see injuries ruin careers.

Jonathan Bender, he retired in 2005 or so due to bad knees, I believe he made a comeback last year with the Knicks, not sure if he played.

Qyntel Woods, pot head, gets kicked off and suspended from about every team he has been on, played overseas a few years ago, probably playing still if they let him smoke the weed.

Trajon Langdon, European basketball superstar

Mike Sweetney, played for te Celtics I believe last year in the summer league, not sure if he is playing for anyone this year.

Fred Jones, played for the Clippers last year, es injured, so hes not playing anywhere right now.

Talk about a list of bums, and wasted potential. Thanks for taking me back in time bro, some of my favorite role players and debate examples are in there

People always trash guys like Vince for not becoming all-time greats with their talents, but to me the biggest sin comes when spectacular athletes choose not to develop their IQ or hone their skills and end up as guys who are out the league within a few years.

Its amazing, you never hear anyone trash guys who dont put in work. But they trash guys who do but not to their desired extent. NBA FANS ARE DUMB

Damon Staudamire - One look at his career stats tells you that he left most of his talent in Toronto. 19 points a game, 9.3 assists, and 4 rebounds as a rookie? Followed it up with 20.2 ppg, 8.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in his second season. He had good third year in Toronto after that, and then he got shipped to Portland where he never hit such numbers again.
