View Full Version : Who Will Richard Jefferson Sign With?

I kinda feel sorry for RJ. He opted out of $15 Million guaranteed from San Antonio looking to get the MLE or slightly above the MLE from a contender who fit his style of play. It made sense when he did it from his standpoint, but looking at all of the moves made and the lack of reported interest in him it looks like a very bad decision.

The market for him is drying up fast. I cant think of 1 competitive team that needs him or a team he fits on as a starting SF. He might end up having to be a 6th Man somewhere.

I could see Boston doing a Sheed for Jefferson S&T deal with the Spurs.

exactly, which is why it makes for a nice tradeable asset as the money would come off the books for whichever team trades for him after he officially declares retirement. He decided not to officially retire in order to help the Celtics out.

Everyone says they expect him to retire. The Celtics went ahead and grabbed JO anyways. It makes logical sense for Boston to move his contract to acquire a player who can help them, and I think thats what they're trying to do.

Sheed would have to work out a buyout with whatever team he is on in order to clear his salary off of their books. After he finishes his buyout, he becomes a Free Agent. He could file his retirement papers and sit out the entire 2010-2011 season like Jason Williams did in the 2008-2009 season or he can rest for 1/2 of the season and sign a minimum deal for a contender in January or February.

I think Sheed will work out a buyout after getting traded, and then rest up until like February. Pull a PJ Brown. It wouldn't shock me if he signed back up with Boston in February of 2011.

So you know what a New Kids On the Block album cover looks like?

anyways he should go to the Bucks or Clippers.

my sources say he is goin to re-sign with the spurs for cheaper and longer term.

but I believe his best chance is playing with the Knick, Suns, or Cavs

My best Chris Broussard impersonation

I think the Hornets could use a perimeter scorer. They definitely fit his style of play better.

He was just with the Bucks. They dont need him now that they acquired Corey Maggette.

Clippers sound possible. They'll probably give him $10 Million per year.

I hear Cleveland can use a SF. Spurs could take back a Delonte West & Jamario Moon and cap space.

Sign with the Clipe. That would work. They got some money they could throw at him

Who was the starting SF last year for Cleveland?

And the Trade would have made sense for SA if new York had not signed Felton.

Jefferson had a bad year last year, But the guys not bad and deserves more than the minimum. Plus he opted out knowing he would get less money cause he wants to be happy on the team. I respect that not being all about the cash.

Ticket 760 here in San Antonio already announced that RJ will be resigning and is headed back into town this week. Spurs will probably announce signings of Bonnoe,Jeffersonand Splitter Monday or Tuesday.

Wait. SO we can deal him for an asset (I think to PHX for Barbosa makes some sense). Then sign him again for the playoffs! I would do that in a heartbeat.
