CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bobcats have come to terms with forward Tyrus Thomas on a five-year, $40 million deal, ensuring the restricted free agent will stay in Charlotte.

Agent Brian Elfus told The Associated Press on Friday that the deal came together after Thomas received interest from other teams. The New Jersey Nets had presented Thomas with an offer sheet.

The Bobcats acquired Thomas in a trade deadline deal with Chicago in February. He averaged 10.1 points and 6.1 rebounds in 25 regular-season games with Charlotte and became the shot-blocker the team had been missing.

The Bobcats made a one-year, $6.2 million qualifying offer to Thomas last month to make him a restricted free agent. The Bobcats had made keeping Thomas an offseason priority.

What are the Nets doing?
If Prokhorov wants to win a title within five years then overpaying an average player is definitively not the way to go.

Thats because you tampered with his attributes. His rating went to 73 in the offseason, and he gets contract officers around $8-10 Million.

He got to around like 87 in one of my associations, and was averaging like 25 a game lol.

Are the Nets going to break their loss total from last year? I seriously think they're worse. Travis Outlaw, Lopez, a rook and a has been PG. Sad. That Russian is in over his head.

stupid team owners talking about potential lockout and a need to drastically lower the salaries!

and still they all are overpaying almost every player in the market!

Oh what an Irony!

You are right. The best thing for the NBA would be a better cap situation that makes it fair and even for everybody. But all these owners throwing money at midlevel players is going to skew the market big time heading into the new CBA.
