View Full Version : Is Erik Spoelstra the Luckiest Coach Ever?

Is he?

As far as experience as a head coach in the NBA he's limited but yet he's hand 3 of the top 15 players in the NBA.

It could be just as bad for him as good. He may be under serious criticism if the Heat doesn't win right away.

What do you guys think?

If he wins 3 hes gonna be in the HOF... truth be told, I could coach and still get that team to win 50

If they don't win a championship he's going to get canned faster than you can say "Miami Heat."

So we'll see.....

Luckiest? No. Unluckiest? Maybe, though I give that title to Doug Collins (who could very well be sitting where Jackson is now had the Bulls given him a little more faith). Riley is going to jump back onto the bench so fast it'll make your head spin and dude will be out of a job. He is the next SVG!!!!!

Just ask Stan how awesome it is to have a great roster and Riley as a boss. He'll let you know exactly how "lucky" he was.

I'll put him up in the Doc Rivers/ Mike Brown category--got lucky because he was surrounded with stars, but doesn't have a clue as to how to coach an NBA team.

I think he's the coach with the most pressure ever.

It took Doc Rivers one star in his prime (Tracy McGrady) to get into the playoffs. It took him THREE STARS to get out of the first round of the playoffs. I want you to look at his record in Boston before Pierce and Garnett and his record while he was in Orlando and convince ME that what I said was ridiculous.

Hell no because Riley is breathing down his neck and waiting to take his seat at the first sign of trouble. Having someone over your shoulder constantly is a *****.

Dude do you watch the man? Do you watch how he commanded those egos? Do you think Rondo's growth was by chance? Don't you think Doc had anything to do with that (Rondo widely credited Doc for his improvement). Doc though overrated is still a quality NBA coach. If you think he had nothing to do with the Celts success you're are being ridiculous.

Erik Spoelstra = the 1st Scapegoat.

The second scapegoats will be the other players on the team not named LeBron, Wade and Bosh.

No, his name is Phil Jackson. 11 rings and got to coach the likes of Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, Shaq, Pau and Morrison.

Without a doubt. Watch Miami go like 20-3 and all of a sudden, Splostra "misses his family".

Judge him on his entire body of work, not a three year span in which he was lucky to have three of the best NBA players:

1999-00 NBA ORL 82 41 41 .500
2000-01 NBA ORL 82 43 39 .524
2001-02 NBA ORL 82 44 38 .537
2002-03 NBA ORL 82 42 40 .512
2003-04 NBA ORL 11 1 10 .091
2004-05 NBA BOS 82 45 37 .549
2005-06 NBA BOS 82 33 49 .402
2006-07 NBA BOS 82 24 58 .293

2007-08 46 NBA BOS 82 66 16 .805
2008-09 47 NBA BOS 82 62 20 .756
2009-10 48 NBA BOS 82 50 32 .610

Where was his quality NBA coaching between 1999 and 2007? NON-EXISTANT

After T-Mac left Orlando and before Allen and Garnett came to Boston his record with Boston was TERRIBLE.

All of a sudden he has stars and he's a great/quality coach? Hell he couldn't do **** with Pierce before Allen and Garnett came in.

Sure he's lucky because he'll get to go on vacation for the rest of his contract for "family issues" and still get paid. He may go back to asst coach. I bet Riley had an agrrement with him in place if this actually happende.

The only player I probably have respect for on that team is Wade, because he got made Bosh and LeBron come off like *****es and join HIS team, pimp move.

As far as the question about the guy being the luckiest coach? Lets see, hmmmm do I really want to be a coach of 3 egotistical players of all the NBA after they will fail to win a championship? Nah I will pass, cuz you know once they dont win, theres just going to be blaming one person, Mr. Coach :)

I guess you cant blame the 3 for getting together, Wade needs to show them the way of being a champion, LeBron and Bosh were 'leaders' and never took blame for their team not winning. Anyways I am getting off topic, I am still a Raptors fan and never liked Bosh as our leader and am glad this has happend.

you made no point here whatsoever.... is Doc playing on the court with those players?

If thats your criteria for determine that he's no a good coach you are being ignorant. You completely ignore the fact that the teams he were coaching quite frankly weren't all that great. That doesn't mean to say he was never a good coach.

people cannot say phil jackson.. spoelstra is lucky.. i could be coach and the heat would be over .500... cause they are so talented when you have wade, bosh and lebron you barely even need coaching. however Spo may be the reason these guys dont win a title (i still think they will dont get me wrong) but if not a good coach is the difference between perennial contender and champion. But back to phil ya he always had great talent. but anyone who says he wasnt an excellent coach is a moron.
