Heat beat writer Michael Wallace said on Twitter Wednesday that Jermaine O'Neal is close to signing with the Celtics.

While the C's don't need anymore knee problems, O'Neal makes a heck of a lot more sense for them than Kwame Brown. Stay tuned.

Wow. That might be a big deal.

Wonder how JO and Perk are going to cope. I remember the two going at one another a couple of years back.

This makes a lot of sense with Perkins out & Sheed retiring.

The average age of the C's next season might end up being astronomical though.

Solid pickup, J0 is past his prime that's obvious, but he'll contribute nicely in Boston.

Very solid pickup. He isn't what he once was but Boston doesn't need him to be that kind of player.

I hate this pickup. JO will not try and I would bet he will be cut before season's end. I would rather have Brown (although i really don't want him either). At least Brown didn't turn in one of the worst playoff performances EVER like JO did.

Are they saying he is going to get the minimum?

I smell something much different, what I smell is lots of Bengay and Flexall in the Celtic locker room. Do they plan to start a wheelchair basketball team? What is the avergage age now without Rondo like 52? If Wallace decides to come back and not retire this would create one of the best teams ever assembled if it were in fact 1999.

Why would he not try when he's on a championship-caliber team? Your posts make absolutely no sense.

Wow if only this was the O'neal of old then it'd be a great move. His body just gave out on him though and I don't see him exploding on the scene and resurging with the Celts. He'll be a decent bench player until he gets hurt but I wouldn't expect great things. I think they could have gotten a better player or at the very least a younger one.

If I were a Celtcs fan, not sure I'd be a fan of another old player signing. Resign Pierce, then Allen, now close to O'neal. Need some youth.

I'm not saying it didn't, It's alright to have a bad series, but one of the worst in NBA history? I just really question this signing. o'neal was solid the first like what? 20 games of the season? since then really inconsistent, but I guess we'll see.

Him hyperextending his knee so late in the season certainly helped lead to the performance, and honestly Boston should be smart take advantage of it and get him cheap.

He's just gonna fill in for Perk in the first half. Then they'll rest him and get him ready for a solid 15-20 minutes per game in the playoffs. He just needs to play solid defense and use 6 fould to be a decent piece.

I don't think Perk will be up to full go until well into the 2011 season. I've never seen anyone come back that quickly and be more than a shell of themselves. If JO can remain healthy, it's a good signing. If not, the C's will be out of the running early. We'll have to wait and see.

07-08-2010, 12:32 AM
older, seriously? Sheed 35 gone. Michael Finley 37 gone. Jermaine 31 In.

A lot of JO problems against the Celtics were because of Perk. Till this day Perk's D remains under-appreciated.

I just think its Solid pickup for what was available. Good defender, and good rebounder. JO is still a capable scorer.

O'Neal would be a solid pick-up for the Celtics. They need an extra big with Perk out. Jermaine may not stretch out the defense like Sheed does, but he's still a solid defender and has a good low post game.

Great move for the Celts, hopefully he stays healthy. I still think the Celtics should have let Allen go and tried to start a small "re-building" period but they can definitely still compete. Even if LeBron goes to the Heat, the Celtics still match up incredibly well with them.

His per 36 numbers were 17/8 last year. His efficieny rating was 18. His Offensive rating was 108, while his defensive rating is 103. Good pickup if you ask me. He shouldn't get a big portion of MLE though
