The addition of free agent power forward Amar'e Stoudemire to the New York Knicks roster pretty much meant there wasn't much of a chance that free agent David Lee would be returning to the team. And now the Arizona Republic reports that Lee could end up being Stoudemire's replacement with the Phoenix Suns.

"We've talked to them for a quite awhile," Lee's agent told the paper. "There are so many things going on with David that it's hard to tell what will happen."
The team has already come to agreement with power forward Hakim Warrick and drafted power forwards Gard Lawal and Dwayne Collins this offseason.

I don't think Lee can completely replace Amare, but if they are able to sign him it would be a start. It would be interesting to see if they can compete at the level that they did to finish last season with Lee/Warrick essentially replacing Amare.

Now that would be a good system fit for Lee.

This would actually make Phoenix better in my opinion. David Lee's game has more dimensions than Amar'es.

Lee is a great rebounder, deceptively athletic, he can pass, shoot the 16 footer with moderate success, score in the post, move well without the ball and in the pick and roll. He isn't an exceptional on the ball defender, lack lateral quickness but his perpetual hustle makes up for it.

Stoudemire is more explosive, stronger and quicker. He is a better ball handler, but isn't a great passer. He also prefers facing his man up instead of playing with his back to the basket. He is a better player in the open court than Lee, but Lee has proven he can also play in a run and gun system last year. Amar'e isn't a great defender and for an athlete of his calibre, a piss poor rebounder and shotblocker. His jumper is slightly more consistent than Lee's however.

Lee is simply a more complete player and would help the Suns immensely.

Teaming Lee up with Stephen Curry, the Warriors are starting to look good. Now they need to trade Monta Ellis for a batch of valuable role players.

Unfortunately this is old news. I see no way NY trades Lee to us for no assets. They need to build their team and the Warriors trade makes the most sense.

Hes a really good fit for the suns. He has better passing skills than Amare (well Amare doesn't pass if hes 10 feet from the basket).
