View Full Version : Stan Van Gundy calls out Bosh

Lou Holtz Lisp

Is this a big rivalry in the making? Miami and Orlando? Will they battle for Eastern Conference championship yearly?

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy is known for being candid, but he was especially so on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Van Gundy opened up about the special ESPN will air on Thursday night as LeBron James announces where he'll play next season and other free-agent topics.

"It takes 15 seconds to say, 'I've decided to stay in Cleveland,' but we've got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to, what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don't do that enough," said Van Gundy, who will not watch the special.

Van Gundy added that he wasn't surprised to hear that Chris Bosh will join Dwyane Wade in Miami.

He said Bosh has been following Wade around "for two weeks like a lapdog."

Van Gundy added that while free agency has gotten out of control, guys like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant were still able to get contract extensions with little fanfare.

"It's gotten ridiculous I think. It's really I mean it's almost like a parody of itself this whole situation now," Van Gundy said.

"Look, the guy's a great player and wherever he goes, my bet would be Cleveland, that place will be excited. But an hour long special?"

The man tells it like it is, and he saw the stunt that all three were pulling from the beginning. They knew what they wanted to do in the free agency from the get-go, they just wanted to add more drama to a drama-less free agency. Save the drama for the basketball court, because that's where it counts.

^Lol just to let you know the Heat don't have the division on lock just because you got Wade and Bosh. They still need a couple solid players, a team of Bosh, Wade, Beasley, Chalmers and ?? isn't a 1st seed yet. Let's see what happens. I'd still consider the Magic the favorite in the southeast division right now.

Couldnt agree more, I couldnt believe there's an espn special just for Lebron's announcement, let alone it's the whole hour for it. We are not talking about a team press conference or anything like that. In fact, if he really wants spotlights, how about make a reality show about his daily workouts in the summer? The reason is I never think he works that hard in the summer as his game depends more on his god-given gifts, and he is known to focus more on his businesses. I'd be more interested if he can prove me wrong, even if he pretends to be hard-working.

Stan is just butthurt that he used his max contract offers on Rashard Lewis and Vince Carter, and did not wait for this summer. This is the biggest signing summer in sports history, due in most part to Lebron - so whether or not he has a "1 hour special" - ESPN and every other sports network is going to be dedicating hundreds of hours to this one moment, so if his team wants to dedicate on hour to the moment itself and donate the money to charity... sure, why not?

Every player he's attacking here - Lebron, Boozer, Bosh, etc. would have all made the Magic true contenders and possible favorites had he signed them over VC, so I can understand the seething disgust that he must be feeling right now seeing all this go down.

Did Kobe do **** without Gasol (post dominant Shaq)? Nope. Did Gasol do **** without Kobe? Nope. Did they become perennial contenders when they joined forces? Sure did. The Heat are a couple off-season steps away (tho' not guaranteed steps by any means, they absolutely don't need and possibly shouldn't even want Lebron. What they want is a strong defensive post presence and an outside shooter who can D. up... Ray Allen?) from being the Lakers of the east, don't kid yourself otherwise.

The Magic didn't sign VC, they traded for him, they signed Shard to a max deal and are still paying for it. Yes Lebron, Bosh or Boozer would make us instant title favs, but none were in the realm of possibility. Did you notice that Bosh went to Miami (big market), Boozer went to Chitown (big market) and Lebron is rumored to be going to NYC (HUGE market)? Orlando is one of the smallest markets in the league and even Dwight sounds like he wants out these days. Watching all of these FAs get so much hype and get on a contender has him envious, his twitter comments are very suspect and it sounds like he's leaning towards leaving via FA in 2012.

But to comment on your post, yes Stan is bitter, but he's right, in any other sport, the player's union would be all over this, but in the NBA it's all good.

You can't compare Kobe+Gasol to Wade+Bosh, Gasol is the total package big, Bosh has ways to go before this comparison can be made. If LBJ goes to NYC, it will give the Heat a lot of room to sign quality role players though.

This x 2,500 Sure the parody is a bit extreme but did Lebron cause this? No...The media caused it due to Lebrons not only basketball factor but economical factor on the city he goes to. All these guys implicate big $$$ due to their superior talent level.

Says the Laker fans who Happens to accidentally on purposely forget Kobe's antics when he went out and demanded a trade, and also calling the Center of his team a bum. Let's forget that though, because this (and every other thread to Laker fans) is a hate lebron/wade thread

1. I love D. Wade, always have.

2. "It takes pressure to create a diamond". And what big diamonds they are- I'm assuming you haven't seen the 2009 and 2010 championship rings.

3. If you had the chance to trade an injury prone guy who averaged 7 points and 6 rpg for a future hall of famer- and you management didn't do it- you might be inclined to call that guy a bum. Or are you above such criticism? Rhetorical question.

I agree with you. All this nonsense makes me like him even less. And kudos to Toronto for not agreeing to a sign-and-trade.

But I don't think having an hour long special was LeBron's doing, that's on ESPN doing it for the ratings.

No Lebron is also an attention whore. His camp thought of the idea and submitted it to ESPN.

No excuses for Bosh, he's been an attention whore with his own camera crew, twitter, etc.

Not trying to defend Bosh (as a raps fan) but he only made like 3 questionable tweets... and I don't see the hate for bosh and wade bringing a camera recording the process. Isn't it a good way to review what each team said at home?

Stan Van Gundy is a toolbag, but on this one he's right. I think he's just jealous that his team can't get any better. But as for these clowns during a time where economy sux, they make a mock of signing a new contract worth 80-100 million and Lebron needs sponsor money for charity. How about Lebron donates a few mil from his own pocket. A 1 hour televised meeting is a joke.

How could they when Rashard Lewis will be the 2nd highest paid player in the NBA next year (20.5 million), behind only Kobe. It's just insane that he's getting over 20 million.

The man tells it like it is, and he saw the stunt that all three were pulling from the beginning. They knew what they wanted to do in the free agency from the get-go, they just wanted to add more drama to a drama-less free agency. Save the drama for the basketball court, because that's where it counts.

I agree with SVG but I think only Bosh and Lebron are the real culprits Wade played the market but shouldnt of been any doubt that he would'nt resign considering wade has been saying all along I want to resign I just want an upgraded roster.

Every player he's attacking here - Lebron, Boozer, Bosh, etc. would have all made the Magic true contenders and possible favorites had he signed them over VC, so I can understand the seething disgust that he must be feeling right now seeing all this go down.

your posts are getting more and more predictable.

Why do people act as if Kobe is so much better than Wade? LOL cracks me up... Wade can be just as good if not better than Kobe on any given night... Kobe's had the luxury of being surrounded for most of his career by quality players... NOW it's Wades turn to prove he's the top dog..... You guys have just overlooked him because of the crappy cast that has been surrounding him...

All of you saw what he did to the celtics in game Game 5 of the playoffs by himself with none around him... Possibly the best performance of the 2010 playoffs.. So imagine now with Bosh and some nice quality players around what this man is going to do...

ARe you a miami fan? then

How many raptors game have u seen this season??? 3 maybe at the most. We have seen every strong poitn and weakness bosh has. So don't gimme all your garbage  . He has no defensive mindset, no passion to have a defensive mindset either. Now you think he's sooo good cuz he averaged 24/11 last year. lets see how many centers/pf averaged around that, david lee, al jefferson 2 years ago, Chris Kaman, all similar numbers.

Bosh is not going to get ran over by other pf's in the east one on one every night. He does not have weak side help defensive, he's not a good team defender, plus he is not a threat as a shotblocker. Josh smith/horfod/bogut/dwight/KG/Stoudamire, even guys like hibbert, bass, lopez, and hickson can all outpower bosh. Bosh has too weak of a frame to outmuscle these guys. People think david lee has no value because he is in D'antoni's system. Well newsflash, bosh played with a euro team, even less defensive minded than the knicks. Yeah you got bosh now, wait til you see him play for you next season and you can judge for your own.

But until then dont' gimme your  crap because you think he's a franchise player like wade and lebron. Oh yeah, maybe u should take this into consideration, bosh didn't even make all nba 3rd team. Just because a guy averages 20/10 on a ***** team doesn make him a superstar

bosh is 5x the player NOW as Lamar is NOW But don't forget lamar used to average 16/10/5 at one point in his career. yeah bosh has way better numbers than lamar now, but just you heat fans watch. I don't wish your team misfortune because I love wade and beasley. I bet sooo much money on your team this year because I beleived in wade so much. I'm just warning you NOT to expect as much as you heat fans are out of bosh.

Funny because I found this:

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy was more succinct, lauding Bosh as "one of the best forwards in basketball."

"I think they're instant contenders," Van Gundy said. "I don't think there's any doubt. They're instant contenders to win an NBA championship."

SVG is 100% right. It's become a joke. These guys have absolutely no idea how to carry themselves and handle their stardom. They're a bunch of immature, spoiled little brats. They've turned free agency into a whole spectacle, like a bunch of high school kids that are taking recruiting visits to see which program they want to commit to. It's one thing to explore your options so you can make the best decision for yourself and feel good about it. But it's a whole different deal when you stretch something out even though you already knew what you were gonna do a while back. They've made such a production out of everything, that it wouldn't have been a surprise at all to see them sit down at a table with a bunch of hats in front of them and put on the one with the team that they are joining, like those guys do at the Army/Under Armour All American games. That's how goofy they've made it. They're supposed to be professional athletes and they're supposed to be mature, but they're not, they're little kids with no parental supervision. They're just running wild and playing like little children. They're not professional at all. And that's why players like Kevin Durant will always be more respected than these clowns.

I'll take Kobe and KD vs. any two of those ding dongs from the East and I bet my guys win.
