Wow 5 year extension, great move by the Thunder, I was expecting 3 or 4 but 5 years is great.

It's smart on the Thunder's side but Durant could make more if he extended later

Great move by the Thunder. They can't be done though. Need to continue to build a team that can contend around him.

Nice

Durant is a classy player. I hope he completes his journey to becoming the next big superstar next year.

I also like Oklahoma's team a lot. All they need now is a legit big man.

i think they should target a heywood/anthony type and a mike miller.

beyond that this team is set at every position.

durant so far is the grounded supertalent that lebron is proving not to be.

Durant is one hell of a player, great move for Thunder... Durant's giving them the home town discount, which I respect.

Im surprised he isn't holding a 1-hour special on CBS where he would donate all of the proceeds to the oil spill in the gulf... sounds like a good idea to me.

Jeff Green, Westbrook, and Durant pretty much have the guard and wing spots filled for the next several years. If this team can find some big men and some rebounders, they are going to be very dangerous.

The team is set up to be great for years if all the young players stick around, which they most likely will because Durant is.

at the age of 26 he would be a free agent still young and deadly.

I'm pretty sure that he's the rare exception that does not care about dripping every last penny out of the team. He probably wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible (while still making enough to set him and his family up for life) to concentrate on his game and not have to worry about the circus that can come from a pending free agency.

The kid's a boss, and that's a great organization. I'll have no problem rooting them on in the playoffs as long (as they aren't playing my team) for the next half decade.

Good move by the Thunder signing him now rather then waiting it out and possibly having trouble later. Durant will no doubt lead that team to a championship someday so its best they keep him happy

Kevin Durant is the Patrick Willis of the NBA. Patrick Willis signed his 5 year extension 2 years before this contract was up, and now Durant is doing this. Love it.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant says he's reached a deal on a five-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

On his Twitter page Wednesday, Durant said that "God Is Great, me and my family came a long way."

Durant's agent, Aaron Goodwin, told ESPN.com's J.A. Adande the deal will be worth about $86 million over five years. The specific amount will be determined when the salary cap numbers are finalized on July 8, when Durant can officially sign the contract.

"Kevin wanted to make this commitment to the Thunder because he and his family are very appreciative of the commitment that the Thunder have made to him," Goodwin said of the five-year arrangement.

The deal does not contain an opt-out clause after the fourth season, which means Oklahoma City holds Durant's rights through the 2015-16 season. The new contract kicks in starting with the 2011-12 campaign.

"The Thunder showed the Durant family from the very beginning, at 11:01 [Central time] the first night, that they were committed to keeping him," Goodwin said, referring to the start of the free-agency period. "There were just a few legal things to work out. Kevin made it clear that he wanted to be in Oklahoma."

The team did not immediately confirm the deal.

The reigning NBA scoring leader is signed with the Thunder through next season under his original rookie contract, which would pay him about $5 million next year.

Oklahoma City, which is well under the salary cap, could offer Durant more than two times that much, depending on where the cap is set for next season.

Information from ESPN.com's J.A. Adande, ESPN.com NBA writer Marc Stein and The Associated Press was used in this report.

its funny. Durant and Kobe signed Extensions quietly with no need for fanfare. yet with bosh and lebrick, they decide to make a circus out of it. lebrick has even gone to the extent of hosting his own 1 hour show to decide his future.....what losers. they wish they were half as good as KB24

Allstar21
07-07-2010, 04:39 PM
wait....durant isn't lebron!

:P

i hope he is getting the max extension. Durant deserves every dollar of this contract
All they need is a quality defensive C and this team becomes #2 in the west in my opinion

Cole aldrich is a nice prospect

i wonder how much Portland are kicking themselves for taking Oden over Durant

man....
Roy and Durant would be killer

5 years, $17/yr is very good. I like how Thunder re-signed him b4 they went out signing other FA's believing their under the cap, and go fAR into luxury tax when they re-sign him. Now they can really see who they can sign.

It is huge news, but it was such a foregone conclusioon that he was coming back that it is still going to be overshadowed by the actual free agents who are changing hands.
