Free agent point guard Chris Duhon agreed to a four year, $15 million dollar contract with the Orlando Magic, his agent, Kevin Bradbury, told ESPN.com.

The 27-year-old Duhon was the starting point guard for the New York Knicks the last two seasons. He averaged 7.4 ppg and 5.6 apg last season for the Knicks.

The Magic currently only had one point guard, Jameer Nelson, on the roster.

Drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the second round of the 2004 NBA draft, Duhon has averaged 7.7 points and 5.6 assists in his six NBA seasons.

Chad Ford covers the NBA for ESPN Insider.

I will miss you, Chris Duhon.

I agree:clap::clap:He really held my Knicks down the past two seasons.

But I must say as of lately I have admired Otis Smith of the Orlando Magic and John Hammond of the Bucks. They continuously make small moves that can really help their respective teams.

Not terribly happy with this. He'll make for a good backup. He's a terrible scorer, but he is a good defender and a good passer. Definitely not my first choice...

That's most of our MLE too. So I doubt Barnes is coming back now :(

Well I'm happy we got our back up. Another former Duke player, maybe him and JJ can become best friends. Though....is Duhon better then Williams? I want some unbias opinions. I thought Williams was great for us last year. I think the only edge Duhon has over Williams is his defense and he's younger. What do you guys think?

the magic arent signing him to be a starter!!!! Geeze relax

He's a great back up and when hes a back up hes solid, stats show!!! Remember chicago?? Thats why NY payed him to be the starter!!! He had other offers to be a starter!! (This was b4 the Pg draft lol) bc he played so good as a back up,

Plus last year he had pretty much the same assist as Nelson!!

He did nothing as a starter so I don't see what he's going to do with less minutes. It's an awful signing, IMO. He dropped 2 APG and 4 PPG in NY from his stats the previous year, despite the bad team he was on, and despite starting both years. His FG% also dropped 5% and his FT% 14%!! Ouch! Yup, he's gonna make you guys a whole lot better.

You have to realize he's a "backup" I don't expect starter stats from the guy. As long as he comes in, plays good defense, knocks down a 3 or two I'll be happy. Williams is 36yrs old. We needed a back up pg and we got one w/ starter experience. Plus hes a better passer than Nelson. He avgs as many if not more assists in less min with alot less talent. I'll take it.

A solid bench player for Orlando for sure. Good move. Duhon has always been serviceable, he gets a lot of hate but its not his fault D'Antoni was stupid enough to start him over an allstar.

I don't know how many Knick games you watched last season but Duhon and his limited skill set were one of the main reasons we sucked. He can run the pick & roll but anything past that he looks lost/confused. He never takes responsibility for his mistakes yet is quick fast to accept praise for mediocre accomplishments.

ohreally
07-06-2010, 03:00 PM
I think Duhon will be a great pickup for the Magic, since he's a smart pg, makes smooth easy-catch passes, and doesn't turn the ball over much. No, he's not much of a scorer, but he is usually pretty good at the 3-pointer, and can make it from crazy distance.

He's not a great defender, but he's nowhere near as bad as my fellow Knick fans like to paint him as being. With better defenders around him, and less switching, I actually think he'll be decent enough, and he'll get some nice steals.

This past year was a zoo in New York, and it did seem to affect him most, and that just kept snowballing. I really think he'll return to his norm for 3-pointers and free throws. And he can get into the lane, he just doesn't push to score once he gets there unless he sees a clear hole. With the Knicks, once he got inside he had no one to pass to, since we even had Lee setting up outside, in Orlando, he will always have Dwight inside.

Nice pick up for the Magic, I think. And not a totally ludicrous contract, so his potential contribution is more than worth the risk.

I agree with this statement. However, Jameer's lack of size will haunt him his entire career. The fact that mediocre guards consistently put up career and season highs against him is a problem. And it's the reason Otis would trade Jameer in a heartbeat if it brought us an elite PG. Jameer would have been fine if he played just 15 or 20 years ago but in this day & age of basketball guards are much bigger.

I didn't expect Magic to sign a back-up PG. I thought they were going hard to try to trade for a pass-first PG via trade. I don't really like the signing to be honest, I thought Williams did a great job last season as a back-up PG for the Magic, and from what I hear from Knick fans, Duhon is awful.

Duhon is a decent passer in the pick and roll But Having him on the court feels like a 4 on 5 advantage for the other team.

You guys are way too hard on the guy. Just because he didnt put up huge numbers for a sorry behind Knicks team he gets continuously dissed? Jeez. He has always been a decent NBA point guard and thats all Orlando needs behind Nelson. He can't be any worse than Jwill was at times last year. The money might have been a bit much, but Im guessing he will fit into Orlando's system, which won 59 games, alot better than his game fit into NY. I dont feel like looking up NYK's wins last year. But I know it wasnt pretty.

NY endured him for 2 years and it almost killed everywhere. Orlando is doomed, Duhon is a plague that needs to be cured.

A backup PG won't be a plague for any team, especially not the Magic.

Good player off the bench, but it isn't a big sign.

Duhon is PURE garbage and lost about 15-20 games for us with his style of play. Good luck with that, Orlando.

I know Otis is a smart guy, and he wouldn't sign someone if he didn't think they'd do a good job. I'll just wait and see. I'm smelling a lot of haters. ;)

And Jason Williams is getting old. He already said he wanted more money, and we weren't willing to pay him. Some of the other FA's that we wanted were expensive too. Duhon was good on the Bulls, so I won't let a Knicks Organization/Fanbase tell me other-wise. David Lee is the best player on that team, for God's sake...Well, now it's Amar'e, but I think you catch the drift. He'll be fine on a successful team..;)

You mean the same Kobe who took out orlando Magics in the Finals ?

Duhon Will surely help you get eliminated in the playoffs That's all i can say. You think VC was bad in the playoff oh you have Know idea. Just giving you a warning since Duhon was our Starting PG.

A bit bitter?
What does Kobe have to do with the Orlando Magic?
Nothing, that's all.
It does have something to do with it, when he's saying Knicks fans cheered him on. Orlando's not even in that discussion.
I guess not getting to the Playoffs in 7 years, and not winning a Playoff series since 2000 hurts.

Nobody in the history of the NBA will ever be able to lose a team 15-20 games. Even 5, to be honest, is pushing it. TEAMS lose; not players.
