:D 3 allstars for a .500 team is pretty good. Wish romero made the team but 3 is pretty good still http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100704&content_id=11909888&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Alex Gonzalez and Ricky Romero are deserving as well.

Would have been nice to see Ricky as well, but can't be upset with 3. Well deserved.

These rosters are a complete joke. The best pitcher in baseball didn't make it (Liriano), but a guy that literally doesn't even have a starting job on his own team did (Infante). Shameful.

Not to mention the fact that the best AL SS (Gonzalez) isn't even there. This ASG is awful.

Fan voting is such a joke.

I'm glad to see the 3 make it. Gonzo should have made it but there will always be deserving players who don't get in (Toronto boy Joey Votto). Pitching is deep. I can understand our pitchers not getting in. Hope Bautista, Wells and Buck do well.

Omar Infante is the worst selection in history.

Fans shouldn't be allowed to vote and now the manager shouldn't either.

Lesson learned: The players are gonna make a selection or two just as bad if not worse than the fans would have made. (Weren't the reserves selected by polling the players?). I can't help but think they were confusing Infante with Prado (ballplayers generally aren't the brightest group) or something when voting, it's inexplicable otherwise how he's on the team. Bourn's a pretty awful choice too, any time a sub .700 OPS earns you a trip to the ASG you've gotta feel pretty lucky.

and as usual, I, and most of you, won't watch a minute of the game. I don't even know what day it is.

Happy that Buck made it. Hopefully he continues to make a case for getting traded for something good.

I can't believe Buck got voted in but Gonzalez didn't!!! I mean I am glad for the 3 that made it, but Gonzalez is having a foolish year for a SS. Leading the MAJORS for SS's in HR's and doubles, and leads the AL for SS's in RBI's and TB's as well. It is just an absolute disgrace that he isn't on that roster! Romero as been solid, but imo Gonzalez has been hands down the best SS in the AL over the first half....

Hands down? Jeter has scored more runs, has been better defensively, almost has the same amount of rbis and has a lot more SBs.

I agree completely - its a joke.

I couldn't believe Omar Infante was selected - I mean, really?? I thought for sure it was a typo... I STILL think its a typo :D

And how does Lirano not make it? I mean - really guys.... not to mention Joey Votto. HOW the hell does Infante get the nod but Votto with the best OBP in the LEAGUE doesn't get in?

Disgraceful

Infante wasn't voted in by the fans...that drunk Chucky Manuel selected him as a reserve. This is proof that managers can make worse mistakes than the fans sometimes.

Gonzalez has been the better player this year. I don't have any problem with Jeter starting, but to say he's been better defensively is just wrong. Also, he's got 9 steals on the year at a 75% clip, nice, but nothing to write home about.

Do you have some stats to back that up. Their fielding percentage is much different. I don't know where to get "range" stats and such.

Check out fangraphs. They've got a catch-all 'Fielding' stat on every player page's dashboard (it might be UZR, but it should be more descriptive). It says that Jeter is having a very good defensive season FOR HIM, but he's just been an average SS on D (costing his team about half a run so far). Gonzalez on the other hand has saved us 3 runs. Half a season worth of data can be quite misleading, but to this point I think it's fairly safe to say that Gonzalez has been at least slightly better defensively (and basically on par offensively, although he's getting slightly unlucky as compared to Jeter).

So I wouldn't say "hands down", but at the very least, Gonzalez has been as good as Jeter this year, and probably a smidge better.

If Vernon keeps this up, when does he have some trade value?
If he keeps up at this pace... Could be as soon as next years trade deadline IMO.

Why would anyone trade for Wells when they could sign a younger, better version of him for cheaper? Wells is still untradeable.

Wells will be competing in the home run derby.

nithanyo
07-06-2010, 11:09 PM
Are teams allowed to have two guys in the derby?? Bautista is also considering it.

Hopefully they dont hit the HR derby slump. Without those two im sure we would have atleast 10 less wins im sure

Bob_at_york
07-07-2010, 12:16 AM
what is wrong with having 10 less wins?

Wells in the home run contest just sounds like a bad idea.

Vernon keeps *what* up exactly?

He had a good April...and has been much worse ever since.

April 337/396/717
May 278/322/500
June 240/291/490
July 107/194/179

They way he is playing, there is no way he should be in the all-star game, and there is no way the team trades him.

IF he had that 1.000 OPS all year, someone may have taken that contract.

Good, this stupid game is done. Back to real baseball.
