Sorry for the cheesy title but Marlon Byrd has been announced as the Cubs sole representative at the 2010 All-Star game. Kinda surprised Silva isn't an All-Star though.

Announced via TBS.

And sorry if this doesn't deserve it's own thread.

Wow, that's really sad that Silva didn't get to go. I mean, he hasn't been one of the five best starters in the league but he is having a fantastic year and has been DAMN close to top ten in the NL.

Hendry flipping Bradley for an All Star and a near miss. There's a feather in his cap. I'm happy for Byrd.

I'm so glad someone caught that.

Anyone seen Home Movies? I went to a stand up show last night and the guy who plays the teacher, Mr. Lynch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyI2ZSovU00), was the MC. At the end of the show he hosted a dating show. The girl they had interviewing the three contestants was trashed. She fell off her stool, twice. Then they had her take a breathalyzer test on stage. She blew a .192, and then was dragged off the stage, screaming. Fun times.

Well, I'll eat my crow on Byrd (No pun) I hated the signing. I sure as hell trashed it when we picked him up. I was wrong. Congrats Marlon you absolutely have earned it  Pretty sure Marmsy will end up in Anaheim though. Too bad for Silva, woulda made the Bradley deal even sweeter.

My one question is how the **** does Evan Meek get in over McCutchen?

Actually, two questions. How the **** did Votto not get in?

Other than that, who really gives a ****?

I'm happy for Byrd. Good for him.

And what is Omar Infante doing on an All-Star team over the best player of a team leading a division (Votto)?

Probably because Jason Heyward made the roster, Pittsburgh needed someone and Meek has been awesome.

Pretty interesting when you compare Heyward's stats with Colvin's. Maybe if Colvin had gotten more playing time he could have been an all-star.

Great at bat forcing the walk.......could this be the year the Cubs have home field advantage in the World Series?

Yeah. Our players will feel much more comfortable watching the playoffs from their own clubhouse.

Some Byrd love (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-byrdortiz-play/):

It wasnít the most important play of the game, but Iím willing to bet that the play that generates the most talk around the baseball world will be this play, from the bottom of the 9th.

(Jonathan Broxton pitching) John Buck reached on fielderís choice to right (Fly). David Ortiz out at second.

In case you didnít see it, you can watch it here. Ortiz was waiting to see if Buckís short fly ball would drop. It did, and Byrd managed to field the ball on a hop and fire to second in time for the force out. A player with any sort of speed would have easily been safe, but Ortiz was out by a slim margin.

Instead of two runners on base and one out, the AL was in the undesirable situation of two men out with a two run deficit against possibly the best pitcher in baseball...

...Marlon Byrd deserves heaps of praise for coming up strong with the baseball and firing a near-perfect throw to second base.

Not gonna lie guys, I'm pretty sure Hideki Matsui's legs move slower than Prince Fielder and Big Papi's 40 year old drunken child's do. Well, if they were capable of creating a child. And then it was 40 years old and drunk.

But yeah, point is Matsui is the slowest person alive these days. He's had so many surgeries on his knees they are probably more metal than human at this point.
