View Full Version : Where will Allen Iverson sign?

Hes still out there as a FA.

If he is serious about taking a backup role, what team should sign him?

Lakers should give him a look as a backup SG to replace Shannon Brown. Iverson could elevate their 2nd unit.

He will not come back cuz his ego won't let him. But if he does, any playoff team would be lucky to have him coming off of the bench.

This.

It seems like AI thinks if he signs for a reserve role, that he'll spend the entire season playiing 10 minutes per game. If AI started putting up 20 points off the bench, he'll be a starter not too long afterwards or at worst 6th man playing crucial minutes.

He has to swallow his pride and do what it takes to show people he still has game.

If Phil & Kobe can tame Artest. They can tame AI.

Heat makes a lot of sense. They were interested last year before Memphis' money got in the way.

A lot of people hate this idea but Id love to see him back in Denver with a real PG (billups) to take a shot at winning. Afflalos style of play is more of that of a bench any way.

Guys like AI and Tmac won't sign until Lebron, Wade, Bosh are all inked so they can see where to help.

With that, I see AI signing with
Miami
Knicks
Boston
Spurs
LA

Great teams with strong player leaders and coaches (assuming NY gets one and Miami keeps theirs). AI is looking for a ring next year - don't expect him to sign with Wizards.

Swashcuff
07-03-2010, 08:24 PM
AI's most likely going to a potential contender looking to fill a back up role. He'd be a nice sparkplug for any team off their bench. And based on his play in philly last season it seems as if he's really learned and come to the realization that he's not an elite player in the league. I'm going to say Miami provide they get their big FA first.

Exactly. He will say all the right things until its time to do it. He said he would be willing to in Memphis. And after being injured all training camp and to start the season. he *****ed and complained after the 1st 3 damn games about not starting.

I was always a fan and never wanted to believe he was a team killer but he is. And he doesnt have the body to back it up anymore. The Grizz were 1-9 with him on our roster. And we ended up 40-42. Coincidence? I think not

C-Dub
07-03-2010, 10:30 PM
^ see thats what i think too, smith will be gone and they still one 50 games with AI and no good PG at all. Billups would control the game and AI can be AI. I like it. Plus if they get a big it really takes the pressure off him. When he retired before going to Philly last season Karl said they were talking about bringing AI back... maybe they should talk some more.. only after they get AJ or Bosh tho haha

Unless he will take a minimum contract....they he wouldnt be a terrible backup PG on a super team that is built (like Miami, Knicks, Nets)

PrettyBoyJ
07-04-2010, 12:36 AM
I think he needs an epiphany before he could come back to any team, he needs to realize that his days as that number 1 guy is over and realize he can still help a team being 3rd option or coming off the bench.. with a mindset like that so any teams would be knocking down his door.. might even get a contract like jason kidd

Didnt teams try this whole "maybe he'll accept a backup role" last season? How'd that exactly work out? He was miserable, moaned about not being a starter then retired. Dude's a cancer and the only reason I see a team signing him is 1) they actually believe he'll be content with a reserve role (I highly doubt he will be) and 2) sell tickets because of his name value.

Like Farmar, AI will not get the Triangle. His value comes from having a ball in his hand, and the Lakers need exactly the opposite. I think Fisher/Blake/Sasha would be enough. The Lakers need to bolster their wing position now. If a player of AI's caliber is what the Lakers want, they'd rather have T-mac, I believe.

Kakaroach

In 2008 (just 2yrs ago) Allen Iverson playing with Carmelo Anthony ranked in the top 3 in scoring, top 10 in steals and top 10 in assists, only Lebron had a comparable record. Who in his right mind would expect a #1 pick, rookie of the year, MVP, a league champion for 4 seasons and a perennial top 10 in 3 major categories (except for the last 2 yrs) to be a bench player ??? Iverson is a leading starter in the NBA, his record and performance say so.

Miami will not win a championship as they are constituted now. In the last 20 years or more, no team has won the nba championship without a player in his 30 playing a prominent role in the starting line up. A statistical fact !!!!!!!! Check it out !!!!!! Miami will not win it without a player like Iverson (The best in the world when healthy and in top form), or Shaq in the starting line up.

I am really rooting for an AI and Larry Brown reunion in Charlotte. I feel he would fit in very well there too. They need a scorer to complement Jackson and him and Augustine can share time at the point. A player like AI can help Charlotte make a serious jump to a more competitive team. I really hope it happens, it would be good for basketball.

Now that does make sense with Felton going to the Knicks.

PG-Iverson
SG-Jackson
SF-Wallace
PF-Thomas
C-Chandler

Thats a very well constructed team for a scorer like Iverson. He has a 2nd option with Jackson, and a 3rd option with Wallace but the key to this is a defensive oriented team. AI is going to take a lot of shots but this is what Charlotte needed in the Playoffs. They cant go anywhere unless they have an actual scorer.

More like the little POS that complained about practicing, failed to notify his coach when he was going to miss games due to illness, showed up late for fan appreciation night, and records hip-hop albums that are ignorant and promote violence. This man is owed nothing. He is the embodiment of everything that has been wrong with the NBA over the last 15 years.

The only chance he has in the league is with a team that has a strong willed coach as well as a leader that won't put up with of his "me first" bs. Even with those two things in place I would say the odds of him lasting more than 15 games are about 40/60.

Chicago. They need a shooting guard and will be legit contenders this year if he signs with them.

lol.

Iverson certainly wasn't a model citizen but citing his hip-hop albums that "promote violence" as one of the factors, now that's just dated and actually pretty funny.

Yeah Columbine happened because those kids were listening to too much darn Marylin Manson, give me a break...

I didn't say his album caused any deaths or made someone do anything wrong, I merely cited it because I feel the lyrical content of said album reflects his character. Character being a key component in deciding on whether or not you offer a man a contract, especially when it comes to veterans. Now given his views and past behavior is Iverson the type of guy you would want schooling your young players on how to behave in the NBA? My guess would be probably not, not unless you want to wreck your franchise for the next 2-3 seasons. The man is a cancer.

I would say Miami, but his ego might be too big to be on the bench and he could be a cancer.

Chicago would be a perfect place for him. He would be #3 on the chart but could become #1 if he has anything left in the tank.

I didn't even know he would get signed. So far only person that has even mentioned the possibility is Iverson. Not to mention his only mention was pleading for someone to take a chance.

He will not come back cuz his ego won't let him. But if he does, any playoff team would be lucky to have him coming off of the bench.

I just cant agree. The guy just doesnt make teams better. He just doesnt.

AI isn't a winner. He'll quit on the next team he joins eventually.

Kakaroach stop thinking that AI will come off the bench. He is not a bench player!!!!!! A healthy and top form Allen Iverson is the best in the NBA. He was a #1 pick and a rookie of the year (the best in his class (better than Kobe, Nash, Ray Allen, Marbury etc)), 4 times NBA scoring champion, several times NBA steals champion, and perennial top 10 (except in the last 2 years) in assists, steals and scoring, MVP (regular season and allstar), holds NBA record in number of steals in a playoff game and much, much more. Please let go your prejudices, hate and anger go, because they lead to poor judgement. He can easily regain his top form using modern technology. As for which team he should go to, he will fit in with any team. The problem is not the teams, but, the coach, therefore, he should look for the coach that he will work well with. He is a leading starter in the NBA!!!!!!!!!! Iverson won the Eastern conference championship in 2001, and several divisional championships. He is unequivocally a winner in the NBA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Iverson will get a team to the promised land, just surround him with the right pieces and he will do it. Ask great coaches as George Karl, Larry Brown, and Jim O'brien.
