"However, while Kobe's shooting wasn't so great, it's pretty easy to forget that he was playing with a severely injured right index finger, also known as the finger most important to shooting. When you remember that little factoid, making any shots with a completely retooled release is impressive. But that's Kobe Bryant for you — doing whatever he can to perform at a high level.

As it turns out, that dedication might have cost Kobe a finger. No, it's not like he's going to lose it, but it's definitely going to be a pain in the hand for the next 50 years of his life."

Look at his un-bandaged finger on this recent image in the World Cup. That right index knuckle is about twice as big as the other hand.

ugh...i knew he should have done it last summer. if this was anyone else id say we're doomed, but the guy is Kobe and he's already adjusted and if need be he'll adjust more. gotta love the mamba even if he was a bonehead for not gettin this surgery done sooner

wow. that freakin blows chunks if he ends up like that. He shouldnt of sacrificed his finger like that but, thats kobe. He's never given anything less nor has he ever made excuses because of an injury. Im afraid this time though, it might of cost him more then he bargained for.

nah, he'll be ok simply bc he's been playing with it for so long. we'll just have to cope with the fact that he wont score 81 pts ever again lol

He's already adjusted to playing with an injured finger and having teammates like the ones he has should make it into an easy transition since he doesn't have to do a lot.
