View Full Version : Who are your draft steals?

Stanley Robinson - how the HELL did he fall to the 59th pick? Robinson has first-round talent. He is arguably the best athlete in the entire draft and has the skill-set to be Shawn Marion 2.0. His jump shot also steadily improved in college. The Magic are going to be VERY happy with him.

Gani Lawal - Lawal is a guy who was projected by many to be a top 20 pick had he came out last season. This year, he somehow fell to Phoenix at number 46. The funny thing is, he led Georgia Tech in rebounding last season, beating out Derrick Favors, who was the third selection. This kid is going to be a good player.

James Anderson - I'm not sure how much of a "steal" he is considering he was drafted 20th, but he certainly has lottery pick talent. How do the Spurs always manage to get such good players given their generally shoddy draft position? What a front office they have.

Willie Warren - I guess the fact that he is a tweener was the main reason why he fell so far (#54 to the Clippers), but Warren is an extremely talented guard who can score in bunches.

Jarvis Varnado - yes, he's going to need to put on some weight, but this kid's defensive prowess cannot be overlooked. I could see him averaging two blocks per game in the pros. He has a ridiculous wingspan.

Devin Ebanks. I honestly thought he would've been drafted late 1st round, or early 2nd.

Lakers got one hell of a steal.

Whiteside does have a lot of potential and could end up being a great defensive threat.

Jarvis Varnado, Lance Stephenson and Devin Ebanks are other choices.

thats the point of the thread. Its who we think will have good nba career despite where they were drafted. Your right, we can't explain who's a steal and give hard evidence to back it up but this thread is more about our opinion than anything else.

i love the kings draft this year. whiteside and cousins added to tyreke and casspi i think can be pretty lethal in a few years. i also love dexter pittman and da'sean butler picks to the heat. and even tho he went 7 overall i think Greg monroe is goin to be an absolute beast. and the wizards getting john wall over the nets is probably the biggest steal of all

Hassan Whiteside at 33rd pick - Only problem is that Kings already have Dalembert/Cousins/Thompson/Landry, so Whiteside will be a benchwarmer. I wonder how they deal with ALL these big men.

Willie Warren at 54th pick - IMO, he'll be a great 6th man in the NBA.

Da'Sean Butler 2nd round - He'll be a great 3point shooter off the bench for any team.

billy17
06-27-2010, 06:32 PM
Whiteside is going to take some time so he really happened into the perfect situation.

This isnt the Kings team of old, theyre now very focused on development. I wouldnt be surprised to see him starting with Cousins down the line (at his full potential). Plus he makes the other bigs very tradable in the next year, depending on his progression.

My other steal would be Varnado

I'm not going to say who is the steal yet, because of reasons stated already. However, Paul George is probably going to be very, very good.

Also, there is no denying the Spurs did extremely well in this draft. James Anderson fell right into their laps, and he addresses a key need for them (sharp shooter). Then they were able to get Ryan Richards in the 2nd round. When the Spurs take someone from overseas you have to pay attention. I know PHO and HOU fans can agree with that...

I think Avery Bradley and James Anderson were the two best picks of the draft...

So I pick them.

Ebanks is an interesting player. He's all athleticism, but lacks a lot of refined skill. I loved watching him in college, but he won't amount to much in the NBA. There is a reason he fell from potential lottery, to second round. Lance Stephenson isn't going to be a good NBA player either IMO, so not a steal.

Robinson, Lawal, Terrico White and Whiteside were really good bargains, as well.

pd7631
06-28-2010, 02:41 AM
Whiteside. He was supposed to be a lottery pick, and the Kings were able to grab him in the 2nd round. Sort of the same situation as DeAndre Jordan a couple years ago. Jordan has put together some beastly games, he just hasn't been consistent, either due to PT or he just hasn't figured it out yet(not sure since I don't follow the Clippers), but he has loads of potential.

I have to be a homer and say Hassan Whiteside at #33 someone who was projected a lottery pick .. then a week from the draft a top 20 pick so if the Kings havn't had the most votes I don't know what they have to do to get them because the Kings basically didn't steal .. they should be charged with Burglary

As a Uconn alum that went to college during some of the Robinson years i can vouch for how incredible of an athlete he is. UN BELIEVABLE wat he can do. However he has motor and drive are really lacking.

It's kinda cool he lived in the same town that i live in now and during the season he would go to the same liquor store that i went to. He drove a hoooopty with 22s
The magic are a bad situation for him because he will sit behind pietrus and ryan anderson and never really get much playing time. I would have liked to see him go to the Celtics or the Hornets (with CP3). Robinson needs a guard that will constantly deliver him alley-ops to keep him engaged on the floor (especially offensively....Robinson will just sit on the baseline and not move for entire offensive possessions.....now i think this may have been a Calhoun problem because he is a terrible coach...just look at wat Rudy Gay did in college compared to what he has accomplished as a pro).

I don't know if Van Gundy is the right fit for him too. He doesn't need another angry, player dissing coach like Van Gundy is.

Steal of the draft...can i count Cousins going at number 5 a steal for the kings?....i guess that is a little to early for a "steal"

So i would have to say Willie Warren at number 54. He will never be a star but he can be one heck of backup PG/SG/bench spark. With some time he may be able to develop his passing and ball handling skills more and be a killer duo with eric gorden in a few years

Yeah, well that's kind of the point of making, you know, predictions? You could say the same thing about picking who is going to win the championship next season.
