Ryan Dempster (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=133225) vs Jason Vargas (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=450306)

95.2.......IP.......84.1
5-5......W-L.......5-2
3.67......ERA......2.88
89........K's.........53
34........BB's........22

Cubs: Dempster notched his ninth quality start in his last outing against the Athletics. He gave up two runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings, throwing 120 pitches. It's the fourth time he's thrown at least 120. Dempster also struck out seven as he won for the third time in his past five starts.
Mariners: If there's one complaint to have about Vargas this season, it's that high pitch counts often limit how far into games he can go. That wasn't an issue in his most recent start, in which he went 7 2/3 innings in a 2-1 win at St. Louis. That gave him 11 quality starts in 13 tries, tying him for sixth in the Majors, and he did it on 94 pitches with no walks.

Randy Wells (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=448694) vs Cliff Lee (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=424324)

78.2.......IP.......77.2
3-5......W-L.......5-3
4.92......ERA.....2.55
62.........K's.........67
20.......BB's.......4

Cubs: Wells got back on track in his last start. He held the A's to two runs on seven hits over seven innings. The problem in his previous starts was that he was falling off the rubber. A couple of side sessions, some work with pitching coach Larry Rothschild, advice from Greg Maddux and a good look at video helped Wells figure it out. Wells has never faced the Mariners.
Mariners: Lee was nothing short of brilliant in a 1-0 shutout win against the Reds on Friday. He worked out of trouble in the first and cruised the rest of the way. His ability to avoid walks has been a major key to his success, as he's issued just four free passes while dealing 67 strikeouts. Only three other pitchers since 1900 have tallied as many strikeouts with so few walks (Bret Saberhagen, Greg Maddux and Ben Sheets) in a 10-start period, and Lee's the only one to do it in his first 10 outings of the year.

2-6......W-L.......5-5
3.42......ERA.....3.39
50.........K's.........97
21.......BB's.......34

Cubs: CARLOS SILVA SCRATCHED FROM LINEUP ---- TED LILLY TO START ON THURSDAY.
Mariners: Hernandez has taken four of his past five starts through at least eight innings, and his most recent outing was his best yet. He followed up Cliff Lee's shutout with a one-run complete game, walking one and striking out nine. That was a point of pride for Hernandez, who wasn't happy about having to leave his previous start after 8 2/3 innings. To say the least, he and Lee make a formidable pair. There's just no telling how much longer it will last.

WHY NOT THIS YEAR!?!?!

Apparently. Look at the 3 pitchers we're facing. Very nice numbers, yet only 28 wins for the team.

Either their bullpen blows or their offense is horrible.

there offense does blow, Ichiro is all they have...

still though I don't like are chances in this series, we have to win tonight if we want to win the series because I don't see the Cubs beating both Lee and King Felix on back to back days.

I like the Cubs chances for some reason. Our starting pitching has been good and Seattle's offense blows. Hopefully we win tonight and steal 1 against either Lee or Felix. Seattle's bullpen blows so hopefully we can get to it. I say we take 2/3

I'm just hoping for a fight. Cubs can sweep or get swept....I just want dirt to be kicked and punches to be thrown.

I'd prefer if it was Silva VS Bradley just for the fun of it.

But if it's zambrano vs Lou....then that's fine

Never watched 30 on 30. Don't even know what the hell it is

Documentary series on ESPN focusing on 30 sports stories that defined the 30 years that the network has been in existence. Tonight's was about the murder of Colombian soccer player Andres Escobar who was killed after giving up his own goal in the 1994 World Cup -- as well as focusing on Pablo Escobar's connection to soccer in Colombia

Some other great episodes were about Reggie Miller's dominance over the Knicks, the Miami Hurricanes during their hey-day, and OJ's low speed chase as a bunch of other sports events were going on (NY Rangers victory parade, Arnold Palmer's last golf tournament, NBA Finals).

There's going to be one on Bartman in a few months. I don't know whether or not to look forward to it or not because it's going to be depressing, but they have almost all been extremely well-done.

I actually am looking more forward to 2011 than either 2009 or certainly this season. Why? Because one way or another, there will be new blood here, and much more of it younger. I've sen this movie before with the offense, in 2007, 2009, and now 2010.

Assuming we go younger I probably will follow the team just as much, but not get as pissed if we lose. However the guys that matter like Jackson and Vitters probably won't be ready until 2012 at the earliest. Cashner and Castro are probably worth watching. Have the endless non-rebuilding, toss money around years really worked? I'm sorry, but 2003 was the only legitimate shot we've had in my lifetime of the Series after 1984 and we fell short.

You make deals with current vets to bring in specs and more youth. This is not all about this coming from within nor is it a total facelift ala the Marlins. And I'll bet you right now Tony Thomas has a better shot of seeing this view than Barney ever will, and TT is a way long shot. Vitters is not going to be ready in 2011.
