NEW YORK -- Television ratings for Game 6 of the NBA Finals were down from the last one between the Lakers and Celtics, which was also a blowout but crowned a champion.

Los Angeles' 89-67 victory Tuesday on ABC drew a 12.3 overnight rating, down 4 percent from the 12.8 for Boston's lopsided clinching victory in 2008. This time there will be a rare Game 7 -- just the third in 22 years -- and the chance for a big rating on Thursday.

The last non-clinching Game 6, Pistons-Spurs in 2005, earned a 10.5 -- 15 percent lower than Tuesday's game.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Overnight ratings measure the country's largest markets.

Not suprising considering it was a blowout from the get go. I'm sure alot of your fairwheather NBA fans changed it by halftime.

And plus, it was most likely for Boston to close out on their home floor in '08 as opposed to on the Lakers home floor in 2010, so fans had an idea that there would eventually be a game 7 in LA.

Next game for sure will blow the ratings off the roof. Hopefully, with an LA celebration. That's all I can hope for. :)

I think the World Cup has something to do with it. I expect record numbers for game 7, though.

every body and their mothers knew there would be a game 7.

So why watch if you are not a fan of one of the teams?

I don't think so, the World Cup goes on in the morning (California) and the Finals in the evening.

Yeah, the fact that the game was a blowout had a lot to do with it.

No other reason than it wasn't interesting.

It was a blow-out after all. Only reason it was lower than 2008 was because the Celtics clinched the ship that game.
