Game 5 of the NBA finals drew its highest preliminary television rating since 2004.

The Boston Celtics' 92-86 victory over the Lakers on Sunday night on ABC drew a 12.8 overnight rating. That's up 36 percent from the 9.4 for last year's Orlando-LA Game 5.

This series has been drawing higher ratings than the Celtics-Lakers matchup in 2008. The numbers have been the best since the Detroit-LA series six years ago. Game 5 that year earned a 15.5 overnight rating.

Ratings measure the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Overnight ratings represent the country's largest markets

IMO best series since Lakers-Kings this decade. Not surprised at the ratings at all.

I'm very surprised the Pistons-Lakers series had a better game five rating.

So? This is Celtics-Lakers. And it had nothing to do with wanting to see Shaq and everything to do with people wanting to see Detroit pull off the upset.

Any modern Celtics-Lakers matchup could not compare to the 3-peat Lakers in terms of ratings. Plus, the NBA Finals at the time of 00, 01 and 02 was on NBC. That was the premier network.

Stop complaining in every thread.

Whats up with everyone saying it will go 7 and that Stern will make it?

Had the Lakers won last night the very same people would say Lakers close it out tomorrow night not that it would go 7.

I hope this goes 7. I'm a little nervous but hopefully the Lakers can pull it out. I really hope they can pull off a win to push it to 7 that would be epic

I'm very surprised the Pistons-Lakers series had a better game five rating.

I'm not. Once the Pistons took game 1, everyone wanted to see if the impossible would happen where a team with no top 20 players in the league would be a team with two top 5 players in the league and 4 top 30 players all time without HCA.

Is that your excuse for Paus poor play?

I'm very surprised the Pistons-Lakers series had a better game five rating.

everyone wanted to see that one because of the storyline set up.see if the underdog pistons(who were trumpeted as what teams should be.no prima donnas, hardworking, teamwork, ect.) could beat the lakers(cast as basically everything wrong with modern sports/athletes.bickering,starpower/ego driven, selfish, ect.)
