Kentucky guard John Wall, the projected No. 1 pick in June’s NBA draft, has reached an endorsement agreement with Reebok worth $25 million over five years, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

Reebok made an immense investment with the charismatic and explosive guard, believing that Wall can replace Allen Iverson(notes) as the brand’s superstar. Wall’s reps, Dan Fegan of Lagardere Unlimited and Brian Clifton of Pindar Enterprises, negotiated a rare two guaranteed signature shoes for Wall.

The deal exceeds what most industry insiders believed even Wall, a spectacular talent, could get in this marketplace. In the declining economy, shoe companies have become more judicious about handing out such big guaranteed deals to rookies. The No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin(notes), was reported to have signed for $400,000 annually with Nike. Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings(notes) had a more lucrative deal with Under Armour that he signed out of high school, worth approximately $2 million over four years.

Reebok and Fegan were moving toward a signed agreement on Wednesday night, sources said.

Reebok’s bid for Wall beat overtures by Nike and Under Armour, sources said.

It didn’t hurt Wall’s marketability that the big market Washington Wizards won the draft lottery and have the No. 1 overall pick. He’s expected to be the centerpiece of the franchise’s rebuilding process.

Spit in the face of the evil empire aka Nike. Im shocked, and I love Nike

The new answer of Reebok?

Another interesting fact, Wall is expected to earn $5 million a year from the endorsement. Blake Griffin, last years first overall pick, earns $500,000, 10 times less than Wall.

Cool, I really didn't want to see yet another kid get raped by Nike. I am all for competition. Brandon Jennings signed with UA, and I must say his shoes looked pretty sick. Good move by Wall, he is now the face of Reebok.

LOL..exactly what I was thinking. Other #1 picks have had no hype close to a high school LeBron. He already was a superstar in high school, so that makes sense.

Wouldn't be surprised if they offered much more than Nike. Wall is a bit of a risk, he could bomb out and the endorsement goes up in flames.

believe it or not.. there is. especially idiot fans who buy the shoes for collection purposes.. without using it. They tried (still trying) to get richer by having them in the box for who knows how many years w/o wearing them then.. at the end, they'd probably get $1000 more after years of taking care of it.

WTF?? Seriously?? It's that expensive? Last time I saw one it was on sale for $3. Clearance baby! lmao. I have no idea how they make money.. seriously.. is there a limited edition we don't know about?

Maybe he's trying to make a statement.

Reebok has pretty much died when we're talking about Basketball shoe, maybe his thinks he can bring it back up.

that will be very difficult. Nike has been the ruler of basketball for quite some time now. Even a player with as much hype as John Wall does might not even make a scratch.

IMO, when i think of nike, i think of basketball. When i think of Reebok, i think of Baseball or Soccer.

Soccer? :eyebrow:

Even when it comes to soccer its Adidas and Nike, Imo. Reebok doesn't have the star power those two brands have.

They do have some big name NFL player; Peyton Manning, Ochocinco, Eli Manning and some NHL players as well; Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Pavel Datsyuk , Brodeur.

Come to think of it, Reebok's big athletes maybe hockey.

If J.Wall is successful the adidas company will just swap his contract over from Reebok to adidas. If he's not, they'll let it expire. At least it gives adidas the option to move him up to the main brand if he does well. Wall seems to me like a Nike guy, Turner seems like an adidas guy. I bet Turner signs with Nike.

Marketable in Italy does not translate to marketable in the U.S. And why am I not suprised that a die hard Knick fan responded to my post
