Celts need 2 out of 3 to have a chance in this series (I would be shocked of they got all 3). I think they need to make sure one of those wins comes in game 5. If they get game 5 after taking either 3 or 4, they would have the momentum going into game 6.

I don't think it comes down to this game in particular. I see one team taking two out of 3 - I think that team wins the series.

Should be interesting to see who comes out and is going to want it more. The Celtics in their first game at home or the Lakers coming off of a loss.

we should know in the first minute of the game how the game is being officiated. soft or not at least in LA it was equally bad. hopefully that equality carries over in boston even if its swallowing the whistle. hopefully they swallow that whistle.

I'm really curious to see how Bynum is going to hold up in this next game. I figured he'd come out strong in the first two being that they had so many days off for him to recover, but going into game 3 with only a days rest (travel, at that) and having logged a lot of minutes in the series already, I think this is where his knees begin to fold on him.

I think the Celtics take this game, possibly lose 4, and take 5.

As most said already, this game is very important. I think this will be a defensive game, because every game in the playoffs where the Lakers felt they didnt have a good defensive effort, they came out stopping people the next and I dont see any difference here. basktball is a game of runs and who can sustain the punch in the mouth? The Lakers are gonna pay close attention to Ray Allen, because he was a very big reason they got the win.

Celtics take game three. One of Garnett or Pierce is going to have to step up tonight after their terrible game two performances. I also expect a huge game off of the bench for Nate Robinson.

Also, as someone else said, I'm curious to see if Gasol and Bynum can keep up their intensity on the road.

If the Celtics win this series, that will give the "formula" for championship teams in the past 10 years:

1 more check for good defensive teams win championships
1 more check for having "stars" wins championships
1 less check for Hall of Fame coaches win championships
1 more check for having a very good starting point guard wins championships
1 more check for having a combination of a reliable post scorer and a scoring wing wins championships

If the Lakers win:
1 more check for HoF coaches win championships
1 more check for good defensive teams win championships
1 more check for having "stars" wins championships
1 more check for having a combination of a reliable post scorer and a scoring wing wins championships
1 more check for having a very good starting point guard wins championships

Before I thought that in general, you would need a HoF caliber coach looking back at the past champions in the last ten (all except for the Celtics), multiple "star caliber" players (all except for Detroit), and a very good defensive team.

What else should be included as a trait of a championship team?

I think C's take 2 of 3.

I felt for the C's to win this series they needed to split in LA. I felt LA needed to get both games in LA to win.

My original pick was C's in 6 (which hasn't changed), but I was worried that if LA got game 1 that they would take the 2nd as well, so I liked the winner of game 1 to take it as a result.

But with the Celtics showing that kind of resolve and lighting it up in game 2 for the split, I still think it's their series to lose at this point.

Derek Fisher a "very good starting PG"? He fits their team nicely, but relative to the league competition would fall under "very mediocre" at best.

I think there are many different formulas for victory, but teams with a top tier defense, strong bigs and an ultra talented wing scorer seem to be perennial finals contenders [which is why most people agree that OKC is a strong post presence away from being a championship contender. I'd agree w/ that.].

The disparity in the Lakers bigs over the Celtics bigs is what's making this series so interesting. It's just a matter of whether Rondo/Allen/Pierce are enough better than Fisher/Kobe/Artest to accrue for the dominance of Pau/Bynum over KG/Perkins. This is why it's so important to the Lakers that Bynum is 100% over the next 3 games if they want a chance at this. Either that, or Odom needs to come out of whatever secret protection home they have him locked down at. Guy has been a ghost.

Everyone was saying whoever wins game 1 wins the series. So I don't think the winner of game 3 wins the series. It the Celtics win game 3, it'll be an easier road for them to win it all since they'll have 2 straight remaining games at home. If the Lakers lose, it'll be tough, but not impossible to overcome.

L.A has to win game 3 to put pressure on BOS to win the next 2.

oops sorry about that. I was just copying and pasting from the first part since I didn't want to type it out again. I did mean 1 less. He fit that category earlier in his career but not now.

Hah - As much speculating as some of us might want to do, this is really the only correct response. Both teams have too many game changers on any given night to know wth is going to happen with even a modicum of certainty. That's why I love this finals matchup.

If the Lakers want to win (which they do) our frontcourt needs to show up once again. We can't have our frontcourt have a bad game while our backcourt has a good game. It has to be a total team effort and Lamar needs to make an impact tonight.

Since the 2-3-2 format it has been tied 10 times going into game 3 and the winner of game 3 is 10 and 0 on winning the championship...... on that note go CELTICS

Hopefully its a good game not controlled by the refs. First two games besides parts of the 3rd and 4th quarters in game 2 have been pretty awful to watch and probably annoying to play.

I think someone stated that there has been over a foul a minute in this game... that's hideous.

Pierce was talking a lot for having no impact in that game 2. This series is coming back to L.A whether its L.A 3-2 or C's 3-2. The Lakers are not going to lose these 3 in Boston, that would be 4 straight defeats:facepalm:. The Lakers bigs are all waaaaaaaaaay better than Boston. This series is going 7..........tonight is just 1 more game. I hate to say it but I see the C's winning this game in front of their home crowd. If Kobe wants 15 assists he can get it pumping it in the post. Boston can't stop Bynum/Gasol, and if Odom decides he wants to get involved in this series than its over for the ugly green real quick.

Cause peeps in the West Coast are more important: What you going to start a game @ 7:00pm ect that would be 4 on the West coast. Most peeps aren't off work, the ratings would suck. Sucks for Eastern times but at least they know most people are home at 6pm on west coast and 9pm on the east coast. Only smart way possible.

God I hate when Fisher manipulates the refs and it works. Biggest actor in the NBA. I'd be happy if I were a Lakers fan, but it is just lame.

There were at least 4 flops (siome from both teams) that the refs rewarded in games 1 and 2. It's one thing to call games tight, but they shouldn't gift players for being pansies.

Word. Allen on Kobe followed by Fisher on Allen back to back was just horrible. Have to let those slide, or else we get games like we've had where marquee players are sitting out too many minutes.

I really thought this would have been addressed by the league after game 2. Let's go zebras, let 'em play.

refs have let them play a little more. but considering they called anything a foul its not much of an improvement but at least its good. the rondo foul on kobe was legit, hit the elbow. the perkins play wasnt. celtics are notorious for their moving screens but ive seen worse than that. other than that everything has been fine. maybe artests first foul could be seen as soft but thats it
