What do you think the celtics are going to do with Ray Allen. If we do resign him how much do you think the contract would be worth. If we do not resign Allen it would free up $18,776,860 from last years salary. Who do you think we will pick up instead of Allen.

I'd imagine you were over the cap this year. So just because Allen had an 18 million dollar salary, it wouldn't necesarily mean you'd have that much to spend on other free agents.

^wed still have 0 cap space... even if pierce opts out and takes half of wat hes making and allen comes back for half of wat hes making the celts will still have 0 cap space.. the only way we get cap space is if only one of ray and paul come back for less money or both leave

Before I thought Ray was leaving for sure cuz I thought Boston would be out in the 2nd round, but now I think they have to keep him. He's too important to the team.

Well, if the C's win...I don't see why he wouldn't stay.

...but if they lose, I'm sure he'll have a talk with Lebron & Wade.

Hopefuly gone - time to start a rebuild. If he takes 1 year fine. We need to let Ray and Pierce go next year and get Melo.

win at least 1 more ring; resign for less money; set new record for all time three pointers made; retire as a Celtic and check in to the Hall of Fame

i think he should come back to the celtics for a MLE type of deal (3 year 20M). I don't think it's time for the celtics to rebuild, and I don't think they have the pieces to make a drastic move for a younger SG. They should milk whatever they can get out of pierce, allen and garnett, and in like 2 years, look at rebuilding.

Yeah if they don't have cap space , than the best thing to do would be to retain Allen for a smaller salary because him and Pierce are the only players they can go over the cap to sign.

That being said , Why can't Boston fans just enjoy their run ?

I think he will stay now. If the C's lost in round 2 he would probably leave.

No doubt I think he stays. He will have to take a big pay-cut but he is the kind of the guy that would stay.

It all depends on what happens in the finals and how everyone plays.
In the end, you still shouldn't trade the best shooter of the decade when your team was good enough to get to the finals 2 out of the past 3 seasons.
He hits their biggest shots for them, most of them 3s. And that's invaluable.
They just need to draft seniors out of college who can relieve these guys (Allen, Pierce) and extend their careers, while passing the knowledge on to the rooks.

haha this is hilarious...allen and PP resign, if celtics lose do they get the 19th pick or the 2nd last one? if it's the 19th they could grab a decent young guard such as a xavier henry....

Its Rays last contract, if someone offered him a nice 3-4 year contract he will leave. I dont think any player in the NBA gives a home town discount. especially when the Celtics shopped him around at the deadline. I dont think Ray has anything else to prove.

Pierce won't opt out, and KG has 2 years left, Sheed has a year left. Which bassically means the Celtics money is tied up. Whatever will be out there in FA, they can't afford. And what they can afford won't be better than Ray. And Ray is unlikely to get too many lucrative offers. So regardless of what happens in the finals, it just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me for either side to think that Ray coming back wouldn't be in everybodies best interest.

imo,
he'll sign with the celtics for the minimum

They see how things go next season. If they think they don't have another run left with this team, they move Allen's valuable expiring to a rebuilding team looking to unload a long term deal...Iggy, Monta type guys. They may even be able to get Allen back for a longer MLE contract...5 years at the full amount. He may take less money for more years. This way they get a major piece to replace Allen long term but may even be able to retain him in a more limited role.

i don't know if a lot of the recent celtics fans know about bird rights. But your right. Ray allen doesnt have enough time left to sign with another team. they are the big 3 and they will all finish their careers as celtics.

Who do you think we will pick up instead of Allen.the celts have a lot of options first if they win the title I thnk they keep Ray at a lower price. If they lose I think they will go in another direction Ray on the other hand will go to a team that has a chance to win right now I think he follows the big free agents if Bron and Bosh go to chicago I can see Ray going there. I can also see Ray in the Lakers, Suns and or Spurs Ray's choice of teams will be to a solid contender unless someone wants to max him

Ray Allen did a lot for the Celtics. He played big in the playoffs this year and has been solid all year. I dont know if I would be so quick to just let him walk like that.

This type of talk should be after the finals anyway.

Super.

He's gonna end his career in Boston, whether he wins a championship or not. I believe the Big Three will stay in Boston until they decide to retire.

I could even see Ray Allen going to Cleveland. It needs a shooting guard who can make threes and take big-shot pressure off of LeBron.

Ray Stays on a 2-year deal... KG expires in 2 years... both retire. Pierce plays 2-3 more years at least.

Then we bring in Durant :)

He's returning to Milwaukee. We should have never let him go. Thanks George Karl. We get rid of Michael Redd. Boston do you want him. Allen will retire as a Buck.

Jennings and Allen in the back court.

The C's cannot sign any FA's this summer because they have no cap space (assuming that Pierce or Garnett is not traded). Ray can be retained because of the Larry Bird rights. They would be stupid not to resign him unless he gets a huge offer from another team.

PrettyBoyJ

if they he signs for less then he stays.. but I think the decision will be based on whether they win the championship

You should learn a little more about salary caps before you post a thread man.

Why do you say it like that?

Ray Allen's contract is up.
His $18 milllion salary IS coming off the books.
Should Ray leave, there are ways to replace him.

Trade, Mid-Level Exception, ETC.
