Randy Wells vs Chris Carpenter
56.1 IP 67.0

3-2 W-L 5-1

3.99 ERA 3.09

45 K's 61

11 BB's 18

Randy Wells: Wells did not get a decision in his last start against the Rangers but had a stellar outing. He gave up three runs on seven hits and went 8 1/3 innings, his longest outing of the year. Wells also struck out six. He's learning -- he was able to work quickly, get ahead of batters and the only mistakes were two pitches, which Vladimir Guerrero and Nelson Cruz both launched out of the Ballpark at Arlington.

Chris Carpenter: Carpenter was let off the hook in his last start after allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits over six innings against Anaheim. The team rallied for an extra-inning victory on a walk-off hit by Felipe Lopez, thus removing Carpenter from the decision. Two home runs spoiled Carpenter's outing, although he said afterward that his command felt good. He walked two and struck out four and has surrendered nine home runs so far this season after giving up only seven all of last year.

Carlos "Killer Whale" Silva vs To be announced
53.2 IP

6-0 W-L

3.52 ERA

31 K's

11 BB's

Carlos Silva: Silva is off to his best start ever at 6-0. He picked up his last win over the Rangers, giving up three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. It was a short start, primarily because of the heat and humidity. The more Silva wins, the more confident he gets. He's already picked up more "W's" in his first nine starts than he did in 34 starts the last two years with Seattle.

Ryan Dempster vs To be announced
70.2 IP

3-4 W-L

3.31 ERA

65 K's

22 BB's

Ryan Dempster: Dempster will close the Cubs' six-game homestand and hopes to end the way he started it. Last Tuesday, he threw eight shutout innings and snapped a personal four-game losing streak in the Cubs' 3-0 win over the Dodgers. Dempster was able to avoid the one bad inning that has snuck up on him this season. Last year, he was 0-1 with a 3.33 ERA in four starts against the Cardinals. He's 6-6 with a 4.35 ERA in his career against St. Louis.

Game 1 will be big. If we can get a win vs Carpenter, we should have a good shot at a schweep.

Can't believe it's damn near June and we're just now seeing StL for the first time.

Not to sound like a troll, but I do think our offense will be better. The last two nights we couldn't hit the side of a barn, and tonight Ryan went 4-for-5 and Albert had 3 RBI (he hadn't had any for 11 games). I think it changed the whole mood and momentum of the team.

That said, a series with the Cubs is never easy, especially at Wrigley. It's also be interesting to see what Ottavino does in his ML debut.

I think the Cards offense will be better, for the simple fact that it just couldn't get any worse. But I think a lot of people overrated the Cardinals offense to start the season. I am friends with a bunch of Cards fans and they all had these unrealistic expectations for guys like Holliday and Ryan. They were expecting Holliday to hit like he did the 2nd half of the season last year, all year this year.

Brendan Ryan IMO just will never be that good of a hitter. He is a great defender, but offensively he will never be one to impress. He obviously isn't as bad as he has shown this year so far though.

Disappointing attempts at IGT's by the late May call-ups.

I don't like the "safe" approach that both used to be honsest. Looks too much like the others and we all know how those worked out. I want to see scrappiness, something out of the typical mold.

Lucky for us YNH carried us without the total dependency of the IGT itself. Can Ron!n do the same?

Guess we will find out soon enough.

So, one of the guys in the office here has given me a lot of grief over the past month or so about how bad the Cubs suck, blah blah blah. He himself is a huge Cardinals fan to the point of being obnoxious. He has his heart set on listening to the game on the radio today when it comes on. He has already ordered pizza to be delivered here and brought in some snack foods.

Time for BDawk to take off the kids gloves and make this son of a ***** sorry for all the angst he has caused. Time to come up with reasons to keep him occupied and out of the office so he can't enjoy the game. I am open to suggestions.

Hide the radio?

If he uses the computer try this:

"The Fake Desktop" Prank is a classic and quite easy to set up. Most people will have a heck of a hard time figuring out what's going on, though. The point of this prank is to fool the victim into thinking their desktop is something it's not. This can be just about anything: a screenshot of their real desktop, a program, a web page, you name it. They all work thanks to Windows' wallpaper. If this prank is pulled off successfully, the victim will try to click icons to no avail, or try to close programs that are not even open. You can even hide the Start menu but leave its image to really confuse them.

Process for setting up this prank:
1) Take a screenshot of the "fake desktop" using the Print Screen key. This fake desktop can be the original desktop (makes a good prank), the desktop with a program open, etc.
2) Open Microsoft Paint
3) Choose Edit, Paste (or hit CTRL-V).
4) Make any changes desired then choose File, Save As...
5) Click the My Computer icon on the left, choose Local Disk (C:), then Windows. Change the filename if you want then save the image.
6) Close the program and right click the desktop. Choose Properties.
7) Click the Desktop tab at the top.
8) Find the image you saved by name in the list. If you can't see it, click Browse and find it. Choose OK once you've completed this. The fake desktop is now in place.

Yeah but if a guy is struggling I think you need to sit him for a day. I mean the kid is 20 he needs a day off every now and again. I understand Lou wants to put the best team out there vs the Cardinals but that last thing we need is for Castro to start pressing, because we don't need to ruin another prospect.

At least Lou is hitting him down in the order again.

He has a 1.032 OPS out of the 8th spot and elsewhere its below 650.

Aramis Ramirez was back in the Cubs lineup Friday, his first start since last Saturday in Texas. The third baseman has been bothered by a sore left thumb. Also, Jeff Baker is OK. He had an ocular migraine. Carlos Zambrano is fine, too. He ate something that didn't agree with him.

the fact is that wells had the greatest hitter currently in baseball and an 0-2 count, and he threw it OVER the plate...the pitch should not possibly be near the plate in that situation. Wells has been our worst pitcher this year. Not only that but he has no future with this team, Cashner, Jackson, and Carpentar all have brighter futures. Trade him while he still has some value or send him to the bp. Terrible...

He had a bad game. He has a future with the team. This game sucks no doubt, but no need for overreactions like this.

I disagree. He is easily statistically, the worst starter in the rotation right now. We have gorz as a replacement for lilly after this year (he has pitched great), dempster, probably Z (unless he gets his trade value up and this team tanks), and Silva. Cashner and Jackson should be MLB ready next year, same with carpenter. There is no room for wells on this team now or in the future. Theres too many guys who have more upside then mediocrity.

Not really. His ERA numbers arent good, but the rest of his numbers are great, plus if you take out the Pirates game the numbers are even better. Wells has been very good thus far, just had a few very very bad outings.
