Eddy Curry(notes) made a shade over $10 million this year as a member of the New York Knicks.

..Despite that enormous salary and the fact that Curry has made more than $57 million in his nine-year career the former No. 4 draft pick is seriously in debt. As the Associated Press reports, Curry defaulted on a $575,000 loan with an 85 percent interest rate, which can only happen in Nevada, and has been ordered to pay back $1.2 million to Allstar Capital Inc., the world's most ironic loan service.
However, Curry argues that he shouldn't have to pay off that debt, because he's spending too much money in other places. According to reports filed in the suit Curry's outgoing payments include:
$30,000 a month for "household expenses."
$17,000 a month to various relatives including his parents, sister and father-in-law.
More than $1,000 a month for cable and satellite television.
$207,000 a month in garnished wages that haven't been elaborated upon, but adds up to almost $2.5 million that Eddy Curry never sees over the course of a year.
$350,000 to Juwan Howard(notes). (What?)
Curry also owns 12 cars, three of which a Rolls Royce convertible and two Land Rovers may be taken by Allstar Capital, though Curry's lawyer says that they have reached "a mutually satisfactory resolution of the matter." Maybe Curry gets one of the Land Rovers and can drive the Rolls to important events? Seems fair to me.

I bet we here him file for bankruptcy soon. He'll be broke and penniless within a year of leaving the NBA.

I feel bad for a lot of pro athletes who never learn to deal with money. Some sort of financial management course should be mandatory for anyone who plays Division 1 basketball or football in my opinion. A lot of these athletes never had serious money before and can't handle it. People can joke about it all they want, but I feel really bad for guys like this.

Well I guess they did not teach him to spend wisely
at Thornwood High School. He should have gone to ThornRidge like me.
Talk about a bust of all time.He must be up there in the rankings.

I don't feel bad for pro athletes one bit. They need to educate themselves on finances, and if they don't, then they'll go bankrupt guaranteed.

any athlete that loses all of their money is stupid. they need to be better at financing their money. people who do not make as much money as athletes (which i like to say is the majority of us) can live a very happy life IF the money is used correctly. just goes to show you how stupid some athletes can be because they think they will never run out of money.

85% interest is ludicrous. I'm legitimately surprised it doesn't violate some consumer protection act of some kind.

Hasn't he heard of delivery... if Round Table Pasta is good enough for the three hot italian girls... its gotta be good enough for Eddie!

Eddie, if you are out there, here are some good starting points:

1) You don't need more than 2 cars.
2) You don't need any car worth more than an average house... even and average condo.
3) You don't pay interest. On anything. Period. Pay in full. If you can't, don't get it.
4) Pick, Cable or Satellite. NOT BOTH. Better yet, get neither... you should be practicing your game instead of watching TV.

CC companies are the most egregious fraudulent companies in the world. Some will go as far as to change your payment due-date in the middle of the month without significant notice, then proceed to hike up your interest the following month without mention. Try to correct a wrong payment that they have listed? It will take months upon months. Good luck talking to their customer service reps as well.

Sucks for Eddy Curry (and I can understand your sympathy GrumpyOldMan), but he's an idiot. The onus has to be on YOU to take accountability and not spend like a drunken sailor in a night club. My best advice to him would be to hire a trusted financial advisor to take control of ALL of his finances, then spend the rest of the day getting back into game shape so he can salvage his career and earn another contract.

What can you expect. A bunch of these players come from lower-class enviroments, im not saying there bad people/idiots, but more than likely the LAST place you look to obtain financial advice from. So they dont have anything to fall on in terms of knowledge on the subject.

They get into the NBA, here the word millions, and decide everyone they knew needs a new car, house, blinged out watch, etc. if you think about the money he's made, he should at the very least have 10 million in the bank. that of which he makes $100,000 off of interest a year just sitting there.

That 100,000 should at least help some expenses without touching any new pay-checks.

That is the biggest cliche in existence. Give me ten million dollars right now and watch me live on that **** for the rest of my life.

I feel bad for nurses and auto-workers and teachers who are struggling and buried in debt. I don't feel bad for millionaire-athletes/deadbeat-dads who inexplicably manage to live beyond their means.

The guy has been through a lot of crap in his career off the court. Still, no reason its bad enough to go into the Antoine Walker V.2

On January 12, 2009, Curry was sued by his former chauffeur, David Kuchinsky. Kuchinsky accused Curry of trying to solicit gay sex from him. According to court papers, Curry repeatedly approached Kuchinsky "in the nude," saying, "Look at me, Dave, look" and, "Come and touch it, Dave." The Manhattan federal court suit also stated that Curry made Kuchinsky perform "humiliating tasks outside the scope of his employment, such as cleaning up and removing dirty towels [into which Curry had ejaculated] so that his wife would not see them." Kuchinsky also said Curry called him racial slurs, including "****ing Jew," "cracker," "white slave," "white devil" and "grandmaster of the KKK".

The chauffeur was an ex-con. And note this story came out only when Curry was going to have to get rid of him. He knew he wasn't going to get work any other way so he brings that story.
