The Hornets have told the eight candidates they've interviewed for their coaching position that they are not trading Chris Paul, even after his backup, Darren Collison, stepped in and played very well after Paul suffered a knee injury.

..... I am gonna be the first to say this, well DUH!! The media puts too much drama into things, there was no way we'd trade the best point guard in the league.

It's obvious, any team that trades one of the best PG for players that don't have near talent as CP are dumb.

I see Collison leaving more.

Why would he be traded? I still think he's better than Deron. That would come back to bite them in the @$$.

not a surprise to me. So many people were making "Chris Paul Trade Ideas" and I thought it was a little premature.

Yeah, this thread is to shut everybody up who actually thought CP wouldn't be a Hornet, i don't see DC going either.

they will try and use collison as bait for an okafor/peja taker. why would you trade the best point guard in the league?

Darren Collison is on the block for sure now.

Peja is ok. He expires after this upcoming season. Replace Peja with James Posey

LOL soo many ignorant assumptions...
also Peja is an expiring once he accepts his 13 Million player option so it wont take DC to trade him

thats exactly what i thought when i saw this thread, the nba is too much of a what-have-you-done-lately place and they get caught up in "what could be" just because collison is in his rookie year and they tend to forget what paul has done for them already.

lol sucks for all the other teams. but would the hornets trade paul if it meant getting rid of okafors nasty contract?

like from a raptors perspective this problem isnt even close to chris pauls value but it frees up space

chris paul and omeka for andrea bargnani demar derozan, marco belineli 13th pick, banks and evans ( 10 mil expirings)

if rondo could shoot like steve nash, he'd be hands down the best pg in the nba.

Thank the Lord this thread was finally started!

He's not being traded!!!

And yes, Darren Collison would be available if one of your teams would also take Morris Peterson, James Posey, Emeka Okafor, or Peja Stojakvoic.

Take out Peja and Mo Pete, they are expirings so its a lot easier to trade them

We should be getting an awesome player this year for Peja and Mo Pete!! Why would we trade Collison for someone to take them? That's a lot of money teams would love to have come off the books. I'm looking for NO to be big players around the all-star break

Am I the only one that see that Darren Collision was successful because he was never scouted by teams prior to CP injury.. ppl where more concerned with stopping CP not their back up rookie pg... so When he went down it was a bit of a surprise.. Jus like Brandon Jennings in the start of the season no one bothered to scout him because they didnt think a rookie pg would have such and impact on his team... SO all the CP trade tlks should jus stop now..

What are you talking about??? The team didn't even make it to the playoffs and you want to keep two starting quality point guards? Hornets would get something valuable in return for DC. They have major holes in other areas and they need to ****ing fill those if you guys hope to sniff the playoffs next year.

Collison is the only bench production we have and should only be traded when he has the most value. Trading him now wouldn't help, unless its for Bosh or another superstar. Maybe at the all star break we can.

the hornets will be able to get some good value for collison. there is no compelling reason for them to trade paul right now. it would piss off the hornets fan base and make their team worse. i dont know how the hornets ownership could justify trading one of the best pgs of the game away to the fan base and the team.

the Jazz would happily take Posey off your hands for our 6.5 million trade excepton if we got your 1st this year along with him

that gets you below the luxury right?

Of course you don't trade the THIRD best PG in the league.

His value is pretty freakin' high right now. Take it from a fan who's GM shoulda pulled the trigger on some similar moves recently, you guys should look to move him soon. I mean, c'mon... Paul is gonna play his usual minutes and you can't really get him and Collison on the floor together for long enough stretches to make it effective. Best case scenario for those two is Boozer/Milsap, worst case is Rip/Gordon.

Of course you don't trade the THIRD best PG in the league.

No, no. Rajon Rondo plays for Boston, dummy.

Yeah you would have to be crazy to trade Paul. Collison isn't THAT good lol.

05-24-2010, 06:25 PM
Buyer beware with Collison. A good comparison would be Bobcat's pg DJ Augustine. He was great in his first season and sucked in his second season. I'm not saying this is going to happen. I'd just be careful trading the farm for a 2nd year pg.

Why not shop Paul, since Collison had a break out this year while Paul was hurt. If I were the Hornets, I would trade Paul for value to help re-build the team. But that is just my opinion.

How about two trades with Utah..
Trade #1- AK47, Ronnie Price and Kosta Koufus ($20.5mil) for Okafor, MoPete, Collison and #11 ($21.1mil)
AK and Ronnie are expiring after this year and Koufus has a team option ($2.2mil) next year.

Trade #2- Matt Harpring's trade exception for James Posey.

This year the hornets save approx $7 mil and you get $20 mil in expiring contracts.

CP3, West, AK, Peja, Songalia, Wright and Price with some money to spend this year.
CP3 and West next summer with tons of money to spend.

Yep, unless they can get LeBron in return, or else it's not even worth thinking about.

well if not Paul, they at least have to get rid of Collison. No point in having 2 starting PGs on one roster, especially when you have HUGE gaps at the wing spots like NO does. They should trade Collison for a solid wing player.

I could understand considering it though. If it turns into a situation similar to Bosh, this would be the best time to get the most value.
