Unless he reached on an error he didn't reach base against the Pirates on May 16th...

That's just ridiculous, I'm really starting to love this kid. He's got so much talent, and while he hasn't been overwhelming with his power or batting runs in, he has contributed by getting on base, now just to get the rest of the team getting on base as well....

With Starlin Castro's first inning single Sunday, he now has now reached base safely in his first 16 games by either a hit, walk or error. According to Baseball Reference, the longest streak by a player to start his career since 1952 was 47 games, set by Alvin Davis in 1984 with Seattle. Castro is tied for 15th with three others, including current White Sox outfielder Juan Pierre.

fact is he's still on base... which is why it counts..

He didn't say it didn't count.

You know, the whole "Unless he reached on an error" part of his comment.

Very impressed with Castro. I expected him to struggle quite a bit, but he's been our most consistent hitter since his call-up.

I was projecting a line of .300 .360 .440 that I would be absolutely ecstatic with. So yea. I've been very impressed with Castro. An .800 OPS from SS the he's supposed to be able to play defense? He's amazing.

Im just a little worried about his power. I think hes got 5 XBH which isnt bad but i expected a bit more doubles.

However, with him getting used to Major League pitching and growing a bit hopefully his slugging can increase nicely.

Looks like Castro has a ways to go. 47 is a big number. I just hope he plays well, not too worried about breaking records.

I'm going to be more interested to see what he does as the opposition learns to adjust.

And it continues. He should have gotten a hit earlier in the game so i'll take it.

I thought I read somewhere that the Cubs are 6-0 when he is at the top of the order also..stellar.

Yeah make it 7-0 now.

He hasn't drawn a walk in a little while now, I'd like to see him improve on that.

If you just watch his approach at the plate, it's easy to see why he's having success, and that he will continue to have success. He is very loose at the plate which is amazing for a 20 year old in the Majors. He hits it the other way which is another huge plus. He knows how to bunt for hits which only helps. And the thing I have liked most of all about him is how he runs out a ground ball in the infield. If they can keep this guy from getting a big head, and keep him hustling, he is going to be unreal. I can see him as a future batting champ at some point with all the different skill sets he brings to the table.

He got on base yesterday on a feilders choice I believe I'm not sure if that counts since it was a feilders choice, but he still got on base so idk. And the day before he got on, on an error by furcal so if the feilders choice counts than yes the streak is alive an at 18.

That rocket up the middle should've been a hit. Ely happened to catch it via self-defense. Can't we just play this game under protest? I mean it's Starlin Castro. Who the **** is John Ely? Is that even a name? John?? Make it happen JH.

Yeah he also got robbed by DeWitt's circus catch on a liner up the middle. Tough luck for Starlin.
