Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Referee Joe DeRosa has been suspended without pay for throwing a ball at a fan during halftime of an NBA playoff game in Orlando.

DeRosa will miss the next game he would have been scheduled to work.

At halftime of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Magic and Boston Celtics, DeRosa was walking to the scorer's table to get the warm-up jackets for his crew.

A fan behind the table approached DeRosa, gesturing with his arms and appearing to be shouting at the veteran official. DeRosa flipped the game ball to the fan, who tossed it back./QUOTE]

This got me wondering, do you think that fans of the home team can have an influence on the way the game is officiated? It sure seemed like that guy got to the ref, so maybe it does change a call or 2 that he makes later in the game...this ref is obviously a Dbag, and that fan no matter what he was saying regarding the horrible officiating should get reimbursed for his ticket... NBA refs are the worst... David Stern is a joke and so are the NBA officials

Not sure about the bolded part. I would hope refs can keep composure, and know that they should call the game correctly. Maybe a few calls could be influenced, but I doubt it would be enough to change the outcome of a game. Whoever is the better, or more driven team, will win, 98% of the time, and that's being generous. I hate admitting that, but it's in all honesty.
