The Associated Press reports that the Sixers are in negotiations with Doug Collins regarding their head coaching position.

This news doesn't come as a surprise given a report on Tuesday that suggested Collins already has the impression that the job is his. Though nothing is set in stone, Collins certainly looks like the frontrunner to land in Philly right now. http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20100518_76ers_said_to_be_favoring_Collins.html#ix zz0oH8B71TK

Its not a done deal yet, but seems pretty close to it. If it does get done, do you guys think its a good hire?

Very happy for Doug Collins!

And yes, he will be good for Phili, they have nowhere but to go up and improve from last season.

Doug Collins would be better suited as the Bulls' head coach.

i really appreciate doug collins, he's been around, from coaching jordan(twice) to his knowledge of the game, it's been proven since we hear him on t.v all the time.

i didn't like eddie jordan, never did, happy he's gone and the sixers are going to go in a new direction. more excitement to see once the sixers decide on taking turner.

Awesome! Makes it more likely that Thibodeau, Jackson or Casey take the Clippers job.

Boy he is a sucker for punishment. Why leave the booth to coach the 76ers? I bet you he burns out within 2 years and he gets tuned out as he did in Detroit, Washington. Stay in the booth, Kevin Harlan needs you.

Collins is going to love coaching Jrue, Iggy and Dalembert because of the way they play defense. Hopefully he can right the mistakes that Jordan made with Thad and Reese Speights. He's the kind of signing that your not mad they signed him, but your not estatic either.

Interesting. There are a lot of good free agent coaches out there. He's decent. I really haven't seen him coach outside of the wizards.

The 76ers have a balanced team. Holliday, Iguodala, and Turner are great young talents. Dalembert is a decent center. Brand is still a decent PF.

Jrue Holliday/Lou Williams/
Andre Iguodala/Willie Green/
Evan Turner/Thaddeus Young/
Elton Brand/Marresse Speights/
Samuel Dalembert/Jason Smith/

Sixers line-up will probably be looking like this

Jrue Holiday/ Lou Williams
Evan Turner/ Jodie Meeks (willie's gone IMO he is a UFA)
Andre Iguodala/ Thaddeus Young/ Jason Kapono
Elton Brand/ Marreese Speights
Samuel Dalembert/ Jason Smith

with Evan Turner and Doug Collins we are definitely headed in the right direction.

Good signing for Philly. Hopefully Collins leads that team back to the playoffs.

The 76ers have agreed to terms with new head coach Doug Collins. An official announcement will be made on Friday, and Collins will likely be introduced on Monday.
Collins has a career NBA coaching record of 332-287, including stints with the Bulls, Pistons, and Wizards. The Sixers just lucked into the #2 pick in the 2010 draft, and the addition of someone like Evan Turner could put them right back in the postseason picture.

Lou Williams/Jrue Holiday/Iguodala/Young/Speights/Brand/Dalembert and 2nd pick with Doug collins as coach. They might very well be back in the playoffs soon

I am actually really happy to see Collins back on the side line. I think he is truly one of the great coaches of his generation and it seems like a tragedy for him to have been commentating for so long.

Phil Jackson is great, but he had the keys to the kingdom handed to him when Collins got fired. Collins got to the conference finals game seven and was fired. The next season Jackson did no better, and it wasnt until the Bulls had a little more depth with players like BJ Armstrong and Stacy King, and players like Pippen and Grant had time to develop into better all-around players with the wisdom of experience that the Bulls were really ready to contend. The fact Collins got as far as he did with as little as he had, especially when the Pistons, Celtics and even the Cavs at that time had such great teams is a testiment to his abilities.

Even in Detroit he seemed to stretch what little talent he had on his roster and coached Grant Hill to his best season.

I'm happy to see him back on the sidelines and I think between his coaching, the talent they already have (and they have a lot) and having the number 2 pick, and the mid-level exception to add another quality free agent, this team, and the fans of Philly had a legit reason to believe that this team has the potential to actually contend next season.

The 76ers were gross under achievers this season considering what they had, and the only position they werent deep at was point guard. Next season will be a very different story for Philly!

No we were not serious with DC at all. He is very good coach but he is a perfectionist and I am not sure if Philly is a good fit for DC at all. But Philly definitely gets a good teacher.

He hasn't been able to last very long at his last few stops. I'm not overwhelmed at this signing. I must admit I was surprised at how poorly Eddie Jordan did in Philly.
