Quick SummaryKnicks forward Wilson Chandler was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana

Knicks forward Wilson Chandler and a companion were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana after Chandler's car was pulled over on a Queens street Tuesday night, a spokesman for the New York City Police Department said.

According to the spokesman, Chandler, 23, and Lamonte Yarbrough, 22, were arrested by officers of the 105th precinct on the corner of 94th Avenue and 213th Street. A person familiar with the situation said police stopped the vehicle because its headlights were not turned on and they then noticed an odor they associated with marijuana.

The person said police recovered six bags of what they alleged to be marijuana. It was said to be less than two ounces. Chandler was driving a 2010 Mercedes-Benz with Michigan plates. Chandler and Yarbrough are Michigan residents.

The men were charged with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by three months in jail and a fine up to $500.

Police said the pair was issued appearance tickets for July 1.

"We have spoken to Wilson regarding [Tuesday] night's incident and will not be commenting at this time,'' the Knicks said in a statement. The NBA will review Chandler's situation within the league's drug program, according to a person familiar with the NBA's policy on substance abuse.

Chandler, who had sports hernia surgery last week, averaged 15.3 points and sat out the final month with a groin injury.

The Dolan family owns controlling interests in the Knicks, MSG and Cablevision. Cablevision owns Newsday.

Does anybody in this forum not believe that at least 50% of NBA players smoke marijuana, at least in the off season?
