Atlanta Hawks.. Joe Johnson will sign with the NY Knicks(5yr 82.5mill)

I can see the Hawks Signing Rudy Gay 5yr 50mill

Lineup:

C) S.Pach
PF) HOrtford
SF) J.Smith
SG) R.Gay
PG) M.Bibby

6th man: Crawford.. Overall, pretty much the same team IMO

Rudy is not a 2. And he turned down that same deal last summer. He wants max money (which he doesnt deserve)

I could see the Wolves going after him depending on what they do in the draft. They know they wont get LeBron, Wade, or Bosh, so they will probably try and target a 2nd tier guy right away

Well you already know how i feel Hawkeye. But i will say it again. You and I both know you guys are going to have to overpay him to come there. He turned down 5 for 50 mil. He isnt worth that and especially not more

I know man, thats what worries me. The issue is, if you are the Wolves, you also understand the only way you get a so called top FA is to overpay. You just have to hope a happy medium is reached. One that still allows you to build around a tiny financial mistake. And unfortunately, the only way that happens if is the Wolves can finally get a draft pick that turns into a star, cause once you have them, you can go over the cap to resign them. Can't do that when chasing a FA outright.
I would not be surprised to see a 4-5 year offer in the $12-14 million range come from the Wolves.

Hes probably worth about 45 for 5 years (actual worth). But hes gonna get a 60 mill for 5 years deal (not max, but who would be dumb enough to give an unproven guy--never been in the playoffs, a max).

The more and more of these FA threads that pop up, the more and more I feel bad for Detroit completely blowing it last year.

Gay might be the biggest beneficiary of this off-season. There are a ton of teams willing to spend, and depending on which stars stay put, there will be teams with a lot of money to spend, and eager to over pay for him. I think he'll stay in Memphis, but I can see the bidding getting very high, and them perhaps bowing out.

I rather have Gay than CV and BG... I have no idea what the pistons were doing. Or they coulda saved that cash and go at a tier 2 guy.

Well if that happens good luck with him. You will regret it more than we will. And you will see what we in Memphis see. We call it Rudy being Rudy. When he just has mental lapses.

totally. I watch Memphis quite a bit, I like Gasol, and Mayo. Gay is very talented, and can score at will. But he just seems like he checks out at periods of time.

No it doesn't seem that way. IT IS THAT WAY.

This play just proves it. I think it was more on Rudy. I mean i know Kobe had to make the shot. But everybody in the building knows Kobe is going to shoot it and you sag off? He should have been in his Jersey.

As a Celtics fan, I hope he stays in Boston. Of the 'big three', he is my favorite, and I'd rather lose Garnett or Pierce than a classy player like Allen. Hes my second favorite player on the Celtics, behind Rajon Rondo.

Sportfan
05-16-2010, 05:54 PM
If we actually had cap space, I'd let him go but that's not the case. The Celtics dont really have another starter lined up for him, so he'll probably return on a 1 year deal

AntiG
05-16-2010, 05:54 PM
I think he'll stay in Boston... the Celtics don't really have the cap space to add any other major FA unless basically they let Ray walk AND Pierce opts out to re-sign for a reduced (like half) salary, so I think they'll decide in the end to take advantage of the Larry Bird rule and sign Ray to a one or two year deal. Its not like his play has fallen off or he has lost any of his athleticism (if anything he has looked MORE athletic this year than the past two years in Boston), so I think he'll still be in his prime for at least one more season.

Hotone1401

There's no way Ray Allen is leaving Boston. The guy will retire a Celtic and he very well should. But if he is going anywhere else I really think he'd be a great fit for Orlando or the Lakers. Realistically, I believe he and KG will retire together after they knock Lebron out of the playoffs and lose to the Lakers in the Finals a few times.

05-16-2010, 07:24 PM
I say they let him walk and try and go younger.. or atleast work some kind of sign and trade.. ppl may like Ray Allen but out of the big 4 he wud be the first Boston wud let go if they had to choose..

Just to clarify, based on the salary cap rules, isn't Gay's max somewhere around 12-13 million based on how many years he has been in the league?
He will likely get that offer from someone, and the Grizz will likely match. Only way I see him leaving is in a S&T.

2 year MLE deal with the second year being a player option. He'll be back in Boston with his hot playoffs so far.

He just enrolled his kids for school in Boston next year, and has stated he doesn't want to move his family again.

The ball is in the court of the front office. If it's up to Ray, he's staying in Boston.

He's most likely staying, as he qualifies under the Larry Bird exception where his salary will not count toward the C's cap next year if they re-sign him. They'd be stupid not to.

If for some odd reason they don't, he will stay close to New England and Connecticut and most likely sign with the Knicks.
