Wouldn't be too surprised if the Suns pulled an upset and eliminated the Lakers.

Factor for me is, what Lakers team is going to show up? If it's the championship caliber collective effort, the Suns will fall short. So with those factors in play, it should be an interesting series - considering the level of play the Suns have been playing at for most part of this year. This is not the same Suns team we've seen in the past.

Hey jb robin lopez is the starting center for the suns

vague, but gets the point across

The Suns are hoping that the presence of Robin Lopez in the lineup will help shore that up against the Lakers' big front line.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2010/05/15/20100515phoenix-suns-nba-playoffs-lakers-rebounding.html

i think its fair to assume this means he's the starting center. collins played no more than 10 minutes a game, and if robin lopez has any playing time at all, it will take all of collins minutes, and then some.

I think the Lakers will dominate for much of the game, slack off and let the Suns get close/tie the game, and then it will come down to the last 3 minutes of the game-which will turn into a ft contest between the two teams...and then the Lakers pull it out by 7 after a buzzer beater by Derek Fisher.
Do I win anything if I'm right?

This is a worse matchup than the Utah/Lakers matchup. As great as the Suns have played, the Lakers still beat them in their building in March. And we all know how bad LA has been playing. The Suns will fall short. The only shot they have is if Pau & Kobe get hurt.

I know, its rather hilarious. It's like they have amnesia or something.

Unless the Suns just acquired some length and toughness to physical up Kobe, Pau and the guys I think its still the same team the Lakers have faced the last three years.

The one that can't match LA's front court, the one that has nobody to guard kobe, and 6'9" Amare against 7'1" Gasol favors the big guy everytime!

I think the two 20+ point wins this year, the 9-3 record with four 15+ pt wins over three years, and the fact that Phx has nobody to check Kobe, Pau, nor the size to matchup and no physicality gives Lakers fans assurances.

It's still Phil Jackson vs. Alvin Gentry

It's still Kobe Bryant vs. Jason Richardson

Oh and LA has homecourt.

Oh and LA has revenge on their mind.

Laker fans have their fears. Because the team can be exploited. If you play physical ball and have the length to matchup, you have a shot. If you chuck three's run up and down the court, and lack size, you don't have a prayer.

There are two teams that have a shot at beating LA. Both play in the east.

Gasol is so lanky though. He plays a lot taller than he is. I wish I could pretend that the Suns bigs could limit the Lakers', but I really just can't see it happening. It's also noteworthy that Amare really isn't a good defender in the first place.

Their are mismatches on both sides. Yes Lakers have the wieght advantage not really so much in height. Yet the Suns have the better bench. I think it will be a great series. I cant really say who will win. I will say whoever exploits the others weakness will win. Weather its Lakers in size, or the Suns high speed pace. I think the only way to hurt the lakers bigs is to spread the floor and make them run. With Bynum having Knee injury there is no way he will be able to keep up with the Suns bigs in the Run and Gun system. The Lakers will have the better low post game tho. So it really is a better match up than most people are thinking.

CowboysKB24

I think the Lakers take this game pretty easily. I don't think the Suns match up well against us. I think the series is going to be 4-1, 4-2. We've had great success recently against the Suns too.

shep33
05-17-2010, 05:20 PM
LA is banged up, with Bynum and a report came out talking about how Kobe had a significant amount of fluid drained from his knee... so we'll see what happens. I think LA can still take them though, especially if Drew is at least playing on the defensive end.

But again LA is severely hurting right now...

Odom has a bad shoulder injury
Bynum has a small tear in his knee
Kobe has his knee messed up, finger too
Artest has a injury to his shoulder and thumb
Shannon Brown has an injured thumb
Vujacic ain't playing i think; severely sprained ankle

This could be important for the Lakers getting back on D, especially with Drew's knee. Interesting series... whoever controls the pace controls the series.

sig bet? how about an actual one?

The suns do not have size, let's not get crazy here. Your center is Channing Frye for crying out loud. Finally the lesser Lopez returns to the lineup. Let's see this "new" suns team. I'm unfamiliar with the acquistions you made at the allstar break to improve your team. Do not confuse the Spurs success with the Lakers. LA has crushed the Spurs over the years.

There were none. We've only played you guys once since Lopez began starting.

I'm left-handed, but I never could seem to get that form left-handers could get. I don't shoot like Dragic, Fisher, or Michael Redd; I just never could get it down, maybe it's just usual for me to see myself shooting with my left, that I got used to it, and I can't see myself shooting like that. I have no respect for Phoenix, they don't scare me. They played an awful Portland team and a Spurs team that half the roster is ready to take a dirt nap. I have as much respect for them as I do the Magic, it's a Boston-Lakers finals ladies.

You mean, they faced a resilient, tough, hard-working, Portland team, who suffered numerous injuries throughout the season, yet still remained composed; And a Spurs team who when hot, is just as good as anyone, and won the series from the Dallas Mavericks, who could've arguably made it all the way to the end?

I don't understand your logic. The hate for Phoenix is absolutely ridiculous. Give these guys some credit. Not sure what they really did to you. Did they kill your first-born or something?

Don't be so sure of yourself; Orlando has been playing amazing basketball, and could easily get back into this series, and get to the Finals. Don't doubt us. Don't doubt Phoenix either. They've won 6 of the last 7 Series' against you guys, so if I was LA, I'd actually be a bit more nervous than most of you guys are. Don't take Phoenix for granted.

I have no favorite in this contest, but comments like this make me want to pull my hair out. The ignorance is unbelievable.

It's so sad that Ernie is under the weather. Biggest injury of these playoffs thus far!

If I'm a Laker fan, I'm happy Kobe has been attacking, and not just settling for tough shots. The more trips to the line, the better he is playing.

Odom is showing why a solid 2-3 man bench is perhaps better than a deep bench in the playoffs. You really can get away with 2 bench players, as long as they are as good as Odom. He's been unreal.

there are A LOT of reasons, but the main reason why i like the lakers in 5 is b/c the suns have ZERO chance of beating the lakers at staples and the Lakers are the best road team in the playoffs. they will win AT LEAST one road playoff game, probably 2 if it goes that far. Lakers will thrash the weak suns at all games at staples. suns will get lucky and steal game 3, but the lakes will get game 4. and for the past 3 years the lakers have crushed the suns at staples. suns can't stop our bigs, kobe or our bench. lakers kill teams that have the style of live by the 3, die by the 3.

Hah, so right. A lot of boasting, moronic, and generally annoying posts are made by the Lakers fans - more so than any other teams fans from what I've seen. I'm not sure if you've ever been to LA, but if you have, you understand. To be fair they're not all bad, though. "Avenged" and Ko8e come to mind as generally solid posters who don't feel the need to trash another team because some people they've never met before outplayed their opponent.

Hey Guys, this is a prediction about this game. We have a series thread where you make the predictions about the series.

Don't you think the this game and the series are directly related? The series and the game have a lot to do with one another, they go hand in hand. Let it be dude.

It was 1 game... You do realize there is at least 3 more??? Just let the lakers fans talk their trash. This series don't start until the home team loses a game. Still say Suns in 6.

Its your opinion, but really, do you really think the suns could do it in 6. Not even enough respect to say 7!

So what all Lakers fans live in LA that is a moronic thing to say. Lakers fans are all across the United States not just LA and some of us actually have something in intelligent to say. But haters like you do not take the time tonotice that, also after tonight we have a big reason to boast. The lakers picked apart the suns in the 2nd half and will continue until the suns actually learn to play defense. Playing defense against the spurs is way different than the Lakers we actually have more than one or two offensive threats and Kobe knows how to deal with double triple teams so he cant be stopped i.e. TONIGHT

Okay, I apologize. I'll be on the lookout for those other fans. If you find one, point him/her out?

There was a short span where the Suns played great defense and forced the Lakers to become strickly jump shooters, they need to do more of that to have a shot. Go Lake Show!!!

The Suns remind me like the Mavs fans. For the past week Suns fans have been gloating about so much about how they are different, they play defense, better bench, robin lopez ect ect and after such a dominating performance by the Lakers, it makes the win a bit more sweeter for us fans. By no means is the series is over, and I can't and will not count out the Suns. This win justs me is sweet.

To be Honest its probably more wishful thinking then it is honestly believing... I cant say 7 because if it were to go 7 the suns would have no shot at winning in the staples center in a game 7... I am looking at it like this... Suns win the next 3... Lakers win 1 after that then the suns win it in game 6. If the suns can steal the next game I honestly believe they can then win 2 on their own floor... But the next game is the problem... The Lakers are just so difficult to beat at home.

The Suns do play better defense, and are a really good team. Tonight didn't show that too well, but it's only one game.

The Suns never get any respect. So any "gloating" you see from Suns fans is usually in response to that.

lets wait until either of those teams win the series before saying things like that...

Though Phil perfect in series when winning the 1st game. But I wouldn't count the Magic out, they'll win at least one in Boston.

I agree with you.

with all due respect man this is just one of those superstar games....where kobe took over he dominated and your team won but if you really have not been watching suns series then you really dont know what you are talking about...like i said congrats lets just wait till the series is over...cavs celebrated game 1...now they aint even in the ecf...good luck in the rest of the games though

True the Cavs started celebrating early but the Lakers are the defending champions and have a far superior coach who will not allow that to happen. Plus they all know that the Suns are a dangerous offensive team, but the Lakers will be able to score almost at will against them. Kobe will average in the mid to high 30's against the suns they just allow to many points for kobe not to. But I hope that this turns into an interesting series, because i refuse to watch eastern conference . Anyways hope this series stays interesting

Laker fan since 84" checking in all the way from enemy territory in Beantown. If you're calling for intelligent posts than let's start with your posts because saying the Lakers don't have true fans in other parts of the country is not wise. There are fans here in Boston that have followed Magic, Coop, Mychal Thompson all the way through Cedric Ceballos, Van Excel, Eddie Jones to now with Kobe, Pau, and DJ... haha... yeah, I said DJ. So you might want to rethink your statement.

Great win by Lakers up against a formidable opponent.

LMAO haha i mentioned Boston even though its highly unlikely there are many Lakers fans there because of the longtime rivalry with the celtics lol. But yeah the douche bag makes hasty generalizations about a HUGE fan base. What the 15% of Lakers fans that dont know much about basketball except that the Lakers have been great in this last decade minus 2-4 years and brag about the Lakers. So what the rest of us actually know a thing about basketball. For me the only sport I watch is basketball and I have been watching it since right before we got shaq!!

Oh, yeah, we are here in Baaaahston. Had to stinkin endure going to work in 2008. Ughhh, every Celtic fairweather was texting me or calling me the night of the game 6 blowout in 08". If we can beat the Suns and go on to beat Boston I got every name that texted or called me that night on speed dial!!! First things, first though... beating a pesky Suns team.

Wow that would suck it was bad enough going to school in Southern California lmao. But haha I would send a tape to them if the Lakers took the Celtics out :D. Yeah but I think the Lakers will take out the Suns they are just playing great basketball
