Just as Kobe Bryant took the reins Tuesday night to lead the Lakers in an overwhelming playoff Game 5 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, he also is showing how much clout he has in the marketplace.

Bryant's No. 24 jersey again is the top-seller in the NBA, the league announced Wednesday. His jersey also was No. 1 in 2008-09.

The Lakers were the top team in NBA merchandise sales, as has been the case in seven of the past eight seasons.

Second to Bryant in individual jersey sales is LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was No. 3, up one spot from last season. Chicago Bulls second-year player Derrick Rose was No. 4, and the Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard was No. 5.

Kevin Durant, whose Thunder have posed a surprising threat to the Lakers, is in the top 10 for the first time, coming in at No. 9. Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony moved from No. 15 to No. 10.

Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat came in at No. 6; Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets was No. 7, and Celtics star Paul Pierce was No. 8.

The Celtics were No. 2 in team merchandise sales for the second season in a row. The Cavaliers, Bulls and New York Knicks round out the top five.

Bryant changed his number from 8 to 24 at the beginning of the 2006-07 season. Bryant wore No. 8 for the first 10 years of his career.

Its nice to see someone rewarded for helping ex-Bulls coach, Phil Jackson, win his 10th NBA title as a head coach.

Its still because of the number change, just wait till next year when Lebron is wearing number 6. It will be the number 1 selling jersey of all time!

Dude, that argument need crutches because it was lame! I ask you, if people are willing to buy TWO of Kobe's jerseys before they purchase ONE of Lebron's...what does that say about your prince?

You people need to stop living vicariously through these athletes. It's pathetic.

What it says is that Kobe has been in the league for half a decade longer than Lebron, playing in one of the worlds largest markets for a championship program. If Lebron wins the ring this year, his merchandise sales will soar. Regardless if he had changed his number or not.

Bruh, I agree with u. But take it easy fams, lol. I could've said what you just said. The only reason I made that statement was because it was yet another "but" as to why Kobe had topped everyone else. At the same time, I also have to say, Kobe was tops in jersey sales BEFORE he got his 4th ring. So while I'm a believer that if Lebron does get a ring this yr,It will bolster his jersey sales. Jewelry & a # change isn't the only reasons why Kobe is #1 in sales. I feel you though. I just get tired of hearing people say Kobe only did this or that or got this or that because of(excuse here). Instead of just crediting the dude....that's all!!!!!

Ahah fair 'nough fair 'nough. It wasn't even meant at you, just in general. But as for the jersey sales, he was still playing in the entertainment capital of the world and winning championships when Lebron was in 7th grade, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd be more popular still around the globe.

But these sales figures only account for nba.com and the NBA store in New York. How many fans that wear jerseys do you know actually shop at those 2 places. So how accurate are these numbers?

Why should that not be mentioned? Rose is a young great player. Its amazing that Knicks fans bristle at all things Bulls...even to this day.

I think its pathetic to have an incessant need to belittle people on the internet you don't even know just so you could feel better about yourself. But you're definitely right about why Kobe's no.1. I would say its kinda childish to even use jersey sales as a facet for whose the better player, but pathetic? Pathetic is more along the lines of living in your mothers basement in your mid 30s jerking off to child porn.

Hah Jesus, I'm not a pimply faced teen that gets satisfaction out of "belittling people". I just can't stand the hero-worship/false assumptions that run rampant on this site from time to time. Like it or not, I'm going to express that. If people are being ridiculous I say they need to be called out on it. And haha... I'd say the 2nd part there's eclipsing "pathetic"... more like creepy as all hell.

LOL. Kobe changed his number 4 years ago. The argument that it is all about the number change is pathetic.

The dude is just able to sell jerseys because he is the most widely known active basketball player in the world. It's as simple as that.

Quit arguing about jersey sales. Their always seems to be some sort of argument when it comes to Kobe. I'll tell you i'll be the first to criticize a player if I feel he could've of done better or whatever, but this is ridiculous. Let the man enjoy his #1 spot in jersey sales.

He's a relatively charismatic, top 3 player (just to appease everyone) in the world's best market for basketball. Why is anyone surprised that he cleans up every year in jersey sales?
