If Melo can't do it, nobody can.

"I'm trying, I'm trying to beat them. I'm trying to do everything I can in my power to beat the Jazz," Anthony said Sunday. "But, at the end of the day, I need some help. I'm not sitting here pointing fingers or nothing. As a unit, we've got to do this together. I can't do this by myself."

The strain of having to do it all for a Nuggets team that doesn't have the right stuff erupted late in the first half, when Anthony loudly chastised teammate Chris Andersen on the bench for taking an ill-advised outside jump shot that clanked.

"I'm in a battle. I don't have time to worry about people's feelings right now," Anthony said. "I'm trying to win."

Denver appears to be a team that knows it is done. You can't blame Anthony, averaging 34.5 points per game in this series against Utah.

"I've got a feeling Melo is going to have a big night," Nuggets vice president of player personnel Rex Chapman predicted as players warmed up prior to Game 4.

Wow.

How long before rumors of Melo trying to join up with one of the other top 10 superstars begins?

He sure does. No one else really has been hitting shots besides him; at least no one else has been hitting them consistently.

Melo has been great. He's shooting a lot of shots, but he legitimately has to. He's the only reliable scorer they have right now...until Chauncey wakes up. We all know how inconsistent everyone else is (yes, I'm talking to you JR).

Chauncey Billups hasn't played poorly, but I can definitely see where Melo is coming from. No one has really stepped up at all, or at least not consistently.

Their backs are against the wall, so every player needs to step up to the plate in the next game.

It's kinda sad, considering this team made it to the conference finals last year and could be bounced out the first round this year.

Tough to see Melo go out like this. He's playing really well (minus the foul trouble). If George Karl were on the sidelines, I think they'd be winning this series right now.

denver had home court advantage, theres no excuse for the nuggets, the jazz are playing with out one of theyre starters. clearly they are just playing like the better team.

george karl is alot more important to the nuggets then any one realized. he is the tuff sob coach that holds everything together there. with out him they what they are, a first round exist.

As another Jazz fan I can say that Melo does look by himself out there. Hustling after rebounds and of course on offense. He does need some help but as a Jazz fan I hope he doesn't get it.

Billups needs to step up into his normal playoff form, and they have to get more out of Smith.

Well once Billups is done, then he will need help. I would think in 2011 he either gets help or he signs somewhere else.

the nuggets season sure has taken a turn for the worst since karl had to leave the team. they went from being to a legitimate western conference contender to likely being bounced in the first round. they just arent playing with any heart right now. denver should not be down 3-1 to an undermanned jazz team.

outside from Melo Lawson and Afflalo everyone should be considered trade bait.

Melo shoudn't even say nothin 2 the media after the coach and teammates mentioned his 9 TO's, he should just tell his guys to stop running around in circles and doin stupid crossovers and all that one on one ball that George Karl watches and hates lol

Melo is doing all he can, 34.5ppg on 53FG%, 47THR% and 94FT%... What more does he need to do?

And don't say get 5+apg because he's not a point-forward.

sventhedog
04-27-2010, 03:42 AM
of course 9 turnovers is bad but all great scorers fall into that trap of trying to do too much specially when he loses faith in his teamates. kobe lebron wade etc has experienced this too. it's just that kobe has a better team, lebron too. wade has a bad team with him, but people aren't exactly expecting much from them.

another thing is billups. a season ago, he saved the nuggets. he stabilized the team and directed the offense and defense. billups voice was new; he had an impressive resume so everyone listened to him. but that voice also gets old. some players get tired of listening and suddenly it doesn't inspire players anymore. then you need other motivation like 'being in a team and winning' or 'the feeling of winning a championship.'

the nuggets are too fragile without their head coach.

Play the other side of the floor. Melo has no dedication on the defensive end, and until he does (or teams up with enough solid defenders to pick up his slack), he's not going to see an NBA finals. Going to be 6/7 first round exits for Melo.

I like Melo, hes putting in work. But the Nuggets really need George back because he makes the nugs go.

Chauncey Billups hasn't played poorly

Actually, I'd say he's probably been the most disappointing player on the Nuggets in the postseason, with the possible exception of Nene.

But Melo is right - none of the guys who should be getting his back are stepping up.

On the other hand, I don't think that's a strike against the Nuggets organization in his mind. He knows that the current FO has done a much better job of building a proper team around him than Kiki ever did, and that they've made some big deals to land some bigtime impact players to support him.

It's just that now, for whatever reason, nearly to a man, not a single one of them is actually showing up to get his back. Hard to attribute it to any one thing, either, but losing Karl is the obvious culprit.

The Nuggets don't play defense, they're a bad defensive team, now he and his teammates have gotten better on that end, but they're still a bad defensive team. Btw it's hard to be aggressive on defense when you're always getting into foul trouble.

If you consider that all of Nene, K-Mart (big expiring), J.R., Birdman will possibly be on the block, there's potential for getting some pretty good stuff in return.
