View Full Version : What would be a bigger upset - SA over Dallas or Utah over Denver?

I think both will be kind of shocking, although the Jazz only because they've lost 2 or 3 of their key players to injury.

Jazz for the same reasons. Injuries to Okur and Kirilenko, and no home court advantage and they still are up 3-1.

Jazz would be more suprising

Jazz, all their injuries, Denver coming off a great playoff run, with Home-court.
Spurs, we all knew they could beat Dallas, as long as they played healthy and with the defense we USED to see them play b4, which I saw yesterday that I hadn't seen in a LONG time.

Both are upsets period. Nuggets had the HCA and Utah had 2 starters out of action in Ak47 and Okur

Mavs were the #2 seed and the Spurs the #7 seed.

Spurs are the best team in the NBA so them winning the series isn't surprising at all.

I agree. All four teams in this poll are excellent teams and can win any given series. I don't think any of them would be upsets at all. This HCA stuff is overblown. And the difference between 1 and 8 is only 7 games!! Only the LA-OKC series would be a real upset and that's mainly because of the huge difference in experience level.

wow the old period argument ehh. spurs series is only an upset if you dont know how to measure teams.

7 seed, beating a 2 seed.
Isn't that mathematically more shocking?

What's shocking about any of it when they're all so close together and the standings were only settled in the last week? There were only 5 games between the Mavs and the Spurs. How is it shocking that two veteran teams (one with as much post-season success as the Spurs) are fighting it out now? This series is one of the most predictable situations you could have.

I don't think they are upsets. Don't like 5 or 6 games separate all of 2-8 in the west.

Denver is losing because all they do is iso, and Utah actually runs an offense.

And San Antonio looks to have just as much fire power as a stacked dallas team.

Now if the Thunder nip the Lakers... that is an upset. I have a new respect for Kevin Durant, Russel Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka.

Agree with this. I never would have believed that the Nuggets would be down 3-1 to the Jazz.

Only if your relying on grade school math. If you dig deeper youll realize that Spurs had the better regular season, they just didnt get the most wins.

i wouldn't consider either to be an upset. but i am disappointed in the Nuggets' play.
if brandon roy is anywhere close to 75%, i wouldn't that call an upset too, if the blazers beat the suns.

if lakers lose, however, that'll be an upset.

Goes without saying a #1 (and defending champion) losing to an #8 is always an upset.

yup, well all i'm saying is, the west has no upset other than lakers vs thunder. the other 6 teams are so close.
and thunder is not that far behind them as well. west is very interesting this year.

jazz, the nuggets were suppose to be this juggernaut

the sa/mav thing isnt really all that surprising is it?

Spurs over Dallas is bigger. Most people thought the Mavs would win this series for sure and they were supposed to be the team to challenge the Lakers.

The Jazz over Nuggets is not that big because the Nuggets have sucked since Karl left and everyone knew that series would be dead even. If Karl was there and K-Mart was 100%, then it'd be the Jazz beating the Nuggets would be the bigger upset.

Agreed. If the Lakers don't get their act together, the West is anyone's to claim. And I could easily see a team like Portland or the Jazz going to the Western Conference Championship round.

The Nuggets have been horrible since GK went out. They play horrible ball to end the season. The only thing that makes it a little surprising is that the Jazz are without Memo and AK47 and still making the Nuggets look that horrible. I'm just really disappointed.

I'm surprised the Jazz are up 3-1 going back to Denver. I do attribute a lot of it to Karl being gone. JR jacking up bad shots and KMart's knee. But Nene should be dominating Fez in the post. And they are making Paul Milsap look like an all star. And they have no answer for Deron.

Neither are shocking. The only thing that could be shocking would be the Lakers falling to the Zombie sonics. The west seeds 2-8 are all great teams

There is no argument here. The Jazz won 3 games the last 2 playoffs combined (2008 and 2009). And they won those games with Okur, AK and Brewer. Now they win 3 games against a powerful Nuggets team using a rarely used center and an undrafted rookie.

What the Spurs are doing is impressive, but you could see this coming when Manu got hot to end the year and Parker started getting healthy. Utah got blown out at home versus Phoenix in a crucial game to end the year. The fact they have a 3-1 lead is shocking.

Spurs are better than the Mavs though. Not really an upset.

Nuggets don't have their coach. If they did, the Nuggets would be up 3-1.
