View Full Version : Is Jermaine O'Neal having the WORST playoff series in NBA history

Got this from another forum.

Specifically for a starting center that avg 30 or more minutes in the regular season?

Seriously, I've never seen a player come up so small and play so dreadful.

5-31 shooting, 16% from the field. From a starting center.

How is that EVEN possible. I knew Perkins was going to be a tough matchup for him(as he is probably the best man post defender in the NBA), and he was going to be somewhat neutralized going into the series.

But 16%? HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?

its because wade dominates the ball and they dont post him up.

Rebounds, blocks, defense? Can't just gauge on shooting percentage...

they've found him in the post a lot of times this series. Like s'mitch would say : "he's just not making shats!"

JO plays like a centre on D , but on offence he plays like a 4 taking a whole lot of mid rangs jump shots. when those shots arent falling you end up with a 16% shooting percentage. he isnt what he used to be on offence. in his prime he was a beast. now he should play closer to the rim on offence if you ask me but he still likes those jump shots ..

Quentin Richardson is equally as bad. He is the real actress, he does so well acting like he is a professional BBall player

Chronz makes a good point. The team doesnt run plays for him like the Pacers used to. In part because he is simply not as good/consistent as he used to be, and part because they have Wade as the first option and also have him dominate the ball.

Next season if O'Neal goes to a city like New York who doesnt have a center and needs one, or perhaps even OKC, he could revitilize his career. Its like in L.A., somenights when Kobe dominates, guys like Gasol and Odom and Bynum have a hard time getting good shots and go cold. After the game people say the other guys are cold, but are they cold? Or are they not getting regular shots? Its the same when wing guys dominate the ball, if Wade runs most of the plays and O'Neal doesnt get consistent shots, he cant get in a rhythm. Now O'Neal is what he was, even his rebounding numbers are inconsistent, so I wouldnt blame Wade. Its kind of like the chicken and egg thing: is he inconsistent because he doesnt get consistent shots, or does he not get consistent shots because he's inconsistent? I think its both, but Wade is a great player and seemed to balance the offence well on the title run with guys like Shaq, Haslem and Walker all getting shots, so I wouldnt put this on Wade. If O'Neal isnt getting regular shots, its because he doesnt hit them when he does, but the inconsistency is worse when his touches are inconsistent.

Considering all things... Heat vs Celtics is a horrible series.

The only reason the Heat got JO was for that Fat Expiring contract of his.

Perk is an underrated defender, I said it before the series began; he just can't score on Boston's centers.

its because wade dominates the ball and they dont post him up.

That's an argument similar to the one made for Beasley's lack of production.

If JO played like he did during the regular season this series would be 2-1 HEAT.

**** YOU JO!!!

As far as first round series go, I can remember wishing death up Shandon Anderson in 2004 against the Nets for his performance.

We actually do feed him a lot once the game begins, he just misses them all, Also, he's missing wide open J's. He gets his shots, he just sucks.

The pic says it all. Lowest FG% for a player in the shot clock era prior to taday's game.

He finished 1/3 in today's game, Raising his FG% 17.6 percent on 6/34 shooting in this series.

And the sad thing is that he is suppose to be the team's Centre.

Its too bad because he really looked well late in the season. Really thought he could have done real nice things for them this play-offs. Guess he was part of the reason why so many PSD posters chose the Heat as favourites of the Celts.

Yeah I feel bad, I always did like O'Neal. He was a very good player for awhile there. I hope he gets a ring before he retires.

It's pathetic, especially for a Center who primarily plays in the paint. I actually like Jermaine, but I'm disgusted

Swashcuff

the guy is making like 24 mil picking up like a 3rd of the Heat's payroll just to suck it up like he is doing. I like the dude but this kind of play is unacceptable. He might shoot better if he comes off the bench.

at least you've been watching lmao ;)

they get him the ball to start every single game in the post...perkins just outmuscles him and has him by a good 25 lbs of muscle in the lower body...

He just looks exhausted, week and drained of confidence or energy.
